War is upon us and we didn't even see it. Years have past and we have had peas with our brothers the dark elves. The time is now to stand against them. We have to fight if we are to lay claim to what is ours. War will be swift for they will never see it coming, but if even one of use stands with them we shall fall. For with one of our strengths with there's is sign of weakness. Take a side and you better stick with if, for if you don't death will come in a single heart beat.

Spoken by the king in 11 A.D

Lilly was a small girl when the war first broke out. She was only about three hundred in human year. She looked to the forest as the dark elves stormed the castle. They couldn't stand the the knight of the high elves, and since have been trying to win. When Lilly came of age she to joined the Royle arm and swore to keep her people safe. She once had a sister who she loved dearly and vowed to one day get her back.

Maxames was a guard of the Royle dark elf family, but when the dark elf princess was taken away he was banished to the woods never to return. He keep his vows to keep them safe even though he was not welcomed there.

Rose was once a high elf. She was young when the war started and growing up she was always taught that High Elves were good and Dark Elves were evil. She swore to protect her people and her sister from the enemy. But a certain event occured that rocked her beliefs to the core. She ran away to join the enemy. Her enemies were now her people and her people now her enemies. She joined the Dark Elven army and fights for her beliefs, hoping that, one day, she can find and convince her sister to change sides as well.

Lilly took a walk in the forest where her and her sister walked so many years ago. The sound so fermilier, and the feel so inniocent. A single tear fell from her cheek as she though about her sister. Lilly walked along the path as she she did a small yellow bird landed on her shoulder and let out a slit twit. She smiled as she turned around to find one of her knights. "What is the news dear one?" she asked as she ran to his arms. He gently put his arms around her. "Why must you cry when you enter this forest." he said softly as he whipped the tears falling from her cheek. The princess pulled away from him. "I wish not to talk of this, you know why." she said softly looking to the forest. "But your dear sister is not dead." he said as he pulled her back into his arms.

Lilly looked to him. "She minds well be." she spoke softly as she yet again pulled away from his loving hold. "I wish to know how are they?" she asked talking about the elven army. "They stand strong." he said as he took a step towards her. "Now Lilly" he said softly. He reached out for her. "Come now my love lets rest." he said softly to her. She gently embraced him, he could see how tired she was just in her eyes alone. She smiled up at him, "your words ring true my love. Lets rest and leave this till morning." she said softly as she let him lead her to room. When in her room he took her armor off, leaving the white dress that she wore on. He then gently began to rub her shoulders. He then laid her down in her bed. "I will stand guard." he said softly to her. Lilly looked to him. "No come my love rest with me." she said softly as she gently pulled him into her bed. "I need you close." she said softly.

Max keep a close eye on Rose. He found her story a little odd. Why would a high elf who had everything come to a side where they have nothing. he walked to her tent. "My I have a word with you?" he asked hoping that she would spare him just a moment. He was a good judge of character, and would be able to see what she really was like even if she was lying.

Rose's pale blue eyes looked up at Max as he entered her tent. She blinked once and then smiled a small smile. "Of course," she gestured in front of her letting him know he could sit down if he wished to do so. It was no secret, her story. Although she wished that everyone would just forget about her past. She wanted to be unjudged by her new people. But she felt that she had a target on her back.

Rose pulled her long golden tresses into a knot at the bottom of her neck. She glanced at her bow and arrow across the tent and felt for the knife she kept in her boot. She knew of Max even though they seldom spoke to each other after she entered the camp asking to join the army. She wasn't sure if she could trust him...or anyone else for that matter. She kept her knife on her at all times, even while asleep.

"So what can I do for you Max?" she asked, smiling a friendly smile. She couldn't decipher his true purpose for coming to visit her. But she was about to find out.

