Google + just came out. It's still in invitation only mode but my friend just invited me the other day. Yay! Has anyone else been invited and gotten a chance to poke around on it yet?

I enjoy the idea of the friend circles. I kind of wish they'd take it a step further so different friends could see a different name. I'd like for my family and friends to see my real name and my internet friends to see my internet name and never the twain shall meet. My internet activities would freak out a lot of my family and friends >_> And on the flip side I don't necessarily want all of my internet friends to stalk me in real life. I'm hoping this will be poked with because I really want to have just one account instead of several as I do with Facebook.

I can't really comment on too much yet though since I haven't gotten a chance to poke around much. That function could already exist and I'm just too tired to find it. At any rate, since this is still in its baby stages, I'm excited to see how it will grow. :D

It sounds cool. I'd rather join that then stay on Facebook. Keep us posted on anything cool about it while you're busy posting around. Can you, yourself, send out invitations now?

I'm going to move this on over to the computers forum, as it seems more appropriate there. :D

I don't really like my facebook. Goggle + probably won't kill Facebook, but I hope my important people will all move there XD

Google + is considered to be a social network like Facebook, so I thought it would be more appropriate with the rest of the social networking sites over in community site discussion. =/

I'm not sure what Google+ is. Besides adding your friends to friend lists, what else can you do?

It seems like Facebook without the games on it. You add friends and post statuses. It's not bad.

And you can send out invites right now. That's how I was able to try it out.

Well, maybe the idea is to separate friends from buddies and again, them from some random peeps you've seen somewhere (of course you can add them to your friend list!!!) and to make things more "private". Never tried this Google+, but does it work like... mhh, well is it possible to make private updates for different circles. For ex:
Family circle's update: "Ooh, I love to read for my tests!"
Buddies: "Oh how I hate tests!"
Friends: "k3wl ju5t s4w my h0n3yp13 runnin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111"

Aaand I'm out of description. But you know what I mean! =3

I was just invited today and have been poking around on it, it seems complicated haha I kind of hope everyone just sticks with facebook so I don't end up left in the dust again like with Myspace. Maybe I'll get the hang of it with a little more poking? It just seems like a good way to continue being someone other than yourself, I mean if you hate tests, say so, you shouldn't be fake and have to create circles of classified people to do so.

I heard some friends talking about it but didn't know what it was until I read people's posts here (thanks guys!).

I don't know, I think the exclusion of games will make it somewhat cleaner (no more annoying "ACCEPT MY PRESENT ON THIS APP" spam), but at the same time, some games are fun...

But I guess I'll have to try it for myself before I can say more about it.

I edited the first post to add the link to Google +. Basically, it's Google's attempt at social networking yet again. There's also this demo page. Right now it's a lot like facebook with a wall that you can post to, but there are much better friend filtering options. So not everyone can see everything you post. Relevant posts can be seen only by specific people. There are also cool features for those groups of friends such as the ability to conference call with them and to have mobile devices group friend conversations to plan get togethers and stuff. It has a lot of potential.

Also agree that I don't need games on this thing. Livejournal is already trying to shove games at me and though I was addicted to Facebook games for a while, I've since given them up.

My my, this actually feels... quite good! :O Love the idea of "hangouting". And the "Sparks" seem promising too. Now I just have to get some people into my circle, I think it takes time to move from Facebook to this one. Or then people will bother to keep up with both of them.

Never got an invite (I'm not that cool, Mommy dearest) but I heard it's got a potential for identity theft (well, I guess slightly worse than Facebook). So no, I don't think I'll be joining.

With Facebook selling my personal information hand over fist, I'm far less worried about Google.

Invitations are still limited, you can only send out a few, but I'm sure they'll open them up as more things get tweaked.

True! I feel the same, although there's never a guarantee in this stuff...!

Yeah, I'd say that pretty much covers it. Reading can be your friend.

I've poked around Google+ a bit. It has a couple cool features for sure (the circles are a good enough idea, for example) - I most like that I can click on Photos and it shows just pictures any of my friends have posted. I think I might be enjoying the site more when more of my pals join - right now I've mainly got the egomaniac tech geeks/amateur "authors" who like to hear themselves talk. I feel like I'm trapped in a blog ping-pong with them competing for +1s. I'm not enjoying that so much.

It is nice and quiet without game spam, but I wonder whether the lack of apps will be a bad thing for them in the long run.

Edit: I should add, I realize that the addition of apps is probably inevitable. It's just that so many early adopters that I know are so rabidly anti-app right now (specifically, the games, which they feel are brainless and dumb and responsible for letting inferior people invade their Facespace) that they've convinced themselves it will never happen.. It's become part of their "G+ Owns All" rhetoric. xD
