Name: Derek Parker
Age: 19
Height: 6'2"
Weight: about 170 lbs.
Body Type: lean with a medium build, toned muscles in arms and legs
Personality: Derek is typically a sociable person, despite his unfortunate circumstances. He's an open, friendly guy with a creative streak and a history of impulsive behavior. He has a good sense of humor, but it has a knack for causing him trouble.
Biography: Born into a family with domestic problems and low income, Derek was raised in a negative environment early-on. His single mother struggled with the daily grind and his father's few visits were never good times. Derek's behavior during his childhood and most of his high school years, however, didn't reflect this. His grades were decent, he had saved up money for attending the local community college, and he aspired to become an automotive technician. He was on his way to making a good life for himself when an unexpected sped bump came in his path- his older brother.
Trevor, with a long history of drug abuse and alcoholism, had found himself in a situation where he was unable to pay off severe debt that had amounted from loans he had taken out from a local crime boss. Facing the punishment that may come from his inability to pay, Trevor reached out to Derek, who stepped up to help Trevor by conducting a series of car boosting escapades. Trevor was off the hook, but the authorities were able to catch Derek in the act one night. He pleaded guilty, admitting that not only was 'grand theft auto' a way to help out his brother, but he also got an unbelievable adrenaline rush out of it, and had he not been caught he may have continued even after paying off his brother's debt. Derek cooperated with the police in compiling a list of names of other men associated with the business, and was dealt a sentence of three years in federal prison. As of now, he's been in the slammer for a total of two miserable months.

It was an early morning for Maria. She had volunteered to work as a nurse at the jail. Many people at the jail did get hurt due to fights that go on. She had the choice of either nursing them in their cell or have them come to a room that was now called the infirmary. Since they had two options the people in charge decided the less dangerous people at the jail would go to the room which was now the infirmary. As for the dangerous criminals, they had to stay in their cell.
Walking down the dark halls of the jail she could see just how dangerous all of them looked. They gave her smirks, taunting laughs. Most people didn't think she should be in a place like this and yet she was. The guards unlocked some of the cells so she could treat the dangerous once first but after that, they retreated to there locked cold cell. While she was in her office which was the infirmary room, she waited for anyone else to come by. At all the times their was a guard but he usually waited outside.

[Oh, that's not sucky. xD I'll give ya somethin' to post about. :D]
A sick, crackling noise reverberated through Derek's head as his jaw hit the grey, unforgiving concrete of the prison cafeteria's floor. He had just been flung halfway across the room, and with the face-first landing, he wasn't faring well. He figured he'd broken multiple bones in the fall, judging by his inability to get up, and his frailty left him wide open for another assault from the other prisoner. Derek was sure he would've died in a moment's notice had guards not rushed he scene. Next thing he knew, he was rolled onto a stretcher and was on his way through the prison carried by two handlers and accompanied by a guard. All he was able to see from where he lay was the ceiling- the same throughout - the same cold concrete as the floor with the occasional dim, ancient lighting fixtures.
It was not long before they arrived at the infirmary, where he was placed onto the cot they had for those criminals who were not considered a direct threat to the nurses and doctors of the facility. The guards who had escorted him alerted the nearest nurse, a beautiful blond woman that sat in the office section of the room, then left the room. Derek lay there quietly, staring up at the ceiling intently as he thought over the brawl that had just happened. It was more of a beating really, Derek couldn't have hoped to measure up to the other guy's strength. He may be known for theft of the highest degree, but violence wasn't his forte.

