Hey, everyone :-) I'm new here and looking to join some threads... My friends call me the crazy cat lady (even though I only have three of them... sheesh), or refer to my house as "The Zoo". I just love my animals, and since I hate kids and will never have any of my own, my pets are my children :-).
My first pet (I'm not counting ones that I had growing up with my parents here), I adopted from a Humane Society when he was a year old. I commonly refer to him as "The love of my life" or "My soulmate in a cat's body". His name is Little Caesar, but I just call him Big Kitty (He's 19lbs). He's now 8 years old, has moved 3 times with me, and is still my greatest love.
Next came "Little Kitty"... his real name is Toby, but my ex named him and I never use his name... never have, really. I got him as a "pet" for Big Kitty, and they've been together now for 4 years. I consider him my special needs cat... he will randomly start meowing like he's in pain (I've had him checked out many times by the vet) until you call for him. It's like he's confused and doesn't know where or who he is for a minute. He's also the only one who will chase the laser around in circles repeatedly for hours, even though he falls over or runs into walls... he just keeps going!
Then I got my third kitty (this is when my friends started calling my place a zoo... jerk-offs) when I moved into my first house. I named him Haru. He was from a local rescue and had been in a litter of feral kittens... it shows. He has destroyed my house by scratching up all the walls (instead of the multitude of scratching posts around... heck I'd even prefer he scratch the furniture, but no) and shredding my molding. He also hates being held, and hides whenever something new comes into the house. I fondly refer to him as the spawn of Satan...
Lastly, I got my dog just recently (March 2011) from the Humane Society. He's an eight year old Shepherd/Husky mix that I named Chaucer (can you spot the literary reference??). He is my escape artist and has gone missing twice (once for 6 weeks) already. But he's so mellow and laid back... he's my ideal dog. Now if he would just stay home >.<
Finally, I also foster a dog for a local rescue. Currently, the dog I'm fostering is named Emily, she's a 1 y/o rotty/hound/lab mix. She's very petite, about 40lbs, and VERY hyper. She was pulled from a shelter in the south and brought up here to Maine. I've had her for a little over a month now, and I'm hoping she finds her perfect home soon :-)
