Robyn couldn't help but smile a bit at his awkwardness. It was kind of endearing in a way. She couldn't help but like it.
"There's a small park," she replied after a moment of thought. "It's... not really used much anymore. I know a lot of families aren't able to find the time for things like going to the park, lately." In fact, she doubted that Ridley had ever been to the park. She wasn't even sure if he knew it was there. "I don't think I can leave the shop for that long, though," she added. "After the raid, I'm sure there are a lot of things that still need to be done..." She still needed to support herself, after all.
Glancing at the time, she turned towards the door again. "I need to go change and everything," she said. "I can't exactly work in my pajamas." It was starting to get later in the morning, so she needed to actually get around to opening the storefront. There was bound to be someone who needed something fixed, and Bear had a habit of 'accidentally' dropping Ridley off early so they boy could spend more time with her.

The man stared quietly at her in return, her smile seemed to be plastered in his mind, like a picture he wanted to take with him everywhere. Her suggestion of a small play park elicited a small nod from him,
"He'll have freedom to look around then." Kazan commented regarding the families who didn't have time, Ridley deserved a little more for his childhood after the horrors he must have suffered. Though he was also trying to erase his nightmares by seeing the boy in a better setting. When she mentioned the shop he nodded, she was probably just worried about money issues, he realized if she started making those guns she'd probably end up one of the richest people in town, what with resistance members and probably civilians wanting to buy them for protection.
But still.. Side-arms and hand-weaponry wouldn't cut it forever. The Varstradt Empire still had its Steel Battalions and its artillery. Matching those in combat would be difficult for most people lower than a mage. His thoughts fell to magic users once more, as he went about getting his own clothes, but he waited for Robyn to go before he changed fully.
Magic users.. If they used weapons like the Varstradt signature hand-gun, they could be lethal to contend with, however they'd still need to work on accuracy if they hoped to survive.. Unless.. Mages could control their magic more precisely, and it took precision to activate the crystal in the gun.. He thought about this quietly, realized he never often looked at the magical energy he produced when he fired the handgun, just the result..
He sat down on the couch, quietly holding up his left hand as though holding a gun and imagined the weapon in his hand, then he followed the process in his mind, calming his thoughts and drawing forward the energy from within, concentrating it in his hand and then.. A light.. Sure he'd done something similar in his training days, but he'd never really appreciated it until now.
The small whisp of energy in his palm grew until it was more like a marble, floating out to the point where in the gun the crystal would normally be, and it hovered there, silent, but glimmering, bathing the dim room in a candle-light glow.
But how much more could he do? He'd been fighting and using his gun for so long he never truly understood his capacity, and he found the more energy he released forward, the larger the ball of energy became, bathing the room in further light.
He laughed suddenly, staring at the now tennis ball sized light and grasped it, extinguishing it just like a flame,
A Gun-mage.. he thought to himself, grinning oddly, almost like a child with a new toy, If I were to call myself anything.. Gun-mage seems about right..

Robyn came back downstairs, dressed and ready for the day, just as Kazan stopped playing around with the light. She'd had a bit of an idea while she was dressing, and she wanted to run it by him. She wanted his opinion on it before she got distracted by her work and forgot to ask again.
"What's with you?" she asked teasingly as she walked back into the room. She had her usual tool belt sitting on her hips, and she was wearing a slightly newer pair of work pants with her usual plain shirt. She wasn't really into 'dressing up' at all, and she really didn't own anything nicer than her work clothes, anyways. It wasn't as if she was going anywhere fancy any time soon, and she never had any reason to dress up to impress anyone. She ignored the little voice in her head that whispered that it might be worth it to dress a bit nicer for Kazan. There was no reason for her to be thinking such thoughts. She was sure he just thought of her as a friend, if that. Why should she start acting like a girl now?
"Hey, listen, I just had an idea. I can make mechanical things do pretty much whatever I want, once I can get close enough to touch it, and I've definitely made them fall apart before, like the truck. But I've never tried to make things fall apart from a distance." It had occurred to her that maybe she could make guns fall apart without having to get too close to the person holding the gun. "It's something that could be useful someday. What do you think?" She looked at him. She really wanted to know what he thought about the idea, and whether or not he was following her train of thought.

