Yes, there must always be at least 3 lights for beauty shots. The strongest light is the yellow spotlight, and then there's the blue light from the back as well as the reflective light. I had the platform for the occlusion turn around but removed it for the final outcome. This was actually a sort of team work, each of us have to build our own models from scratch, but we must have them together as a "theme" so they look related to each other. The lighting setup was not done by me, so I have little control over that, hence the lack of platform.
I really appreciate your feedback, though. We don't get many users with extensive 3D knowledge around these forums. xD
lol I wasn't sure if you'd seen it or not or maybe just didn't find it relevant. sad you don't have control over the lighting. I could see the spotlight just not the others too well. But if every group member's model has the same lighting it does its job. your model sell looks super cool. And it's definitely better to be more cohesive in group projects. At least that's my experience. All of the group projects I had, the aesthetics could be HORRIBLE but we'd get crazy points for being coordinated with it. Sad because some groups I've come across, 1 person does something really cool and another person does something badass too but it's different and they end up with the lower grade than the group that had stuff that wasn't as amazing (mediocre even) but all matched. Ah the joys of group projects >.<

could always make your own personal turnarounds and stuff for yourself though. that would be good. You definitely have a cool model. show it off!

I think more people get overwhelmed by the technical aspect of 3d. I mean I LOVE it.. but sometimes.. I just want to draw! I just want to paint or I just want to be creatively productive and not spend hours of work moving vertices around so things are just right. you kind of lose that creative momentum in 3d. you don't with the traditional tools. That's how I feel about it most of the time anyway.

It's a kid's song...?

I had no idea. D: I just like it because it's super duper awesomely random.

Makes me want to make a felt/fleece telephone receiver glove (what) in the shape of a banana.

XD

-confetti- BANANAPHONE!

it's a catchy song. I've caught my boss randomly singing it once. he was embarrassed when he realized he was doing it aloud.

Hello, KC, Iku, white, Seito, Empress!

I didn't even know what song that was till mentioned although I've seen banana phone around. :lol:

@Empress:
Haha Yeah. It's totally understandable, though, in terms of industry. Because once you're out it doesn't matter so much how good your technical skills are if you can't work as a group, as you would always be in teams once you're working with 3D. It won't be good if the rest of your team focused on what needs to be done and someone else did their own thing, right? ;D
But even that, my model looked mediocre next to my team mates. I had 2 3D geniuses in my group. >_>;

Yes! I know EXACTLY what you mean by that. I was just chatting with wasashu about that somewhere earlier in this thread. 3D work is extremely technical and it's a lot of precise positions and mechanics it's a lot like working with math and physics, as compared to 2D where your hands could just fly freely around the paper/tablet. It's more soothing. xD

It's just so much easier to attack a paper wit a pencil and get ideas out there than it is with 3d. 3d its like I end up focusing on think "what's the best way to do the current idea" instead of exploring others. I really think people that work in 2d first for a long time before ever touching the computer end up with work that looks more inspired (at least with 3d anyway).

Not sure I'd sell your model so short in comparison to others. It looks like you have a low poly count and still a good amount of detail. One of the things I'd noticed from my classes was that those models that make you go "WHOA!" all had really high poly counts. OR they had gone ahead of the class and spent a good deal of time with normal maps that others didn't have.
