Kara raised an eyebrow, but stood up and followed them nonetheless. Whatever, none of their magic tricks were going to impress her. They joked about eating pixie hearts for dinner. Yeah, pixie supporters were the minority, but she had a hard time accepting any "pixie haters" as being anything but horrible. Some could make it, because it was a generally accepted idea that pixies were animals that needed to be killed. Since animals were eaten, pixies were too.

Earth fairies tended to avoid meat, because of their affiliation with animals, so there were a lot of earth fairies in pixie support, but there still weren't enough. It would never be enough. If she could find a way to adopt Sweet Pea, she would. Technically, the law allowed it, since she could just say that she'd adopted the pixie as a pet, but Kara was afraid that Sweet Pea would be killed the moment she was left alone. Until pixie supporters were larger in number, poor little Sweet Pea had to stay with the rest of the pixies. It was her birthday this Saturday... Kara promised her she'd be there. Hmm... Now would be as good a time as any to ask them if she would be free from their wishes on Saturday. "Excuse me, I have plans on Saturday, will I be free to see to them? If you need me, I'll certainly attend to whatever you want, I don't want to break the law or anything, but I don't want to disappoint the person I'm going to see" Kara asked.

Frost and Void were chattering in hushed tones. It may have looked to Kara that they were trying to find punishments for her. Since she'd promised to do whatever they wanted. Frost had not paid attention to her until she said something. His ears seemed to perk up just like a dogs. He turned and walked back to her, looking at her attentively. "Now what sort of person were you planning on meeting? Its got to be pretty important to risk breaking the law." Frost was just curious. He had no intention of being rude or making the girl afraid. She already thought him to be heartless.

Kara shook her head "The law will always come first. I simply wanted to know if you will need me on Saturday. If you do then that's the end of it. If you tell me I'll be free and then decide you need me on Saturday, then I'll stay with you. The law comes first. I will do as you please until my offense has been paid. Frankly, who I'm going to see is none of your business" she answered back. It was true, he didn't need to know who she was seeing, and he definitely didn't need to know that she was going to see Sweet Pea. If he had need for her... then she'll send a message to Sweet Pea explaining the situation. The law always came first. This was the fairydom's greatest law. To break it would mean an audience with the council and most likely prison to follow, perhaps exile or death.

Frost's little expression didn't change for a moment, then it turned a little sour. He stood up straight and looked down at her. If she was going to be that way, then fine. "As a matter of fact, yes. You will be needed on Saturday. Myself and Void will accompany you to visit, whoever it may be that you wish to hide from us." He narrowed his eyes at her. They were the eyes of a commander, but they were not cruel. "I will know if you take us elsewhere. I'm very good at detecting deception."

Kara locked Frost's gaze, not wavering. If he was going to be that way, then maybe she could still keep him and his brother away from Sweet Pea. "You may recall that I told you I'm a strong pixie supporter. I plan on visiting a friend of mine, a pixie, this Saturday. Considering you're the type that eats pixie hearts, you can imagine my aversion to telling you my plan details. As for my friend, it is her birthday and I refuse to spoil it by bringing in two people who are likely to eat her. I will gladly comply to your wishes if you promise to behave and not ruin her birthday. I realize I have no right to ask you this, but I'm asking it of you anyway. I'd rather you not come at all, but since you must know where I'm going, I only ask that you not ruin her birthday" was her answer. No... she wouldn't tell them who Sweet Pea was, that'd just put her in danger. Sweet Pea was reaching the age of a child on Saturday, and that was the perfect time when pixies are butchered and their hearts fed to the rich fairies. It was disgusting. If he wanted to prove he wasn't heartless, this was the perfect time to do it.

Frost eyed her for a moment. She was bold, he had to give her that. He liked her spunk, but he wasn't used to being confront like this. "No. You are not in the position to be making demands." Then he shrugged. "I'll 'behave' if you'd like. Just to humor you. I'll be what humans call....a fly on the wall? Like I wasn't even there." He looked back at Void with a questioning look, but he shook his head. "Naw, Bro. I'm not up for the pixie scene." Frost shrugged and looked at her again. "Thats alright. You wouldn't have wanted him to come anyway. He's moody."

Kara sighed heavily but nodded "very well, as you wish... master" she answered, spitting the last word out sarcastically. That settled, she pushed past Frost and continued down the path. Hopefully she'll be able to do damage control with Sweet Pea. She was horribly shy and terrified of any fairy that came into the colony, unless they were with pixie support. She turned back to Frost "thank you, by the way, for agreeing to my request" she told him sincerely. She wouldn't smile at him, he hadn't quite earned a smile just yet, but he'd redeemed himself in her eyes slightly. The fact that he agreed to behave meant a lot.