"I was just thinking about something.. Odd..?" Kazan replied, he supposed it was odd to assign himself a classification like that, but he kept mostly quiet about it, it was something to store in the back of his mind. If he was back in Varstradt he would have proposed a 'Gun-Mage Corps', a specialized company of soldiers all trained in the use of magic crystals, if anyone showed any aptitude for crystals they could be hired in.. But he supposed he'd think of that in the future.
His eyes turned to Robyn as she spoke of her ability then questioned what she could do with it. Kazan thought about it for a moment but then looked away slightly,
"You need to consider range and power. If you can reach a target one hundred meters away. Can you do more than one at a time? How about two hundred meters?" He shrugged a little, "It would take practice if you haven't tried it," Kazan looked over at her again and smiled, "You should give it a try any way. You never know until you try."
He stood up after a while, adjusting his shirt and leaning back slightly, a hand on his back as his spine popped in a couple of places. Kazan was back in relative fighting form or so he considered, a half turn to the left or right and it loosened him up well enough,
"At least that's the theory I heard when we were taught to study magic and its weaknesses, combat magic is primarily a ranged technique, but the further a target is the more focus and power it might need, the more powerful a mage; the further they can reach without trouble, same as if they were trying to do a wide range attack, they need to put out more power." He looked at his left hand for a moment, "I was thinking of something else myself.. But.. Nevermind.. I need to think about it some more."

"But it's a feasible idea?" Robyn pressed. She looked around the room quickly. "Hang on, let me find something I can put back together pretty quickly..." Her gaze turned on an old clock. It was broken, and she hadn't been able to fix it yet. Every time she tried, it would stop again, and she didn't have the right parts to really keep it fixed. "Perfect." Going over to it, she picked it up and set it in the middle of the floor. "Let's see if this works..."
Taking a deep breath, she carefully reached out with her magic. She could feel every little piece of the broken clock, including where it was broken and what exactly wasn't working properly. After a moment of poking around, she carefully loosened all of the pieces. The clock shuddered for a second, and then collapsed, falling apart on the floor. She grinned. "It worked!" She looked at Kazan. "It took longer than I thought it would, but it worked!" Already, she was thinking about whether or not she could find a way to keep practicing, to see if she could take things apart like that even faster.

"Well done. While you were attempting to do that; any Varstradt soldier at that range could have shot you cleanly in the head before you broke their gun." Kazan stated rather mildly. It was a hard truth but she'd done it far too slowly in Kazan's opinion. Something like this needed speed and precision to match a gun or it would lose out every time, "Look, lets do this later." He started, pointing over a this abandoned weapon, "I'll aim my handgun at you, empty clip, no crystal, if I manage to pull the trigger before you break it, you lose, and we'll do it again and again until you can do it before I can fire." He used the word fire loosely, simply to make it an imaginary scenario, "If anything your preexisting knowledge of the gun should make disabling the firing mechanism simple. Win; and I'll give you something special." He didn't reveal the something special yet, partly because he wasn't entirely sure what he would give her.. He could get her some kind of present he guessed.. It would have to wait till it came to that.
Kazan smiled a little at the proposed idea, however looked at the doorway to the shop area. He was actually rather eager to get out for once, go help Bear, take Ridley off his hands, a nice quiet day for a little relaxation between himself, Robyn and the boy.
He looked over at the girl with a slight grin,
"Come on, lets go. It will be fun to take Ridley to the park today." He reached behind himself for amoment to grab the coinpurse he'd been saving in. A large share of it he gave to Robyn outright, he'd gotten extra rewards helping to rebuild the town, and working for Bear had the benefits of filling orders at times. They could get bonuses faster because the two of them were fast workers, though he knew Bear was a lot more skilled than his lumbering appearance suggested. He doubted he could fashion steel as finely as Bear was some-how able to.
It made him think again, but he knew if he did that too much he'd be questioning himself again..

Robyn was slight offended that Kazan thought she was so unskilled. Of course she knew she was too slow with it, but really, she only tried once. It would take practice. Kneeling down, she touched a couple pieces of the clock. Carefully, she started to gather up all the pieces. If nothing else, she could put it back together later. It would be a good chance to see if she could make it put itself back together, like she'd made it fall apart.
"We'll have to see about that later," she agreed as she went to put the pieces of the clock into the workshop. "Bear is probably already in the forge, so we should probably go and see about picking up Ridley for the day." They could probably go out to the park for a little while without any problems. She could leave a note on the storefront in case anyone came looking for her. "You have to admit, though... It could be useful one day, if I can make it work right. I hadn't even thought about it before today."
While she waited for Kazan to get ready to go, she checked over the tools on her toolbelt. A few of them were in need of repair, so she would ask Bear about it when they got to the forge. She hated having to ask him to make her new tools, but there was nothing she could do about it when they wore out too far.