[thanks :3]
When the young man was in the infirmary she was the only one there in the room. She walked over to him taking his arm in his hand gently seeing if he could bend it or it hurt to bend it. "Does this hurt?" She asked as she slowly bend his arm. If he did say it hurt she then would lay his arm back down to his side. She checked for any broken ribs putting pressure on his chest and stomach if he had any pain there. After doing a full Exam on Derek, Maria began to clean any cuts he had and bandage up any and all of his wounds.
"So How did you get wounded so badly if I may ask." She said her voice sounding very soft but loud enough to be heard. "You can call me Maria by the way." She said with a smile as she bandaged him up. "You don't really seem to be the type to get into fights unless the other person started it." Maria liked talking to her patients while she worked on them to distract them. It usually always worked. "So what's your name? I wouldn't want to call you buy some number like the guards do. To me it doesn't seem right to call a person by a number." She said softly as she finished bandaging up his arm. Some people said Maria looked as beautiful as some famous actress even though she had never acted in her whole entire life. "From all of the prisoners that I had to go to take care of their injuries I think I must say you look less scary then most of them." Said Maria hoping he would take that as A compliment.

[no problem ^^]
Derek's gaze moved from the ceiling to the girl who approached him, his eyes widening a bit in surprise. She looked stunning, to say the least, and it was a huge surprise to see her working in a prison like this. As she bent his arm, he inhaled sharply, "Yeah, a bit," he admitted, chuckling softly. He had slight pain in his stomach, but nothing major, so he relaxed as she continued the exam. Her friendliness astonished him, but he didn't hesitate to return it as he sent her a warm smile, "My name's Derek, nice to meet you."
He watched her bandage him, taking his mind off of the earlier fight, "Well," he laughed softly, "You probably know how the other inmates are... One of them didn't appreciate a joke I made. It's my fault, really," he shrugged slightly then thought about what she said, telling him he wasn't as scary as the others. That was a compliment, he mused, though he found himself hoping that she wasn't afraid of him. As she finished, he relaxed and looked up at her admiringly, "Thank you, I guess," he paused with a warm smile, "I must say that you're the nicest, and prettiest, of the nurses that I've met." That was true, naturally, she was gorgeous and most of the others always seemed to be uninterested in talking to prisoners.

"It wasn't your fault of making a joke. Some people just don't have a sense of humor. But I'm glad someone around a place like this does though." Maria said with a smile. When Maria heard him say she was the prettiest nurse he had ever met her cheeks became a dark shade of pink. "Well thank you." She said with a smile. "Most people wonder why I work in a place like this. I don't really know myself but to me I think I work here because I want to help people. Even if they don't appreciate my kindness." She said with a smile. "To me People deserve a second chance. They deserve to be forgiven for the past and move forward in their life. Most people disagree which I can understand but no one deserves to die even if they have committed sins they didn't plan on committing."
Maria helped Derek sit up a bit having put a pillow behind his back and his head. "I want you to get plenty of rest and don't get in any more fights or well try your best not to so you can heal those injuries of yours. Your injuries aren't severe but I wouldn't want you to make your injuries become serious so try to stay out of trouble." She said with a soft smile. "And If you ever need someone to talk to I'm always a good listener."

Derek watched her thoughtfully, taking in her words with a bit of surprise. She seemed to have a generous nature, and her ability to forgive convicts was astounding to him. "Well, thank you... I'm glad to see that someone thinks that way," he replied with a grin. He then quickly thanks her for helping him sit up, wrinkling his nose a bit playfully as he was told not to fight again. He wasn't one to be fond of being told what to do, but he would surely listen to her, though make a playful gesture at it. "Thanks again, Maria. I'll be sure not to." He made a movement to get off of the bed, but a guard stopped him, "You're staying here for a while, we don't need others to make a target of you. If that's alright with you, ma'am." Derek turned to look at her with an apologetic smile-- he didn't want to be a burden.

"Some people would think I am odd since I think that way. I suppose I see the good in people when people can't because of all the mistakes they've made."Maria told Derek sitting on a stool chair that was next to Derek's bed. "It's no problem. I'm just doing my job and taking care of those who need my help. Be careful to what you say next time. I know how some of the other prisoners here take things personally." Maria said Hearing what the guard said Maria smiled at the guard. "Of course it's alright with me." Maria said her voice very soft and kind. "He is a patient of mine now. I wont have any of my patients become targets and let their injuries become much more serious. Stay as long as you want Derek." She said helping him sit back down on the bed. "While you stay here and heal, do you want me to get you anything? I wouldn't want you to feel uncomfortable."