Frost wasn't prepared for the push past him. He'd almost lost his balance, growing slightly under his breath. Void chuckled slightly and followed after the girl a little. "Hey, Missy. You're supposed to be following us, remember?" Frost did smile a little at the face she thanked him. He was getting her to look at him in a different light. It would take awhile, but she was warming up to him. Was that a good thing? He is an ice fairy...that can't be good.

Kara scoffed "well if you would move your scrawny behinds I would be following you, wouldn't I?" she answered Void. Yes, she was teasing him. Enough of the serious stuff. She needed to be comfortable with them if she was ever going to convince Sweet Pea that Frost wasn't going to hurt her. That meant that she would have to make an effort to get along with them both. She didn't have the right to be asking them for favors, but she did have the right to warm up to them... as horrible a thought as that may be. At least she wouldn't fall in love with them... would she? They were beyond handsome... but they were dark fairies, and they ate pixie hearts. But then again... maybe they didn't. Maybe they didn't like the taste. No! Just... just think about Aden. Unreachable, but perfect. If they weren't like him, then she'd be safe... right? She landed on the ground when she realized that there was a very real possibility that she would fall in love with one of them (Frost, most likely). Just how long would they keep her?

Void looked at her with a dark look. He didn't like being teased by someone he didn't know. He thought about it for a moment, then sighed. "You're right. Frost, you're too slow." Void started down the street as Frost just stared at them. What was going on? The atmosphere had changed dramatically. He sighed and followed after, soon catching up to Void. The person who looked at him oddly. "Were we going to drop by Flare's place, or no?"

Flare? Oh, that must be the other stop before they returned home. Kara sighed and tried to pay attention to the scenery so she could ignore Frost and Void. She didn't want to think about any possible future with them. She just wanted to appease them so she could get away from them and continue through life. It wouldn't do to fall for a dark fairy, not even if they were pixie supporters. light and dark fairies were just too different.

Frost spoke to Void about visiting Flare before they went home. He knew Kara was ignoring them, so he didn't keep his voice down. He spoke of 'deformity' and of 'cruel happenings'. He stopped soon enough outside of a large wrought iron gate. There was a large house a small walk's away from the gate. Frost smiled and opened the gate to let himself in. Then motioned for Void and Kara to follow. "Flare doesn't mind visitors...just try not to be rude."

Kara rose an eyebrow as she floated in the gate. Her, rude? Only to people that deserve it. She didn't know Flare, so there was no need to be rude to him. If he earned it, she'll try not to be rude, of course. The best course of action would be to stay quiet, of course. Just get this visit over so she could go to her new home and forget the day ever happened... or at least attempt such a feat.

Frost smiled and walked it. "Flare! Where are you, my dear?" Void stood near the door, leaning against the wall and motioned Kara to follow Frost. There was a sudden sound of hurried footfalls from overhead. Then a small girl came barreling down the hallway at Frost. His face erupted into a happy, excited face. He caught her dead on, swinging the small girl in circles in the air. He ended up holding her by just one arm under her. "How's my darling today?" She smiled and kissed his cheek. "I'm fine, Frosty." Then she looked around and her smile slipped a little. As soon as it did, Frost spoke. "Don't worry, my dear. This is a good fairy. She wouldn't hurt you. This is Kara, wind fairy. She ran into us on the street and is repaying us for her carelessness." The small girl looked at him, almost like she was chastized him. Then Frost chuckled and tickled the girl. He looked at Kara and smiled. He seemed happiest with the small girl. "Kara, this is Flare."

Well... that was unexpected...Nonetheless, manner dictated that she be polite. Kara bent her head low, in a bow of sorts "it's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Flare" she greeted. She had yet to smile since meeting the dark fairies that now controlled her immediate future. It would come, though. She'd get to see Sweet Pea on Saturday. No matter what happened to her before then, she would be overjoyed to see Sweet Pea. Her reaction to seeing Sweet Pea would likely be similar to when Frost saw Flare. Any pleasant mood she might have had before then was wiped out and a frown appeared on her face. "Please excuse me" she mumbled and walked away, leaving Frost to his friend. Void would have to make it an order for her to go back to Frost. She didn't want to intrude on his meeting, and she just didn't want to think of herself as having anything in common with Frost. She heard them talking about a deformity, right? well maybe Flare only looks small. She's probably his girlfriend or something like that. Then again, maybe not. But anything to convince her that she needed to leave them alone... anything. She didn't want any excuses to be around him. Void she didn't know, and he truly was the one she should listen to, since he was the one she ran into.

Void watched Kara's reaction, then chuckled softly to himself. If she left, he would follow. It would allow Flare and Frost to spend some times together. Flare smiled, reluctantly at Kara, then looked at Frost and pouted. "Frosty...will you play with me?" Frost smiled and nodded. "Anything for you." Void smiled and walked off as Kara left. He followed her into the other room. "Where you off to?"