Kazan had already laced his boots up and in the current climate he didn't really imagine he needed much more than a shirt and his slacks, so he didn't bother with much else. Adjusting the clothes a little he eventually stepped up next to Robyn, seeing her checking her tools, but he chuckled a little,
"Yes.. It would definitely be useful.. Against people who rely on technology, the ability to break down any technology, guns, tanks, anything like that, with but a mere thought is dangerous." Kazan confirmed, though he wondered, if she was this good with technology, what else could she do? A magical ability geared towards technology could produce some powerful results. Almost terrifying in some ways..
The man waited until Robyn unlocked the door before stepping out into the crisp morning air. He enjoyed his walks about the town and the local area. He'd noticed they were surprisingly close to the north and north-eastern walls of the town. The Varstradt had circled around from the north-east to the west of the town before entering into it.. The generals called it an Artful approach.. Kazan simply considered it putting the lives of soldiers at risk. While a pincer attack was favourable, if mistimed it could cause them some serious problems.
Kazan had already started walking in the direction of Bears smithy, further south of the walls, he'd deduced, considering it was in the opposite direction. He wondered, though, if Varstradt really wanted this town, why hadn't it just taken it over yet..? All these strange approaches.. Trying to convince the shopkeepers to work for them, trying to get the technosage, hiring a grocer as a spy..
Something didn't feel right..

Once she was sure her tools were in order, she left the house with Kazan. The lock on the door was one of her keyless locks, but she was so used to locking and unlocking it by now that it barely took a thought. It was the most secure lock in the town, since it took a technosage to open the lock and Robyn herself was the only one. The walk to the forge wasn't all that long, but Robyn enjoyed it. It wasn't hot out, which was uncharacteristic for the time of year, but the pleasantly cool air was nice. Robyn noticed Kazan looking around the town, and nudged him a bit.
"See anything interesting?" she asked. She didn't notice anything unusual, but perhaps Kazan saw something she didn't. He probably knew to look for different things. She didn't stop walking, though. There was nothing immediately pressing that needed her attention, so she kept going towards the forge.
She could hear Bear working in the forge before she even got inside. The sound of the hammer on the anvil was unmistakable. During a lull in the noise, she knocked on the door of the forge.

Kazan was certainly a little off his game and it was clear to tell, she was right that he saw somehting interesting, he just wasn't sure he realized it yet. The pieces hadn't fit together yet, the clues stared him in the face every time he walked down the street. Three houses down, the bakers, building across the street, two doors down, bookshop, two down, apothecary.
He caught glimpses of each one and didn't pay them any mind, even as his gaze turned up tot he sky, lazy eyes not really caring for the slowly gathering clouds.. His interest barely kept by them, no alarm raised his suspicion.. He didn't notice anything peculiar yet.. Except that perhaps the day wouldn't be as sunny as he'd hoped for Ridley's first day out.
Her question made him snap to reality and he looked at Robyn almost quizzically, before he realized he was staring at her like a complete dope and shook his head roughly,
"N-no, sorry.. I guess I'm not with it this morning.." He responded, staring at the smithy and listening to the dull, well-timed clangs.. One could almost dance to the beat. But the sound was like thunder, another to stir the weak-hearted into a fright.
It stopped abruptly when the door was knocked and it wasn't long before heavy footsteps on the other side marked Bear finding his way to the door and hauling it open,
"Well 'ello there you two! Yer a right bit early, eh? Ridley's finishin' his breakfest, you two'll look after'm today, eh?" Bear asked, though it was mostly rhetorical. Kazan smiled and nodded in response,
"I did say we could do that for you Bear, that is if you trust us to," He replied, although he said US, it was clearly more a case of himself, Bear simply laughed the same old haughty laugh he always gave,
"Aye, I trust ya, lad." Bear chuckled, placing a single arm behind the both to nudge them on into the forge and past it to the house section. However it was important to note that on one of the anvils laid a half completed but surprisingly beautiful sword, the handle shone a bright silver, the guard inlaid with a burning ember ruby, although the blade of the weapon was incomplete and still quite hot. It was actually an unusual design for Bear, carefully carved and engraved embellishments on the hilt made it look almost like a holy cross.
Ridley awaited them in the kitchen, sat on a char with several steps that let him rise to the enormous height of the table, much too high for even an adolescent to reach properly, and frankly a feat of craftsmanship worthy of the large man. Accommodating to ones needs was important when you were unlike others physically.