Max smiled. He had always known that High elves had such beutey, but never had he seen it till now. "I wanted to find out more... about you." he said as he put his bow down and took the knife from his side. He laid it on the table as a sign that he trusted her. "Its all I have I promise. My swords is on the horse." he said softly. "I need help getting back in. As you know I've been banished from the kingdom." he said softly looking to her. "The Queen trust you for what ever reason." he said as he meat her gaze.

"I need to be by the queens side." he said as he looked over her. He long for nothing more then to serve the Royle family. From talking to Rose he could tell that it was what she wanted to. "please do this for me and I will do anything for you." he said firmly. He stood up and put his knife in his pocket and picked up his bow. "Your my only chance back in." he said softly.

Lilly woke up in her lovers arm she gently touched his face. "My love." she said softly. He slowly awoke to her voice. He smiled and softly kissed her. "What is wrong my love?" he asked her. Lilly gently creased his lips with her thumb. "I don't know." she said softly looking into his eyes.

Rose blinked as Max stood and took his weapons in hand. She grabbed his wrist, "Wait!" She dropped his wrist as soon as she touched it, knowing that he may take that as an attack.

"Wait! It's not as if the Queen will listen to me asking her to let a banished elf return! I, I mean I can try but...I can't promise you anything!" Her hair had come undone, tumbling down her back and into her face. She brushed a few stubborn pieces behind her ears as she gazed shyly at the dark elf in front of her. "I...I don't have many friends here....but I joined this place for a reason. I can't go back. I need to know that I can trust someone here...and if that's you, I will be more than happy to help you. I just don't know how I can help unless you have an idea."

She could see Max staring her down. His face was expressionless as he soaked up her words which made her more nervous than she already was.

Max let his knife fall back to the table as her hand touched his wrist. He looked her over again. "I was hoping that you would know the people who took the princess." he said softly looking into her eyes. He looked to the door, he had to go soon, before the sun was up. If he was caught here he would be killed, and it wasn't something he really wanted to happen. "I have to go now, but I will come and find you once it is night." he said as he grabbed his knife, and looks at her once more, something about her was so fimilure, and yet nothing about her really was.

Lilly got out of the bed and walked over to her mirror. "I feel as though I'm going to lose you." she said softly to her lover. He gently came behind her and moved the hair from her neck. He gently kissed her and held her close. "I'm right her, and in battle by your side." he said softly. "I will never leave you my love." he softly whispered into her ear. She softly smiled as she looked into his eyes and kissed him. "I would be so lost with out you." she said softly.

Rose flashed a smile as she nodded her consent to his plans. She would have to give his proposition a thought. Did she have an idea of who took the princess? She would have to think over her past and gather clues during her thoughts. She would have to sit down with him the next night to hear his part of the story. She knew the tales, that an elf has been banished becasue the princess has been lost. But she needed to hear the story from someone close to the source and who better then the source himself.

As Max left her tent she whispered to him, "Be Safe my friend," and she meant it. She had a friend. She had someone she could perhaps trust. She knew that she shouldn't let her guard down so easily but there was just something so familar about him. She wanted to trust him. Every fiber in her being wanted to trust him and she couldn't help it.

She laid down in her bedroll, not so comfortable on the hard ground below her and fell asleep dreaming about Max and trying to remember any clues to help him.

Max watched over Rose as she walked among his people. He could seance that a few of them didn't trust her, but from talking to her he knew that something was different about this high elf. He walked along the edge of the clan in hopes that he would be welcomed in.

The Queen walked into Roses tent. "Hello love." she said softly as she looked at the girl. She put the small dagger that was filled with poison on the table. "We need to talk." she said with a smile. This was the first high elf to join there ranks, and she was the first one to see the Queen. "My dear you've been fighting with us for some time, I came to you to ask what you know of your people." she said as she placed her hand over the dagger.

Lilly looked into the mans eyes and softly smiled, as a few tears came to her eyes. "The dream seemed so real." she spoke ever so softly. She softly creased his cheek as he gently kissed his lip. The tears were now flowing and she was lost in his eyes. He was her first love, and her only love.

