So I was sweeping my room earlier, and suddenly noticed a fish missing from my fish tank. The fish were known to jump out of the tank spontaneously, so I looked around for it to see if its body was nearby...but no luck. I spent probably a good half hour looking everywhere, even shifting the desk around to see if it was in the little gap between the wall and the desk...nope.
But the scent of bad, decaying fish lingered. It took another ten minutes before I finally found the body: Squished and mutilated due to my shifting the desk and therefore grinding right over its body. And now my entire room smells like bad fish.
:headdesk:
- Ever had the experience of something dying in your room/house, where you couldn't find the body? Or found the body and had a very ':gonk:' moment cleaning it away?

As I'm reading your post, my expression was probably something like this at the conclusion:

And then I think, well, he had a good life I'm sure, there was nothing you could do.

Eww haha and I really hope that you don't get a flood of replies from people who, yes in fact, have had rotten bodies lost in their homes *gag*...
You should get a lid for your tank ;)

Well, I'm not sure, but for now I have the windows wide open in hope that it'll clear away soon...if not, I'll...er...spray perfume in the area? :gonk:

The fish just smells the worst. I've had dead geckos and dead roaches and tons of other dead stuff rotting in the house, I just can't find them. :XD (found a few dead geckos though...all dried up and stuff)
Yeah. I'm looking for something to cover the tank with...been looking for a week but didn't find anything suitable that wouldn't grow mold on it after a while due to the dampness from evaporation.

I'm sorry to hear that but I haven't had that problem in my room. But in the laundry room there is something decaying there, we suspect it's a rat or an animal that crawled into our ventilation. )= Poor, poor baby, had a sad way to go. Anyways, I hope it will soon die out. ^^

Oh, jeez... I would not be able to clean that up! The only way I'm able to scoop out my cat's litter box is by knowing it'll only get smellier.
I don't think I've actually ever experienced something like that, though. But a few years ago, when my mom lived near the mountains, we had a rat or something in the kitchen and a neighbor came over to "take care of it". The idiot shot it while it hid under the stove.

Use some room spray like Febreeze or something like that? Maybe use thin chicken wire or something to keep the fish from jumping, or a mesh screen -- can get those at any home improvement store.
I have to clean out my cat's litter box as soon as my kitty goes in there, otherwise the entire house will stink like the box.

At my work, they put out rat poison and one ate it then died in the wall. It was horrible. For months it smelt like a dead body in the front of the store. I'm just glad costumers can't come in and eat.
At a more personal level, I had a zebra fish that decided to jump out of the tank back where the tank was open for the filter. I found her under my dresser after she dried up and was all nasty. I couldn't find her for the longest time though and that smell was terrible.

I had a cat about three years ago who would like to chill in my room at the
time. I was really busy that year and didn't notice my cat would sleep
in the closet. It's really a tight space between the closet since i have
two shelves on each side and I hang my clothes on the wall.
> > besides my odd way of hanging clothes, my parents have
a habit of shoving things in that closet. So, my dad needed to
take something out one day...and there was a rat. A dead rat
just chilling in my closet. .w .
the cat ran away a couple of months later guess we didn't
meet up to his demands.

I found dead baby rabbits under my bed. All dried up and stuck to the carpet.
The mother had had them under there and I didn't know. =\
I honestly don't remember a smell. Just the faint squeaks of what I thought were mice just running through the house.

....SHOT it?! Like, with a gun?! Wouldn't that have...exploded the rat or something??? :gonk:

It didn't smell anymore when I went to bed last night, thankfully. :XD
I found a spare tile from somewhere and stuck that on top of the tank...hopefully that will be enough so that the fish won't jump out from the inch-wide gap on the right and the three-inch gap on the left...

Oh my Gods, that's horrible! Poor fish. :( Did you sleep in the room while the fish was dead there? I wasn't able to stand the smell for more than thirty seconds and ran off for some fresh air.

Definitely not something I'd ever like to see in my closet. Ever. Especially when my closet is so cramped and filled with things that a dead rat in there would almost definitely mean that the body would be stuck to all sorts of clothes in there...:gonk:

That's like the time in junior high school where our class found a dead pre-born kitten in our home economics classroom. There was a puddle of blood on the ground and a dead kitty with no fur in the middle of it...no one wanted to touch it so I went and got a plastic bag, stuck my hand in it, and plucked the dead kitten up and away...it was cold to the touch and felt...squishy.

飛段: Is the smell in your room bearable or does it still stink? Yes, almost a year now, I really hope it clears up. It's why I stop doing the laundry, I just cannot go in there and expect to take that smell. Dx

I don't smell anything in there anymore, thank the Gods.
I usually deal with stenches by taking a deep breath somewhere without the smell, and try to rush through whatever business I have in the room that smells, and get out of there before I run out of oxygen.

I once lost my sister's hamster while cleaning it's cage...and later that day we were cutting the birthday cake for my sis and my mom stepped on a hamster head. Near about scared her to death.
Apparently cats and hamsters don't mix well... ;o; It was also traumatizing for two little kids. lol

@Night: Holy shit! That would've freaked me out so bad. :gonk: And was it only the head? Where did the rest of it go? :gonk:
@Mystic: Ouch, that really sucks. :( I guess not much can beat the smell of dead decaying things...
@Lightkanna: I can hold mine for roughly 50 - 70 seconds depending...enough for me to rush through those public toilets when outside. :XD;;
@Redwolfserena: Oh dear. Bad eggs are also one of those smells I hope I never smell again. I have an egg in my room that I painted and decorated, it doesn't have a hole in it but I've left it there under the sun for about two years so it's all dried up by now. :XD Wouldn't risk ever cracking it open though, I hate to imagine what the insides look like now.
And it's okay. :) I'm a bit sad about the fish, but hopefully with the tile I now place over it at night it'll stop them from killing themselves...can't do much about it for now during the day because they need the light too, so until I find some screening to put over the tank, the tile will have to do.
@Nonsensical: Oh Gods, at least that's a relief...shooting at a rat under a stove...*shakes head*
