Who am I?

I'm ChazZ, mother of 3. Animal lover, artist, otaku and messed up in the head. I fell in love with Shin Megami Tensei's Persona game series right away when Revelations came out about a year after I came out of High School. If you're familiar with the game (or if you google it!) you'll see that as an admission of my age. Oh well. ^.^'

My life is complicated by the fact that I was diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder shortly before I turned 18. What this means is that I have multiple personalities. While other people with the same disorder have disliked the Persona game series, the same iconography makes me love it.

While you don't need to know my life story, I think this is pertinent in that I plan on bringing mental disorders into the game as a plot point.

What is Persona?
Shin Megami Tensei is a powerhouse of fantastic games. The Persona series revolves around the knowledge that humans have a tendency to act different depending upon the group of people that they are currently with. These facets of our personality that emerge are like masks we wear to fit in and work with people on a daily basis.

These are personae - the real-life personae.

In the game, certain enlightened individuals become able to call upon legendary characters as aspects of themselves and tap into great power, generally to save the world from some great evil.

I am sad to say that if you are completely unfamiliar with the series, you likely won't be a great fit for this game....
If, however, you have experience with at least one of the games, you should be able to play!

The Game Idea:
* The first thing you need to know is that this game will NOT be based on any one of the previous games *
The reason why I am requiring all the players to have a working knowledge of the games is so they have an idea what the persona system entails.

In this game, Menewshans shall play all-original characters in a light-horror-themed story. Our game will be set in America, so you may play any ethnicity. But you may NOT play one of the characters in any of the Persona games or Persona: Trinity Soul, the Anime.

Anyone who is familiar with Persona 3 (as used in the picture above) is also familiar with the Evoker (the gun-like contraption that the characters in this game used to summon their personae. However, Evokers were actually not used in most of the Persona series. They may be used in our game under certain conditions, as you will see if you continue reading.

I would like all (or most) of the characters to have a serious mental disorder or condition - I will define serious as meaning 'causes significant impact on their daily lives, and can make it difficult to function in "normal" society'.

Some possibilities:

• Dissociative Identity Disorder (I will be playing someone with this disorder, so I will only allow very few - read 1 or 2 - others to have it. This is both for diversity sake and also because DID is pretty rare. This sort of character is also extremely difficult to play, as you have multiple personalities - literally! - to plan out. Even though I have life experience teaching me how this works, I still have only played a character with my disorder only once before.)
• An Autism Spectrum Disorder, such as Asperger Syndrome
• Borderline Personality Disorder
• Schizophrenia

Players are welcome to use their own disorders, if applicable. I will be doing this myself. In either case, I will require the players to keep in mind their character's personalities and difficulties and keep in character at all times. Those that are bringing in an unfamiliar condition for their character will have to do some research so that they can them accurately.

Those that chose a character who does not suffer from a condition like those mentioned above, will have to use an Evoker. Our plot involves that do not have a "neurotypical" mind find it easier to tap into the power of the Persona.

Honesty and respect are forefront in this at all times. This is why I expect players to research the disorders they are representing well. I hope that this game will prove to be very insightful and help everyone understand different people better in the end.

Character Creation Info

• Think about which angle you want to create your character from. Will you have natural Personae summoning ability? Or will you need an evoker? If you are not neurotypical, what is different about you? How did you become like this?
• Come up with an initial persona - either one listed in the previous stories, or another legendary character you have interest in. (If you have trouble with this, I can help you decide or give you one at random from the lists from previous games)
• Decide where you are from, what your age is, what your family is like and your basic background.
• Consider the trademark traits of the Persona game system and rank them for your character in the order that you feel suits them best. (1 - best, 5 - least)

  • Agility
  • Magic
  • Luck
  *Keep in mind that your character's magic score will not come into play until after they have awakened to their Persona ability. And we will be starting this game before this happens.
