Gaia has ponies now.
I bought a Derpy.
And my Gaia avi is cosplaying as Spike from the "PONY.MOV" videos.
This amuses me.
(too bad Fluffle Puff isn't canon. I'd love a Fluffle Puff companion.)

I'm not active on Gaia anymore, but I'm beginning to believe they're selling out. Many lay-offs, insane cash shop prices - they even sold the Angelic Halo for $1000 in the cash shop. I couldn't believe that. After knowing that, I've given up on any chance for them to redeem themselves.

They sound like they are going the way of Tinier Me where TM started insainly hiking up their Gatchapon prices to where people couldn't afford it. Donations stopped and the site went down. Right in the middle of an event too!

Aww. I miss Tinier Me.
I don't know, I mean I still like Gaia. It's one of the sites I hop back and forth from here. The $1000 angelic halo was insane but there were a few people who did buy it for that. If people have that money and don't care to drop it for a pixel item, than little claps for them.
I just don't post on Gaia though. I mostly like selling and buying items. So I'm more of a hermit on there than here.

$1000?! And people actually bought it at that price?
Man, that's insane.
So Gaia's still going strong, then? I haven't been back there in ages and don't know how it's been doing these days.

Not sure whether Gaia is going strong... they maybe flaking in their financial to go against their promise of not re-releasing the Donation Item, Halo.

Greedy.. that is all there is to it. Gaia is greedy. Very much so.
$1000 for that halo is just ridiculous. I knew they were getting greedy and turning into money hogs, but now it is definitely confirmed. D: You know, if Mene wanted to reintroduce the oldest item here they would probably hold a contest, sell it like a usual monthly item, or auction it off through the auctioneer for gold. But not hold it high over every users head for that much money. That's just mean in my opinion.

I don't see what was wrong with the price tag? You have one side saying it's greed and that they went back on their promise, then another side saying it was too much money? The Halo would cost a lot of money regardless, so the price tag seems fitting. And about rereleasing items? Such a silly promise admins make, I swear I wish they would stop doing things like that. Re-releasing is okay if it's controlled, in my opinion. Which it was with that price tag. If it was about greed, wouldn't they priced the halo into something more fitting that a lot of people could buy at once..?
I'm not really active on Gaia anymore, sometimes I check up on it but that's really all.
From what I notice, the staff have been doing better with talking to the community - which is good, when I was active, that was a huge issue there but seems like all kinds of staff members can be more noticeable in their forums.
Overall, Gaia isn't as bad as most people think (same with myself, I was quite the same as most of you years ago), they're doing pretty good for an avatar site and that should be admired considering how many avatar sites end up dead within their first year of opening then the very few that actually even make it past that.

Gaia had always said that there would never be a mass re-release of old MC's, and it has stuck that way. Even with the recent for sale of the original Halo, I would not call it a mass re-release with such a steep price tag. I believe only 17 people bought one at 1 grand. Otherwise, old MC's have been given in single prizes or in recolor versions. I see nothing wrong with that and does not reneg on the original stance.
Gaia has not been without issues. And yes, inflation is an issue, but acquiring nice items on any avy site is always a problem, especially when new. The staff have always been one thing that has kept me around, but with the recent lay-offs and changing with the new CEO, has a long time user in me looking to quit,

Just this week they are selling Baby Seal Slippers for $2,500 in the cash shop.
I used to love Gaia, but I am deeply disappointed with the rate of inflation, mostly how there doesn't seem to be a real effort to slow it, but rather edge it on.
Now I only go on during events or to play zOMG, which needs updating, but after my research I have found that, an update won't be happening anytime soon as developers have left. And knowing some graphic designers, some don't like to work with existing code, so to have it change in anyway would be a large project.

I joined Gaia in 2004 i think, and i stayed there mostly for the roleplay, but as i got older i drifted away because most of the friends i'd made were getting on with their own lives and leaving too. I popped back a couple months ago after a long while, and i couldn't stand the adds endlessly popping up everywhere, which was enough to drive me to go away again.
I don't know much about the Cash Shop, though from what people have said here i think it's a case of greed. I also question the motives of people who'd spend that much real money on a pixel item in the first place. I'd imagine it's more to fit in with the elitists there rather than supporting the site and i can't help but wonder if the powers that caste system of 'valuable items = only people worth talking to' over there for their own gain.

I feel sorry for everyone that bought the halo for $1000, because it was recently "discounted" down to $899.
The cash shop wasn't so horrible at first. For years, it pushed out a lot of quality items at reasonable prices. I really don't to blame the CEO for what's happened to it in recent times, because he kind of inherited a mess from the facebook focused CEO, but he hasn't really been going about it the right way at all. :/
