Cookie ~ It just sounds wrong.
Most of my family doesn't or won't cook together.
I have mostly cooked with my Dad, he is the one I have always made jams, jellies & pickles with. He used to do a lot of the canning with my Mom's mother before she died & then I took over helping. I had gotten to the point where I could make his slaw & hot dog chili and the family didn't know the difference.
I bought a recipe book for my mom just to write down her recipes in, but after so many years I don't think she is ever gonna get around to writing them down for me.
I am happy I did annoy her until she gave me her meatloaf recipe (I have it posted in my bakery thread if anyone else wants it).
I still have not been able to get her to teach me her bread recipe, I love it & ask her to make it & teach me every year, but she still hasn't bothered to teach me.
Connielass ~ One recipe I really wanted was the macaroni one of the ladies I used to work with made, it was so good. She didn't want to share the recipe. I asked her sister for the recipe a few years ago after the lady had died, she tried to give me the recipe, but it wasn't right something was missing.
It bugs me when people don't want to share recipes. I would rather share recipes so other can enjoy them.
It took my Mom & Dad many years to finally get close to recreating my Grandmothers Thanksgiving dressing recipe.

Agreed. But someone must like it. *shrugs*
My mom is a pretty good cook. But she hits a stumbling block when it comes to any sort of ethnic food. No matter how much I try to tell her that rice for Asian dishes does not need to be buttered or otherwise flavored, she always cooks it with butter or broth. And no matter how many times I give her my enchilada recipe, she always ends up using flour tortillas instead of corn and ends up with mushy enchiladas. I guess she gets it from my grandmother. If she cooks anything even remotely "foreign" it's a monstrosity. On the one hand, cooking is all about exploring your options and flavors. On the other hand, ew.
Anyway, I love sharing recipes. What's the point of a secret recipe? I like for other people to try them out and tweak them an enjoy them. I just love yummy food really.

Well, it's in the Christmas song "We wish you a merry Christmas" They sing "So bring us some figgy pudding".
If you're an American, pudding it that brown chocolatey stuff that Bill Cosby peddles. But in Britain, pudding is something different. Actually, it's a lot of different things since they have blood pudding (a sausage) to sticky toffee pudding (a dessert similar to figgy pudding). But in this instance, a figgy pudding is basically a big steamed cake chock full of figs. It tastes like a giant fig newton cake.
Anyway, if you like fig newtons, I definitely recommend trying it. If you hate fig newtons, but still want to try a sweet pudding like this, I recommend a sticky toffee pudding, because those are delicious.

I like fig newtons that don't have figs in them!
I like the strawberry flavored kind.

Sadly, I hate the various berry flavored newtons. Every time I buy them, they are so ridiculously sweet that they're unenjoyable to me. To think, that when I was a kid, there was no such thing as too much sugar! And now that I'm older, there totally is! And there are so many unevenly balanced sweet things out there. Like this Trader Joe's chai that I bought. I tried their pumpkin chai before and it suffered from an absolute lack of salt oddly enough. It was sweet and spicy, but it needed salt to balance it all out and it had none. I decided to give their chai another shot, but this one is exactly the same. Sweet and spicy, but it needs salt to balance it out. It's a curious little epiphany that sweet needs salt. But I made some chocolate chip cookies where the recipe called for sprinkling salt on top of the cookies and it absolutely made a remarkable difference. So now I notice things like sweets needing salt to balance it.
And wow, what a tangents. But yeah, I'm no longer a fan of fruit newtons because they're too sweet! I don't even care for regular newtons that much anymore because I feel like they've changed in some fundamental way that makes them no longer enjoyable, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe they're too dry? When I was a kid they were advertised as being not a cookie, but fruit and cake. But now they're very dry. Maybe it's that.

Understandable.
Now that you mention it, the last time I had a strawberry fig newton I was probably like 14. O_O
If they are too sweet to you, they're probably too sweet for me too now. I absolutely hate American chocolate because it's way too sweet and it feels like eating diabetes. It also has a lot of weird ingredients that make it taste almost "cheesy" rather than milky
I am not a sweets person, usually. I like things plain or slightly salty.

I bought a thing of fruit newtons...in the last two years. I honestly can't remember when, but it was fairly "recently".
I do like American chocolate, but I feel like I read somewhere that Hershey uses some sort of fermenting process that makes their chocolate taste off to people from other countries. Also, a British friend complained that Hershey kisses were "gritty". Though to be honest, I found British chocolate to be far sweeter when I used to live there. I don't really have a strong preference in the chocolate debate, as long as it's not dark chocolate. *shudders*

Of course not? Why continue making things that are good that you like when they can keep churning out things you don't like?!

I hate it when they discontinue good things.
My favorite breakfast cereal as a kid got discontinued... It was Smorz. But I heard recently that they brought it back!

They had some spiderman marshmallow chex things one time that I really loved, but alas, those kind of cereals have a limited run.
Oh, you know what else they got rid of that I loved? Fruit filled mini wheats. They were plain mini-wheats, no frosted, and they had either raisin or cinnamon apple filling. They were amazing because all the sweetness was in the filling. But they stopped making them. They rolled out frosted mini-wheats with fruit filling, but they are just not good. For one thing, they're frosted, and the filling is so stingy, it might as well not be there. The best part of the other kind was that the filling was the star. Now the filling is an afterthought and I hate them. *cries*

I guess the moral of the story is not to fall in love with anything you didn't make yourself and can easily recreate.

Truth.
Also, French Toast Crunch is back, and has been for a few months now(at least); my store carries it, but in the large-size bags.

The best EVER cereal was definitely the Powerpuff Girls' cereal.
It was pretty much rice krispies with pop rocks in it! Soooo gooooood!