Robyn paused to look at the sword. It was pretty, and something about the ruby embedded in the guard seemed almost hypnotic. It unnerved her a little, though. A sword wasn't something she was familiar with. Swords were well outside of her area of expertise, and her magic couldn't get into them and take them apart like it could with guns and other such mechanical things. She kept moving into the house when Bear nudged her along. She didn't ask about the sword, though. She figured it was a commission for someone important.
Walking into the kitchen, she grinned and immediately sat down next to Ridley.
"Morning, kiddo," she greeted him. The table and chairs were all very high, but that was normal to Robyn by now. "Ready to spend the day with us?" She smiled at him. "Oh! I made that snake toy. I think I've worked all the kinks out of it, but I need someone to test it out for me..."

Kazan had actually seen the weapon in bits and pieces before today, he was rather surprised at how delicately it had been put together, Bear was amazingly talented when it came to his weapons, and art was no trouble for him, especially not with how that weapon looked. He didn't questioned it though, following Robyn through to where Ridley was. The boy looked up at the two with a slight grin, waving an arm while he sat there, his bowl mostly emptied.
He was about to take another bite when Robyn mentioned the new toy was fixed up and ready for testing, it made him stop short as he looked over at her, mouth still opened, but he flapped it closed, dropped the spoon in the bowl with a wet clatter and held up both hands in front of him, clenched close to himself,
"Really? I.. I can do it...!" He volunteered quite readily, though still a little meekly. The clanging of Bear working on the sword could be heard again as the smith took steel to fire, each strike sending off a shower of sparks. He would stop occasionally to raise the extremely hot metal and inspect it closely, no fear at all for his mustache, it was as resilient as him.
Kazan looked at the boy with a smile, he seemed much happier in real life and that certainly drowned that bad thought out.. Or did it elicit another..? He saw the image in his head and he wished it would go away. The soldier motionined to the boy gently,
"Finish your breakfast and lets go. We're going to the park." Kazan stated casually, but this brought even more light to Ridley's eyes,
"Th-the park..?!" He asked with a slight gasp, childlike wonder on his face. Papa Bear normally didn't have a great deal of time to take him out, so he was more than happy to get to go out. He liked being with Robyn and Mr. Kazan wasn't a bad guy, he felt safe around them both. He'd probably never stuffed his face so fast in his whole life as he ladled the last bits hastily and swallowed them, though ended up having a little bit of a coughing fit.
Kazan actually had to fight off a bit of a worried look, keeping his hands firmly planted on his sides as he waited to see if the boy was alright. And he was, but he found he had to cough a little more and clear his throat till he was fine, a few tears rolling form his eyes, typical really of some-one who almost choked on a little something. He simply grinned afterward, rubbing his eyes clear of the water.
Kazan smirked too, nodding his head in the direction of the exit,
"Come on you two, lets move, Bear will probably want to finish his work in peace."

Robyn grinned. It was always good to see Ridley opening up a little. He was far too shy for a child, although she knew exactly why. Hopping down from the chair, she dug around in one of the pouches on her tool belt for a moment. She knew exactly where the toy snake was, of course, but she wanted to draw out the suspense for Ridley for a minute or two. Finally, she pulled out the toy. The segments were all made of different metals, so none of them actually matched, but she didn't think the boy would mind.
"What do you think?" she asked him. She had no problem letting Ridley feel like he was in charge of her making the toy. "Think it looks ready for testing?" She gestured for him to get down from the table. "There should be plenty of room at the park for you to test it however you like." She grinned. "I made it different than the bird and the mouse. I think you'll like it." She reached over, offering her hand for him to take. She knew that he was a shy child, and Bear very rarely had the time to take him out anywhere, so Robyn knew that Ridley might be even more shy once they got outside. She grinned and leaned down to whisper in his ear.
"I think you should thank Kazan," she whispered. "It was his idea to go to the park."

