I'm tired of finding bugs in my organic/homegrown foods. I've had to throw away so much fruit and vegetables because I'm too afraid of salvaging it after finding insects inside.

I just found a lady bug living in my bag of spinach from Whole Foods after washing it and throwing it into the blender for a smoothie. It had been living there for several days, since I had not opened the bag. Poor thing. I was still too afraid to eat the spinach.

The grossest thing I've found were these ear-wig looking bugs inside of a persimmon from someone's garden...crawling out after I bit into it. It was so horrifying, and I was too afraid to eat any more of the persimmons.

Does this happen to anyone else? :(

oh my gosh, YES, it happens to me all the time. :gonk:
The last time I went shopping with my mom, we went and picked some broccoli from this organic vegetable store. So, I started to cook it later, and they really looked fine. But when I put them on everyone's plates, there were maggots all over the place... dead of course from the heat but.... it meant that they had chomped on my broccoli... and that they were bad... and just.... ewwww... TwT I'm terrified of eating broccoli now (not that I really like them before actually xD. they taste bitter to me... >w<)

Another time, my friend and I went apple-picking in a nearby orchard, and when we took the apples home and washed them and cut them into pieces, there were these little bugs where the seeds should be... needless to say, we both freaked out badly... I almost jumped into his arms xDDDD.

*sigh* it happens all the time... I'm like.. afraid of eating...

Eeecchh. Your stories gives me shivers to think about it, too. Especially the maggots. )x

I want to eat a healthy, organic diet, but it's not worth it if I have to keep throwing the food away because of the bugs.

^^" Sorry... *pats*

I'd really like to stick to my organic diet too... it's healthy and all that, but I agree with you -- It's not worth it if the food always has to be thrown away.
Organic and non-organic foods both have their positives and negatives....
Organic = no pesticides/herbicides/etc
Non-organic = super-duper use of pesticides...

but then...
Non-organic = no bugs
=w="

It's ridiculous...
I'd switch to eating non-organic foods if I really had to, but that scares me just as much because I had a biotechnology class in school this past year and.. well.... we learned about all the gunk that plants are exposed to... *sob* TwT

Yes, it's sort of a lose-lose situation unless you can handle dealing with the bugs. Either way has its downfalls.

I once found this comparison article, saying what was okay (or even better) to eat non-organic, and what was better to eat strictly organic. I'll try to find it again.

I guess that's why they say organic foods cost more o.o cause it takes 3-4 to get 1 good one...

I tried getting organic apples once... but there was a worm in every single one

I think you have a very good point about the cost of organic food... :/

Being healthier sure has a big price tag. :-(

I have however, bought from farms at the farmer's market who sell produce that use more gentle pesticides, so they're not organic, but don't genetically modify the plants. I'm just going to start buying as much as I can at the market.

ehhh... everything in my area is heavily doused with chemicals and what-not, so it's hard to find anything that's organic, or just slightly sprinkled with pesticides....

Even then, if those produce that are treated with less chemicals are sold, it still makes me worry... There's all kinds of pesticides and bad stuff like that, and my constant fear is that we're eating something that has chemical residue inside the edible parts... =w="
And it's not paranoia... *blames biotech class for fears* TwT

I haven't gotten any bugs on my store bought all natural fruits and veggis, but I HAVE had to pull bugs off of may garden grown stuff. Potato bugs mostly...they do this explodeing thing when you squish them..... They are like really fleshy pillbugs, but they're red....But, those are my only food/bug problem :P

I don't usually eat organic fruits and veggies, but when I get stuff from the farmers market or a farmers basket thing we do here, I often find bugs in the bottom of bags or crates.
I told my ex-boyfriend that if I could, I would kill every bug in the world. I don't care if they're cute. I flippin HATE bugs.

LoveAria: Y'know, if you did that, we'd all die too, as well as most of the plants in the world. Plants need bugs to procreat, ad starting at the bottom of the food chain, bug sustain all out lives!

Shotacon: You're right.
But that doesn't change the fact that I hate them with every fiber of my being.

xD bugs are disgusting, I'm sure we can all agree on that ^^"
It'd just be nice if we could eat healthy things and NOT find these gross little creatures everywhere... =w=

I like arachnids more then bugs, but over all, I don't find the disgussting. The only ones I am vehimently against, are the parasites, like ticks and lice. *Shudder* Hate the little bloodsuckers.... Love spiders though, ans scorpions...And mothes and beetle! Love'em!

I think spiders and scorpions are awesome, too - but don't get them anywhere near me. I love moths, butterflies, and lady bugs. Those are the only bugs I will go out of my way to save. Snails and slugs are cute sometimes, but a pain in my rear when they're in the garden!!

Bugs are part of life. C'est la vie.

Anyone else like the shiny black and multi colored beetles? I think the different colors/variations are awesome!

I'm not too fond of beetles, but yes, I think the colors and patterns are really neat!

I'm actually really paranoid about biting into food sometime and finding bugs. I don't know why, but certain foods always make me worry about it, especially anything with dark-colored filling or boxes of raisins or things like that... I always imagine how easily a bug could be hidden inside or something. o.o

I can't recall ever actually having that happen to me, fortunately. Once when I was a little kid, though, I did unwrap a piece of candy and find it covered in ants. Maybe that's the source of my paranoia, I don't know. Either that, or just the fact that I'm mildly terrified of ants in the first place.

Bugs like spiders, beetles, ants, ladybugs, etc. are okay....
Multi-colored beetles are epic~ I used to have a bunch of them in my old school.. kinda like class pets xD. They were interesting to observe :3
But the other parasitic, disgusting ones that hide away in food are just ..... *shudders* TwT

I haven't had too many problems with organic foods. I do find bugs in my garden sometimes but it's not to bad. The only thing I really had a problem with were slugs. I just put a container of beer out and that took care of them pretty quick.

I have not and will not get packaged spinach from any store. My mom found a dead grasshopper in a spinach package, threw the whole thing out and hasn't gotten any spinach from there again.
