Yeeeeah, Blood is awesome! Why I didn't think of it is beyond me, but one of my favorite games ever. I love classic style FPS games like that.

As other people have said, Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a really atmospheric game. The scarcely lit corridors, twisted enemies and feeling of helplessness that comes with a lack of attack function. Having to think logically whilst under pressure merely adds to the experience. The physics add a sense of realism and the story is great, assuming you find it. Piecing together your past is an interesting way to integrate the story into the game and overall it scared me more than any other game or movie when it came to seeing a demonic being out of the corner of your eye and turning to see nothing there. Or when you open a door to have some monstrosity staring directly at you.

Silent hill series. Silent Hill 2 is the scariest, stupid prison toilets, EVERYTIME. I've played a lot of "horror" games, none are ever as scary. This Amnesia game sounds good though, I might have to try and find it. (:

I'm surprised no one posted Fatal Frame. When ever a ghost appears, I get chills all over my back.