Ridley had to lean forward, anxious to see what she'd bring out until the snake was shown. If Robyn made it, he was confident it would be great, the boy turned in his seat, gripping the sides to climb down step-by-step almost as if the entire seat was more like a ladder. The boy reached out, grasping Robyns hand as much as his smaller fingers could manage, a slight smile on his face, he was glad that he could go out, but he worried if Papa Bear would be all right on his own.
When Robyn leaned down to whisper to him, Ridley stared up at her quietly, then over at Mr. Kazan. Ridley had always wondered about him. He seemed different to other people, besides Papa Bear he looked strong, he could swing those hammers that Papa Bear used almost as easily, and he spoke just a bit different, funny almost. He'd never been too sure but no-one seemed to mind that man. Robyn lived with him too, right..? She must trust him, so he supposed it was alright if he did too, after all he came up with the idea of the park too, like Robyn said.
Ridley broke his hands grip from Robyn and caught up to a rather unaware Kazan whom had been looking towards the door. The boy raised both his hands high to grip around Kazan's handing right hand. The man was a little startled, looking down at the boy whom grinned back up at him.
There was an eerie still as the man seemed almost frozen, Ridley's face changing a little, perhaps confused. Kazan really didn't act normal, but after a moment Kazan smiled, again Ridley did the same before the two of them looked back at Robyn. Kazan had been so surprised himself because he'd never expected anything like it..
The boy really was such a cute child, he couldn't imagine harm coming to the boy, but perhaps it was simply the strange affection he'd gotten for these few people. His grip on Ridley's hand tightened only slightly, as he nodded his head towards the door,
"We can't hang about here all day you two, lets go." He stated, leading the boy out ahead of Robyn and towards the park.

Robyn nodded and hurried to catch up to Kazan and Ridley. She was a little surprised that Ridley had taken to Kazan so quickly. Ridley was usually so shy, but maybe he had gotten used to Kazan since the man worked with Bear in the forge. It seemed to be a likely explanation. She walked next to them as they headed towards the park. It was a nice day out, ideal for being outside, and this pleased Robyn. The nice weather made it more likely that Ridley would play and enjoy himself like a child should.
The walk was fairly short, and the park was almost empty. There were only a few other adults there with their children, most of whom Robyn recognized from around town. They waved at her, and she waved back to them. They probably recognized Ridley, as well, since Bear was so well-known in town. Everyone knew that Bear had taken the boy in.
"This seems as good a spot as any," Robyn said, sitting down on a swing and swaying back and forth on it a bit. She reached into her toolbelt again and brought out the toy snake, handing it to Ridley. "Have fun with it, and make sure to tell me if it needs any work, okay?" She was pretty sure she worked out all the bugs, but if it did need a bit of tweaking, she had her tools with her.

Ridley happily took the toy when it was offered, although he didn't immediately play with it, instead he turned it over a few times, looking at it from various angles with a smile on his face, it was small, but it was there, every little flaw in the different metal segments seemed to give it character, plus the way it wiggled before it was even running provided a strange sort of amusement for Ridley, it almost didn't even need clockworks in it as he kept it off the sandy area of the swing set and instead got on his hands and knees on the grass, guiding it through the greenery as though it were a real snake.
He doubted it would manage well on its own, mostly because clockworks weren't very strong, at least not toy ones, they weren't exactly designed with rough terrain in mind, he'd had his mouse out on grass once and it refused to budge any, not that he minded entirely.
Kazan didn't join Robyn on the swing set, or follow Ridley, though he watched the boy, keeping an eagle eye on the young lad as he played. The boy didn't seem willing to go too far, because his comfort zone was closer to Robyn and Kazan. The man thought about it a little, looking at where the parents were and the other kids.
After a moment he picked a spot on the grass, closer to the kids and the parents, but still not too far away, lowered himself to the ground and lay back, crossing one leg over a knee on the slight sloped grass, hands behind his head as he looked up to the clouds. There were quite a few, but the sun could be seen peeking through in great strobes of light. The way they moved, however, suggested more cloud cover was coming soon, thicker, less fluffy-looking clouds could be seen gathering in the distance.
Kazan could hear Ridley getting closer to his position until the boy was to his right by a meter or so, he didn't move, but watched, waiting until Ridley was distracted. With a slight shift of his body he looked back to Robyn and used a hand to motion her over, inviting her to be next to him. He didn't really know if he understood yet what he was attempting to do, being closer tot he other kids and adults to chance Ridley socialising a little, but he also would have liked if Robyn was nearby too. Ridley wasn't the only one that felt a little awkward near others.

