he's the only boy, and he's loving it! wanted to get him a brother. hubby thought these two new ones would be kittens, but they aren't. they are prolly about six months old or so. about the same age as Rigby.

For awhile there I hated dogs, they scared me. But then Rocky came into my life. He was a small, Pomeranian/Dachshund mix. He was kind of a scaredy cat and only liked my mom and I, but he was so sweet. He was my baby. Sadly, two bigger dogs decided they wanted to 'play' with him. Then there was Maggie. She was old and probably sick, but we took her in off the streets because she was the sweetest Golden Retriever ever. And she loved our cats, they took naps on top of her and rubbed against her all the time. It was beautiful. We knew she didn't really have long to live, but some douchebag decided that he wanted to take her life into his own hands. That's all I'll say about it cause it's pretty upsetting, but those are two of the best dogs I've ever had.

I didn't want anymore animals because somehow they always got taken from me. But...then I got Toby. He's a little over a year old and he's a chocolate lab. He's sweet and playful but he's still got much to learn. And I hope we both have a long journey together ahead of us.

Anyways, I just kind of wanted to share my pet story! lol I didn't even know this thread was here >< -doesn't visit this forum often-

aw, i know how hard it is to lose your beloved pets.
and your stories are just too sad.
but it shows what a big heart you have.
*always loves animal lover's*
the 'played' with doggies has me in tears.
and how sweet of you to take in an older dog,
who most people would just look at as 'trash', it just breaks my heart into pieces.

i can't remember what i read that made me ping you, and i hope it was okay i did.
but i just knew you would fit in with us.
we talk about any and every thing here so feel free to jump in anytime.
also if no one is here and you leave a post we will reply!
we are a yackie bunch and very friendly too.
welcome!

Thank you llonka! :)

@hummy: It is hard. But they're still with us in our hearts <3
I wish I could take in more dogs off the streets. They all deserve to have homes and to be happy.

Thank you :) I'm going to subscribe to this thread right after this post! And I'll stop by here often :)

it tears my heart apart to see homeless animals. especially the ones that have had a bad life and are scared of people. that is probably why my family feeds so many strays ...

yeah, I have talked about that for years! my very own animal rescue on huge property and employees to help me give them love ...

it was sad though because there was a stray dog at my old apartment complex. I named him Baby. when he first started coming around he was deathly afraid of people. but I was very patient and over a year and a half of feeding him, he was finally comfortable enough to let me touch his head for a split second before running away. he got hit by a car 2 months ago.

the ASPCA commercials they do always makes me cry at the first note of the music being played.
my Godmother had tons of animals when she lived upstate New York.
i really miss that.
she had: a fawn who lived in the front porch, a raccoon who lived where ever he wanted, chickens, ponies, dogs, cats, birds,
a baby goat, a couple of ferrets and i feel like i am forgetting a lot.
but needless to say, you spent a lot of time feeding animals!
i always disliked hearing, 'honey-babie *that's me*, go get me a few eggs.'
chicken coops stink!
oh, and a cow.

yeah, I remember those days of having to go get eggs from the coop. The coop smelled bad and the chickens didn't like us taking their eggs.

we developed a door so that when we went to get the eggs, we'd toss a hand full of corn into the pen and when they were all out, we'd slide the door to the coop shut so we could get in there and get the eggs. then when we were done we'd pull the lever thing and raise the door back up.

 i'm a kansas girl and i've never had to go in a chicken coop.... :ninja: i feel somewhat left out!

hubby and i have started feeding the neighborhood cats, so far we've seen about five or six kitties at the outside food dish. :) hubby also feeds the birds and the squirrels. they might as well count as ours, because of how much money he spends on those guys!

Haha. My grandma's chickens were always really nice when we went in the coop. We could get the eggs from them without them being mean at all. You could either just reach underneath them or wait until they got off, or lift them up and move them to get to the eggs.

when we had our chicken we had several roosters. one had the most God-awful crows. sounded like someone was trying to kill him instead of a normal crow. every time my dad would butcher one for dinner we prayed he got that one. he never did.
