So. I've got to the point where I'll need to be choosing which subjects to take for my a-levels in a few months. So far I've decided on the main three subjects I want to take, them being Chemistry, Biology and Psychology.

The thing is, I need to choose a fourth subject and I'm stuck between whether to take Art or Textiles. I'm well and truly stuck. I'm not even sure which one may give me more opportunities in the future if I took up that subject.

Anyone take these for a-level and recommend them?
Any ideas?

I think which one will be more useful to you depends on what you want to do in the future. You picked fairly science based courses, so is either textiles or art something you'd like to get more involved in generally?

Personally, i'd go with textiles, as i see it being a creative outlet that may prove more physically useful to you than art. For example, you could make bags or clothes, or things like that, if you were interested in that. My experience of Art at As level, was generally, if you can draw, you will always be able to draw. I didn't really get anything out of it in terms of learning, but that's not to say your college will be the same.

I have several friends who went into an art based course at university, and generally something i noticed, was that even if it isn't a course directly related to what you want to do (assuming your're eventually wanting to go to uni), they look at portfolio work, so which ever you choose, if you incorporate the other into your work a little, or have a private collection of your doodles etc, they'll take all that into consideration. I believe that any job you might want to apply for straight after college would be much the same, if you follow the creative route.

If you really are that unsure though, have a look at open days and try and talk to people who are doing each subject, or maybe both, and see what they think.
The last resort i found with A levels, is putting either one down and trialing it for a couple of weeks, before deciding if you want to swap. Of course then you have to hope that the second option is actually more preferable to the first, but most colleges have this kind of leeway. I know mine did!

Good luck in your pondering though!