Robyn got up from the swings and made her way over to Kazan as the two started to make their way a little further off. Flopping down on the grass next to him, she sprawled out a bit and relaxed. It was a nice day, and the clouds were still far off, yet. If it was going to rain or anything, it wouldn't be for a while. Propping herself up on the grass, she watched Ridley play.
"I'm glad he's having fun," she commented. "I think this day out is good for him. Bear's been in the forge so much lately that I was starting to get worried that Ridley might need some attention from someone else for a little while." She glanced at Kazan and grinned. "The day out is probably good for you, too. You know, people in town are starting to recognize you. They ask sometimes when they come by the shop how you're doing." And it was true. Many times, she would just smile and tell people that Kazan was at the smithy if anyone was curious. She felt no shame in sending people to the forge; she knew that Bear probably did the same if people went to him with things that were better fixed by a mechanic. It was how the town worked; there was no competition between businesses because everyone helped one another.

Kazan simply breathed in and huffed softly, apparently quite relaxed in his place as he stared lazily up at the clouds, it was an oddly beautiful sight, made him think back to previous quieter days back in Varstradt. But with all his time spent here he found it a little difficult to discern the details, having had to struggle to remember and notice as much as possible. So absent-minded now was he that he'd forgotten he still wore his tags, he'd picked them up with his clothing and slipped it under his shirt, but no-one really recognized the shape under the shirt. A memento of home, that's what it was to him right now.
He looked over at Ridley for a moment, noticing he'd edged closer tot he other kids, but didn't quite get near enough, instead played by himself still. He'd have difficulty befriending other kids like that, but he was at least closer to them. His gaze turned over to Robyn then,
"Yeah.. Sometimes when I help with the reconstruction the guys want me to join them for a drink after, but I think against it and carry on home," He looked up again, shrugging a little to himself, "I don't know. Maybe I'm just apprehensive like Ridley, I dont think I belong, but.." He sighed again, "I like it here.. I like Bear, Ridley, the shop-owners, the workers." He chuckled to himself a bit then looked aside to Robyn, grinning a little,
"And I like you the most." He commented, sitting up after a while rolling his shoulder,
"Now tell me if you can do something else. You broke apart the clock before, which means you can reach that snake, right? Think you can make it wind up from here and run towards the other kids in that play area?"

Robyn was also watching as Ridley played by himself, rather than going over to try to make friends. She glanced over as Kazan made his suggestion. It wasn't a half-bad idea, really, and it shouldn't be to hard to do. Ridley had moved over closer to the area without sand or grass, so the toy would have very little trouble going.
"I can try," she said. Carefully, she reached out with her magic. She could feel traces of metal all over the place, but she narrowed her focus in on the little toy snake that Ridley was playing with. Winding the springs inside, she made the snake slip from Ridley's grasp. It slithered smoothly over to where a couple of the other children were playing. The toy skittered over a patch of sand, but otherwise worked exactly as Robyn had intended. She was pleased to see that it worked so well. She pulled her magic back in once the toy started moving, so that nobody else would be able to sense it. She didn't know how many people in town were sensitive to magic, but she didn't want to take the chance.
"So... you really like me?" she asked after a moment, looking back at Kazan. She figured that at most, he'd just be glad to have a place to stay. She didn't think he'd actually, well... like being around her.

