I want a puppy :( I can't have one though.
No real suggestion on breeds but I love the working class dogs.
I don't like small dogs >.< I have this fear of stepping on them.

i want a puppie for christmas!! :eager: we can't have on either though. too many cats. :P if i could have one, i'd get a wiener dog, or a french bull dog, or a pug.
why oh why must these cats have to potty on the floor?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! :gonk: the boxes are clean, been using urine gone stuff, shampooing, sprinkling baking soda on the floor. they are still using the whole house. :( at my wits ends....

once they get the floorr/rug scented it's really hard to break them of the habit.
a squirt gun or squirt bottle is a good way to 'train' them not to use the rug/floor as a litter box.
it's a battle, hope you win, llonka!

A dog bigger than a slipper!
Good ol' big dogs. <3
----------
ACTUALLY, after saying that I came up with a real answer. xD
If you're going to get a puppy, I would recommend a cross breed/mongrel.
These dogs are so underrated for not being complete pure breeds, a lot of them go to bad homes or are killed or sold as working dogs. I've always had cross breeds and they are so loving and sweet, they have totally unique personalities due to the mix and are often healthier than pure breed dogs because the two breed mixes can cancel out certain health problems related to single breeds.

Princess was a mutt. seems like a bad thing to say but I loved her so much. She was Austrian Shepard, German Shepard and Chow.

she was a really sweet dog and really energetic but at more appropriate times. she seemed o know when it was playtime and when it was time to be a good doggy and get some exercise in. Anyway, point is that I agree with SP. :) mixed breeds can be very awesome dogs.
I used to want a hamster. :( never was allowed. they reminded my mom too much of rats >.< and yet my brother could have a gecko (which he gave to me when he got tired of it) and he eats crickets and those, it does;t seem to matter how careful you are, escape sometimes.

i don't have a shelter nearby that adopts out.
they capture loose animals and send them to another no-kill shelter.
it's a bit too far away for me to go check them out.
i'm kind of glad, actually, i'd have a house full of pets if they were close.
i'll check out the classified ads this weekend.
thank you, i appreciate y'alls input.

I think the next time I know I can have a puppy and keep them for their entire lifespan, I'll go to a shelter rather than a breeder. It just feels nicer to save an animal from being put down. I used to volunteer at the shelter in my city but it got to be so hard! they would put the animals down :(

i applied to an animal shelter once.
the interviewer asked me, 'do you have any objection to 'da youth in asia' *i swear that is how he said it!*.
O.o
i was confused and i said, 'why would i?'
he's all, 'you are hired!'
i was so excited all up until i found out what he meant.
*sad, sad face*
it was really embarrassing to call up and decline the job due to my stupidity.
i told him there was no way i could euthanize *spelling* an animal.
and nervously laughing i said, 'but i still have no objection *spoken with each letter crisply spoken* to the youth in Asia!'
he called me back several times to take the position but i could never do it.

They did warn me well ahead of time but some of the other volunteers said that its still really rewarding because basically you play with the animals so they don't get so lonely and they look like happier animals when people come by and that makes them more likely to get adopted. But when you play with them, you end up getting so attached. I stuck it out for a long time until this one puppy Id gotten so attached to was put down. She was the sweetest thing really :( but unfortunately she was a St. Bernard. And people don't really go for puppies that are going to grow into super big dogs.

In a way we rescued my dog. The owner had just had a baby at the same time their dog had puppies, so they couldn't look after them and were going to get rid of them. So basically they told us to take her or she was being sold as a working dog. Poor little thing wasn't even weaned yet. So we took her and looked after her, weaned her and everything. I can happily say my dog is the most loving creature ever, i'm so glad we got her before she got sold off.
As for hamsters, I always wanted one because i'd never had one, and my mum always refused because she wanted rats instead. xD Then she became allergic to rats, I feel really sorry for her because they're one of her favourite animals.

my mom likes turtles and she used to have a parrot but my dad killed it >.< he fed it something weird. not sure what when she was away. we do have turtles outside but they're in our pond.
glad you got to save your puppy :) I got princess from one of my mom's coworkers. the owner didn't have a baby or anything. she just didn't want the puppies. So she sent an email out to the whole company posted that she had 3 puppies to give away or she'd drop them off at the shelter. my mom had been looking at getting me a dog since I asked for one many times a day every single day (I was persistent) so, she took me to go se them. I instantly loved princess. the other puppies also went to other coworkers.

my heart wouldn't let me not take a doomed animal home.
i get that from my Godmother, there is not an animal she hasn't brrought home.
they live in upstate New Yorrk and i tell her the animals all get togetther when it gets too cold to go 'bunk' at her house.
like they have a referral system or something.
'she's a soft hearrt, just look wounded and sad and she'll take you in!'
i'm glad you guys got to rescue your doggies.
that does seem to make a really good, strong bond between people and their pets.

I would take in every dog I see if I had the space.
I am like, the biggest dog lover ever.
I went to a pet shop when I was visiting America and it actually had dogs in tanks.
I nearly cried. We don't have that here. It's not fair to the animal.
I was getting ready to ship every dog in there back to England. . .
And a guy on the train was selling a gorgeous dog for $50, it just looked at me with these "help me" eyes and it had a little bandage on it's little paw. ;-; He won it in a skateboarding competition and didn't want it. I so hope someone nice took it. ;-;
