This weekend is BBC radio1's big weekend so I've been watching that looking out for specific bands, all of them you could tell it was definitely them on the tracks apart from one. Panic! At the disco. I've liked panic for a while but hearing the lead singer live, his voice was unrecognizably deeper live than in studio and I really didn't like it the same.
That was my experience so I was wondering if you had any similar experiences?
Have you heard a band live and it wasn't all what you expected? Let me know!

I really like the band Relient K, but I feel like the wit in their songs wouldn't come across as well live.

There are quite a few bands I thought would sound terrible live but actually sounded really good, is there any live footage of them on youtube or anything?

I always liked the songs by "Evanescence" because they were so haunting and unique but then I heard her sing live and I was like...o.O Either she was having a really off day or all the pretty singing on the CD is made possible by tweaking. It's a shame. That's why I prefer most country singers, it seems they tend to be better live than a lot of other genres. I think, unless you are doing something obvious to make the song more interesting (computer sounding voice), the way you sound on the CD should come pretty darn close to your live singing voice!

Yeah, Amy Lee does some weird editing to her voice or something. Every time I've heard her sing live she's sounded horrible. I second the Killers as sucking live too. Hoobastank is another band that I would never pay to see live again. There was just no energy in their performance. I do however, listen to their recorded stuff quite a bit. Taking Back Sunday is another band who used to sound horrible live when they first started out but they've since gotten better. They could put on a heck of a live show but still sounded like crap. XD
I was also disappointed in Lady Gaga. She didn't even sing half the time and it was just bad. She does go all out and try to make it more than a concert but to me singing and actually hearing the vocals live is a big part of that. If I wanted to listen to the recorded CD, I would have just stayed at home and watched the performance on youtube or something.

I really wanted a ticket to R1BW, but it was not meant to be. ):
Anyway, it's not bands that I specifically like, but bands/artists that I know for a fact sound nothing alike from the live shows to album tracks.
Robbie Williams (awful live...I mean, seriously awfulf)
Black Eyed Peas (again, awful live)
Hayley Williams (she doesn't have a powerful enough voice to compete with the instruments live, acoustic she's good though)
Cee Lo Green (His voice is so deep live!)
One artist that is absolutely phenomenal live is Professor Green. You seriously cannot tell the difference between his tracks and his live performance. It is that good!

Rascal Flatts tends to suck ass live, and I think Selena Gomez is pretty atrocious as a live singer. I also agree with Raz: Black Eyed Peas are the WORST as a live band. None of them have enough breath to get through a single song and Fergie always sounds awful...as well as one of the guys. (I don't know names, but I know it's not Will.I.am)

Oh no Evanescence suck live? =( That is such a shame it was so amazing on the CD. Yeah I noticed Lady Gaga was barely singing herself and she seemed to have the mic a little too close to her mouth so you could hear all of her breathing clearly. Oh well. I liked her jazz thing but I might just like jazz in general....not sure don't really listen to it and should try it.

Were you close for tickets? I was in the near by section so there was a fair amount of tickets going to our area and my friend got 2 but that was it.
Yeah every live event I've seen black eyed peas were awful! However everyone seems unaware of this. I don't really like professor green to be honest but maybe I would like him more live.