Ridley jumped with surprise as the toy slipped from his fingers, no less a real snake given the compounds that composed itrs mostly metallic body. He tried desperately, pouncing along the grass like an oversized rabbit, unaware that some of the other kids had stopped entirely to watch the quiet, shy boy they occasionally saw on his own scampering towards them while grasping at the dirt.
When a metal snake popped out into the open and came to a standstill before Ridley got his hands on it again, the other kids were taken aback, at first believing it to be real until they saw the metal body and how still it was in his hands. Ridley was them promptly run over by a girl who wasn't looking where she was going, the two falling into a sprawling mess.
The girl was a tomboyish sort, hair ruffled and dark, dungarees with a shirt underneath and boots, a plaster pressed across the bridge of her noise. She could clearly be seen getting up and rubbing her head a little painfully before wanting to chide the careless boy, but an exchange could be seen between the two. The more frightened and shy, nervous Ridley winning over the utterly confused girl. She helped him up after a moment.
Kazan grinned at the scene, it seemed things were going as planned, though he hadn't intended the poor boy to be run over, it still worked. They couldn't really hear what the kids were saying at their distance, but things sounded good at least. Some sounds of amazement and surprise as the other kids got closer to see the metal snake Ridley was clutching into.
The man chuckled a little when Ridley pointed over in their direction, or more, in Robyn's direction, no doubt telling them that she made them for him. Aaah, there we go, two birds with one stone. Kazan looked aside to Robyn with a slight smile,
"Yeah.." He replied simply, looking up for a moment and sighing again, eyes drooping a little, "You're.. Special.. Not just ordinary.." He tried to explain in a less than convinced way, "Hm.. I dont know.. I don't know how to put it, you just.. Everything seems better with you nearby.. Oh, here we go." Kazan grinned to himself.
In the time he'd taken to explain his unusual feeling, some of the children were running tot heir parents, the more demanding ones at least, to tell them about the amazing mechanical toy. So used to and fed up with wooden and ragdoll toys, the idea of these harder to break, moving toys, well frankly it was bound to pick up fast, Kazan only chuckled a little,
"You're about to get several orders, I think.." Kazan commented absent mindedly. And just as he'd predicted, certain doting parents were standing and a couple already brusquely walking over, adjusting their money purses. Kazan calmly relaxed, eyes closed and body visibly at ease. It would probably be a rather long afternoon.

Robyn looked like the proverbial 'deer in the headlights' for a moment. When the did the little trick with her magic, she hadn't been expecting to suddenly get commissions! She looked over at Kazan, and saw the slightly smug look on his face.
"You planned this," she accused. "I don't know how, but you knew that would happen." Getting up from the grass, she brushed herself off and braced herself for the onslaught of commissions. Never had she been so glad that she kept a pocket notebook and pencil in her tool belt. As the parents all started asking for toys for their kids, she dutifully wrote down names and orders, all the while trying to work out fair prices in her head. It wasn't fair to charge a lot for the toys, since she knew a lot of the parents didn't have much to spend in the first place, but she still wanted to make sure she could get supplies to make more toys. Especially if the parents all started to tell their friends about her, which she suspected might happen.
Every so often, Robyn would glance at Kazan again. She wasn't sure how he knew that she would get commissions, but somehow he did. She wasn't exactly complaining, of course, money was money, but she hadn't been expecting it.

"Well.. I couldn't have been entirely sure of the outcome.." Kazan stated, before she'd gotten up, "Whether Ridley told or not was beyond me, same as the children's reaction, and the parents.." Kazan still looked a little too smug though, he had expected it to be an outcome though, "Truthfully I only planned so far as Ridley interacting with the other children.. The rest was chaos at play." He remarked just as the parents had homed in on poor Robyn. He mused for a while at just how Robyn's genius could easily have been a best seller over Varstradt. Give her a factory and enough parts and Robyn could easily be as rich as the emperor.
Of course he realized she probably had no interest in that kind of money, it was still an interesting thought. Truthfully he'd seen one or two mechanical toys in the past, but none with the detail of Robyn's nor that operated just as well as hers. He could imagine if Varstradt learned of it there would be some rather furious folks who couldn't dare to believe that any country outclassed them in some form of technology.
He opened one eye to stare past the legs of the parents to see Ridley sitting on another pair of swings further down with the tomboy of a girl. She hadn't rushed off to her parents like the others, those few who stayed were either too shy to ask their own parents, understanding their money issues, not as interested or amazed, or simply hadn't paid much attention. As for the girl, she seemed to be talking animatedly to the red-haired boy, whose responses remained meeker looking, more quiet, with laughter coming from the girl.
Ridley had a friend. Kazan smiled to himself and closed his eye again, oblivious to the chattering parents but keeping an ear out for Robyn. He wasn't abandoning her to the cruel fate of dealing with the parents, if she needed help, he was right there, but as Robyn was the main attraction he was fine with laying quietly and relaxing as though this were an everyday thing, it actually forced the parents to wait on the opposite side for fear of disturbing the rather at-peace soldier.
What mattered to Kazan mostly was that the boy had this time to play and make friends, even if it did take till the afternoon. The man could probably catch up on a little shuteye, afterall, working with bear meant early mornings and a good hard days work. Add to that some daily exercise to get in fighting form and Kazan was easily lights out ready for the next day. It would be nice to have some strength reserved for the night.

