My family comes to have pets in very peculiar ways. We've had a few stray cats wind up at our door. One of them appeared and was just like "I'm here, love me." XD (Sadly, said cat has passed away since then, because he was quite old) We recently found an absolutely beautiful stray. She was just sitting out in the rain... She's affectionate and playful and one of the cutest things I've seen~

But it isn't just cats that act weirdly around us- it's other pets, too. How we got one of our hamsters was that he literally jumped at Mom when one of the pet-store employees tried to check his gender. (We had a male hamster besides this one, but we didn't want a litter of hammies. We wouldn't be able to let them go... Especially if they were cute...)

And then there are the wild animals. >.> We have a suburban wildlife preserve. Among the squirrels and birds and chipmunks, there are the deer, the rabbits, the skunks, the groundhog, the raccoon, feral cats, the occasional fox, mice, a shrew, hawks, the herons that drop by from time to time, little frogs, and once there was an owl.

Naturally, all this leads to some interesting anecdotes regarding the furry faces. There's everything from silly pet behaviors to coming face-to-face with the wild itself! So, Menewsha, what are your animal stories?

Oh geeze, don't get me started on skunks! I have an Akita dog, a breed bred for hunting brown bears in Japan. Her hunting instincts were off the charts when she was younger. We lived down south (Missouri and Arkansas) for five years total, and there was one summer that Lexi got sprayed by a skunk six separate times while attempting to hunt them. Just awful! xD

Well, we found some baby birds that were very young. Evidently something had happened to the mother bird. It was at night and we tried to feed them and it was too late to call our local Audubon Society and the poor baby birds did not make it until morning and it was very sad, but we did our best to save them.

if i could i would have a houseful of animals.
they always seem to like me and i of course love them back!
i want to work in an animal shelter but i am afraid i will bring all of them home with me.

i do see a lot of skunks around my house and had a family of three living under my front stoop.
i have since blocked off the hole they dug beside the stoop with cement blocks so they have moved on.
but unfortunately a big cat got hold of the littlest one and injured him or her.
i felt awful for this happening because i 'evicted' them from under my stoop,
but i am sure i would have felt worse if the had sprayed me out of fright.

I remember one time my dog killed a rabbit and my daddy was putting the babies out of their misery with a shovel. One survived the shovel, so my little sister and I begged to keep him. He lived for a couple of days. When his eyes opened he died. My parents like to joke that seeing my sister and I staring at him scared him to death.

I have always had pets that like to kill things. My dogs had a thing for porcupines... I recall once while camping, I was woken up out of a dead sleep to help hold our 130lb German Shepard down while my daddy tried to pull out the worst of the quills.

OOH! I made friends with an Akita when I was doing my work placement in the pet shop. She was a rescue dog and super-wary of strangers apparently, but she liked me =3 I said Hi to her, and she sat down right next to me and leant her head against my leg.

I haven't seen her to talk to since, but I did see her out of my window one day so I took a pic :D

My kitten is all black and the neighbors kinda... let her roam free when they moved. With the weather getting cold I asked my mom if i can take her in. She is now sleeping soundly on the couch near me
