I'm now in my 2nd grad program and have had great instructors who do their best to provide feedback on assignments and several who haven't. I think some really hate confrontation, but most will discuss grades with students. Fortunately, most of that appears to be in the past. My current program has instructors who provide great feedback. @ Clair - do you have your graded assignments she says are missing?

Elmira Swift:
I do indeed. I sent her an email describing each piece that she said I'm missing, and she remembered them, so she's going to change the grade.

When I got divorced my name changed in the school system but not the blackboard system.
I had an "A" in my computer class on blackboard but when I checked with the school I had an "F."
I nearly pissed myself. Haha. I just emailed the professor with screen shots of the two grades.
It got changed but not before giving me a heart attack.

That happened to me once. I had a C in gym. I know, sounds impossible right? Well, that's what I thought, so I went to the teacher and it turned out she had put my grade in the computer wrong!

I think it's always a good idea to go to a teacher if you think you are undeserving of a grade. Good grades are good, you know?

And another good idea is to go check with your teacher before your grading period ends, to make sure the grade you have is the one you should have before they turn in grades. I always do that, and it has saved me from disaster many times. ((I get paid for my grades, 'cause I wouldn't get good ones otherwise. xP))

And I have a crazy teacher too... She's always running around forgetting stuff. It's a wonder she gets to school in the morning. Plus she has two schools that she goes to, alternating between the two every other day. So, she gets the schools and students mixed up all the time. It's really aggravating sometimes.

Yes. I got to a pretty elitist 6th form and because I'm on averageish getting a B grade I'm the lowest in the class...

However in the last exam we did for Chemistry I got a C grade and I really did walk out of that exam thinking I had gotten at least the B I need. I was actually gutted because I had done practice papers previously and was getting A/B grades.

*sigh* so now I'm taking 3 chemistry exams...one AS resit and the resit for the Jan exam and obviously this topics. I'll be honest I'm a little worried because I NEED the B grade to get into university.

Actually, some fear a student will physically harm them and that's why they avoid it at all costs. Some fear being sued or having a student make false accusations against them in retaliation -- and some aren't doing their jobs well and don't want to get exposed.