Once the flurry of people had ebbed a bit, Robyn sat back down and went over her new orders. There were at least a dozen of them, since every one of the parents had ordered more than one toy. Turning to a new page in her little notebook, she started a few preliminary sketches. She was going to have to ask Bear if he could make a few of the parts she needed special... There were some pieces that she just couldn't make herself, even with the machining tools in the workshop. She sketched them for a while, losing track of time as she did so. Hey, if she was going to be paid for it, she wanted it to be worth the money.
Once she had a few sketches, she nudged Kazan.
"Opinion?" she asked, showing him the notebook. The sketches were for a few different things: a hopping bird, a couple of mice, a frog. There was even another snake down the side of one page. One parent had even asked for a turtle, which Robyn was going to have to fiddle with for a while to figure out how to make it work. Now that she had the concept sketches, though, she couldn't do any more until she could start working with parts. "I know a few of these casings and parts need to be done especially for this project, so I may ask Bear if he can help."

Kazan had successfully manage to snooze away the hours, with no major emergency in the park, no work to do and Robyn completely occupied, he actually felt eased enough to drift off. Having her nearby made the sleeping strangely easier. He wasn't even sure if he'd had a bad dream or not, his eyes fluttering open slowly when she nudged him, disturbing him from the light slumber. He looked at her for a moment, the notebook caught his attention since it was practically right in front of him so he reached over and missed entirely, finding himself flat on the grass.
Having clearly misjudged how slowly he was waking up he pushed himself into a sitting position, yawned a bit then rubbed one eye as his other hand took the notebook a little more gracefully, flipping through the pages one by one, a light seeming to fire up in his eyes as though the inspiration of her work was actually doing wonders for his numb brain. Though he then smiled and handed them back to her with a nod,
"I think you can do it. A lot of these are specialist to you only, though, so at a later point you'll want to think of upping the price. If they come too cheap then everyone will want the complex ones and that will cause a greater work to profit ratio. If you take some of the easier ones to a patenting office you would receive royalties for everything based on your work." He stopped for amoment in his explanation, then looked at her a little dully,
"You.. Do have patenting offices in Lastdvell right..?" He asked, never too sure entirely what they did and didn't have.
With so many mechanics and engineers and inventors in Varstradt, there were many ideas and creations being patented all the time so people couldn't steel anything, but sometimes it still happened..
His gaze went past her for a moment to spot Ridley, the girl and the others still playing together. Ridley had returned the snake to Robyn's side while Kazan slept so he could actually go play with the others without fear of breaking the toy. For Ridley to abandon his toy for actual playtimes was definitely a jump forward. However the kids seemed ot come to an abrujpt halt as Ridley looked up at the sky. At first he thought it was just a clever joke on the boys part, but then Kazan looked up at the sky.
Those clouds weren't there before, and certainly not so thick.. Had they really passed so much time..? A strangely shaped wreath of white remained int he clouds and for a moment Kazan felt as though the shape looked familiar, a heart-shaped halo of white encircled by the dark grey clouds,
"Looks like rain's coming soon, we can make it past the market and home before it begins chucking I think.." Kazan stated, handing back the notepad to Robyn and standing, dusting himself off,
"Hey Ridley!" He called, waving one arm in the air, easily catching the boys attention, "Time to go, laddy!" Kazan stopped, one eyes lower lid raising slightly as he stared at Robyn as the boy came running back as quickly as his smaller legs could carry him, "Did I just say laddy..? I've been hanging around Bear too long I think.."

"I don't know if there are patenting offices," Robyn replied. "Even if there are, I don't know where they are, or the first thing about them." She'd heard of patents before, but didn't really know how they applied to her. All she really cared about was getting her projects done. "I don't think I want to up the price of the toys yet," she added. "I mean, I don't know if I'm going to get any more commissions like this. If I charge too much, nobody is going to want to buy them to begin with." Taking her notebook back, she put it and the pencil away in her tool belt and stood up. When she realized that the toy snake was still sitting at her feet, she knelt down to pick it up. She would hold on to it until she could give it back to Ridley. She understood what it meant that he wasn't playing with it, and she was glad that he'd found new friends.
"Come on, Ridley," she called. "We should head back before it rains!" She stretched a little as she waited for the boy to come back. When he got back, she grinned and handed him the toy snake. "Don't forget this, alright? I doubt you want it to get lost or anything."
