Have you read Dragonsdawn and the stories in The Chronicles of Pern: First Fall? I don't have them with me, but I thought there was the implication of a large organization behind the colonization...
Aha! Wikipedia to the rescue. Pern is, indeed, part of the FSP, but way out on the edges. The Wikipedia article considers FSP and the Talents universe to be separate -- which I agree with.
I love canon. :)

lol.
I did read those books, but it was awhile ago.
I guess I just figured it was a different "universe".

Yeah, I always thought it was different until she started weaving them together a little more with the short stories in Chronicles of Pern. And I always feel that the end of The Skies of Pern hints that the Pernese are going to try to travel in space.

It's possible....
But who knows what Todd is going to do with the Pern universe.
I don't think he writes any other novels in her "worlds".

I was always sorry that there weren't more stories in the Rowan universe.
That was such fun!

Yeah, it seemed she kind of copped out at the end with Tower and the Hive, confining the Hivers without ever trying to understand them. Kind of a scary philosophical outlook, if you think about it. She'd set up so many hints earlier in the series that communication might be possible (the women on Deneb reacting; Zara having empathy with the Hiver Queen), but then didn't run with it.
Do you know if her estate has put out an official announcement on fanfic? I know she said it was allowed for Pern within very specific guidelines, but I can't remember if she had a position on her other worlds.

I think one of the books that came after everything happens explains it. I think it's a prequel after the series is wrote. .... Much like those three Star Wars movies that came after the series was finished.
I want to say that it's Dragonflight or something. I don't rightly remember though.

I don't know what her take on fanfic was.
I do know that she very generously worked with younger female writers, helping them.

Oh my! I am sorry to hear a great author has passed away. I did not read any of her books but I will, if I can grab some money. I do hope she rest in peace. It's very sad to hear about an author passing away and leaving the only thing that is memorable, their books.

Though, in a way, it's wonderful that authors and other creative types can leave things behind. Most of us might leave behind children, or family, or memories, but when you create something that millions of other people can experience, that's a wonderful kind of immortality.

I have only read a few of her books. Even though I never really got into them I know my mom did and has a whole collection of her books at home. I'm sad to hear that she passed away and I know she will be really sad to hear that.

You should borrow some from your mother, then! I recommend starting with Restoree or Dragonsong, or if she doesn't has those, then The Rowan or To Ride Pegasus. But really, any of them!

Absolutely one of her finest, I think. I wish she'd continued to use that world -- though she borrowed many of the ideas from Restoree for the series that started with Freedom's Landing (what's that called, anyway? "Freedom" or "Botany" or "Catteni"? It gets so confusing! ^_^; ).

I'm the most familiar with her dragonworld books.
But I like the Rowan world also.
Oh, and Crystal Singers...that was an amazing idea.