Kara sighed heavily and turned to Void "away from Frost" was her simple response. He didn't need to know why she wanted to be away from Frost. She was their slave, for lack of a better term, for the time being. Of course she wanted to be away from him. Of course... now might be a good time to ask about Flare. "So... if you don't mind me asking... who is Flare, anyway?" she asked. It was implied, she assumed, that she also wanted to know why she was important to Frost, but to ask that would suggest that she was interested in Frost, which she wasn't. She just wanted to make sure that she didn't have anything in common with Frost.

Void nodded slightly. "I can understand. I can't take much of the extreme happiness they go through every time they're together." He watched her as she though, then smiled a little. It was weird to see on his face, a genuine smile. "She is our sister." He let that sink in as he watched her face to see her changing expressions.

Oh good. A sister. Kara kept her face blank, of course. She was the queen of smooth faces, it came with being a wind fairy. Unless she was feeling an extreme emotion, her face was blank. Still, since Flare was their sister, that meant that Kara didn't have anything in common with Frost. Kara's love for Sweet Pea was more maternal than anything else. Wait... "if Flare is your sister, then why doesn't she live with you? Is there anyone else living here?" she asked. Flare was certainly too young to be by herself.

Void nodded slightly. "I knew you would think about that." He leaned against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest. "Flare is special. No, there is nobody else here. A maid comes by and cleans three times a week, but other than that she just has Frost and I for company."

Special... right... alright, time to walk on thin ice. "Pardon me asking this and feel free not to answer... but just how special is Flare? I mean... she looks like she can't be more than 8" Kara asked. This was a potentially dangerous topic, certainly very personal. He had every right to not answer. Still... it was very confusing. Wait a minute... she didn't want to know about his family! No... she wanted to know about Flare. Her time with Sweet Pea has made her concerned about the welfare of a child.

Void knew what she was thinking and shook his head. "No, Flare isn't that young. She's much older than that. She's a good 45 years younger than us. She stopped growing after awhile. It scared us; myself and Frost. We took her to every healer we could find and nobody could figure out how to help her. It didn't seem to cripple her. So, we just come to visit every now at then." He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "Its sad though. She was also born without wings. Oh, the capability to have them is there, they just never grew in." He shook his head. "We try to make her life as happy as we can, give her as much attention as she wants. Frost spoils her." He straightened up and suddenly looked saddened. "She isn't stupid though. She understands things just as well as the next person does. Its just her size and wings that are crippled. She'll have a hard time finding a husband. She probably won't ever have children."

Yeah... things make a lot more sense now. Kara nodded "alright, well... that explains a few things" she commented. They obviously care about their sister, which is good. Honestly, Kara felt for Flare. She would never admit it, of course, but she felt for her. Her heart naturally went out to those downtrodden and hurt (hence why she was so active with pixie support), but to admit to caring for Flare would mean admitting to liking someone related to Frost. Alright, she just had to know. "You... you and Frost don't actually eat pixie hearts... do you? I mean, some people just don't like the flavor, but they won't really do anything about the situation because they still believe pixies are animals. And Frost said that earlier was just a ruse. You... you don't actually eat pixie hearts... do you?" she asked.

Void blinked at her, like her question was absurd. "I've only tried it once. To tell the truth, it was part of an elaborate dare." He shrugged. "I don't know where they'd gotten it from and I didn't ask. I was very young back then." He watched her expression, not really caring what she thought of him. Frost had taken a liking to her for some reason. "Haven't eaten one since, fairy's honor. Not that I would anyway." He held up a finger. "Just for the record, Frost was uber pissed at me after he found out."

Kara relaxed significantly upon hearing the truth. Even if they still think that pixies are animals, at least they don't eat them. Sweet pea will be safe on Saturday. "Thank you, but I have to wonder... why in the world would you tell me Frost's reaction? Unless you're trying to point out that he doesn't eat pixie either, I don't really care what he thinks" she asked. alright, so maybe Frost wasn't heartless. This is bad... this is very bad. It was easier to combat hi attractiveness if he had a black heart. She wasn't going to ask why they didn't eat pixie heart... that might just elevate Frost into a plane of wonderfulness.

'Just think about Aden... unreachable and perfect. Aden... Aden... Aden... Aden... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooo!!!!! !!!!! Why!? Void's attitude is alright. He's not as golden as Aden, of course, but his attitude is ok... but every time Frost does something, he proves that he might, at least, have a... normal heart. I will not accept that he has a golden heart. I will not elevate him to Aden's standard... never. He is a dark fairy. I don't care how amazingly gorgeous he is, he is a dark fairy, it would never work. To fall for him is just setting yourself up for heartbreak' she thought to herself. "So... are we likely to stay here all day?" she asked. She really wasn't too keen on sticking around.
