Yay...tilework is DONE on the backsplash now.
Tomorrow is a day off, and Saturday it gets grouted.
Sunday he'll put up the under cabinet lights.
I think by Monday we'll be ready to do some painting!

oooh oooh me first!! *raises hand* i'd love for him to do my kitchen... mr.llonka is a lazy butt and our kitchen has been in the making for almost a year now. :stare: i wish he'd just paint it already and forget about sanding down the cabinets. now he wants to replace all the doors and just sand the main cabinet part. my dad said that sounds like a stupid idea. *shrugs*

llonka...after my experience painting our cabinets, I'd say to get new doors done and have a professional paint them. (Preferably spraying them). You can probably do the base part yourself.
Ours just did NOT turn out as I had hoped.
We sanded the doors, did 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint, and it just did not come out very well. The paint kinda sagged, and it's not glossy all over...just in blotches. It was expensive paint, too!
I think if we had them sprayed we wouldn't have had the blotchy and sagging problems.

well he doesn't want to paint again, he wants to sand them down and then stain them. :P he likes the wood look.
i'm sorry they didn't turn out how you wanted, Jean. :(
haha that ok hummy, he knows he's a lazy bum when it comes to stuff like that.

I'm kinda wishing we had just re-stained ours.
But we would have had to stain them darker to make it look right, and our kitchen doesn't have enough natural light in it.
That's why we went with the off-white cabinets....to lighten it up more.

I like the Red Oak....it's a richer color than the plain light oak stuff.

They're really hard to sand.
We found a place here in Austin that made cabinet doors for our new cabinets to match our current cabinet doors.
It saved us a ton of $$...