Rose had been cleaning her weapons when the Queen had entered her tent. As a sign of respect, she put her weapons away and quickly bowed as low as she could. Rose listened to what the Queen had to say. She knew that something like this would happen eventually. She was once a high elf and because of that, many people thought she would know the battle plans that the high elves had concocted. Worse, many of the dark elves thought that she was spy for the high elves only pretending to have changed sides.

"Your Majesty," Rose began, choosing her words carefully. The poison tipped dagger that accompanied the Queen into her tent did not go unnoticed. "I may once have been a Princess of the High Elves, but I am no longer one. I have rejected that title as you very well know. I do not know much about the battle plans of the High Elves. I am sure that once I became a traitor, any plans that I had knowledge of were changed immediately. So I can not tell you any specific information about any attacks against the Dark Elven People." She noticed that the Queen's brow had slightly furrowed. She did not think that the Queen or anyone else for that matter would completely believe her even if, for some reason, she had been granted the favor of the Queen.

The Queen opened her mouth to speak but Rose shook her head, "Pardon my interuption, my Queen, but there is some information that I CAN tell you." Rose knew the Queen was interested now, as she shut her mouth and nodded her head for Rose to proceed. Rose was treading on dangerous ground. If the information she told the Queen proved to be false, she knew that would be her death warrant.

"The High Elven War Council convenes in a secret part of the Deadwood Forest once a month during the full moon. From here, we would have to travel 20 miles southeast and 20 miles due east from there to reach it. I am not sure if they still convene there. I was a Princess, but I was not that high on the classified information list when I was there to have known about this secret meeting place. They do not know that I know where they meet. The only reason I do know is because I heard my parents talking about it one time in secret. I could lead you there, if you wish, your majesty."

Rose knew that once she gave the Dark Elf Queen this information, she would never be able to go back to the the order of High Elves. She would forever be a traitor to her former people. But oddly enough, she was okay with that.

The queen smiled at the words. She placed her blade in the holster and walked to the door. "If you fail me... you will die." she said as she walked out of the tent. "We go at dusk, for tonight is the first full moon." she said as she walked to the edge of the woods. It was here where she found Max. "I thought you had gone far from her Max." she said with a twisted smile. Max bowed to his Queen even though it wasn't nessasary. "I will protect my people even if I can't join them." He said as he looked to her. The queen just laughed as she walked back towards the dark Castle.

Max looked to Roses tent and wished he could talk to her. He wanted to tell her to be careful when it came to trusting the Queen. There was something off about her. He looked to the guards that graded the area, and he decided to take the chance. He got past them with out detection, and he quietly entered Roses tent. "Rose..." he said softly.

Lilly pulled away from from her lover. "Its almost time for the meeting. its tonight." she said softly as she began to put her armor back on. "I have a bad feeling about this." she said as she looked over at him. He smiled at her and gently caressed her cheek. "the gods have keep us safe so far, what makes you think they'll turn there backs on us now?" he asked as he looked into her eyes.

Rose swung around in surprise. She had been donning her armor and weapons. It wasn't yet dusk be it would be soon enough and she didn't want to look a fool by not being ready.

"Max," she stated in confusion. He wasn't supposed to find her until after it was dark. "Wha-what are you doing here?" she asked but was suddenly grabbed by him. He had her by the arms and he was looked firmly into her eyes, "You shouldn't trust her." Rose swallowed and nodded before he let go of her again. She pretended to straighten her tunic and armor as she collected herself.

"I know. She came in here with her dagger unsheathed. The dagger was poisoned. I know that she uses me. I know that if I fail her, I die, for she told me so from her own lips." Rose was normally very brave; she had betrayed her own people for her beliefs, hadn't she? If she could stand against the entire High Elven nation, why was it that she was so afraid of one Dark Elven Queen. The Queen had silver eyes that just glared death. Rose hated being captured under her Queen's gaze.

"She wants me to take the army to the High Elven War Council meeting that will be occuring tonight. I know the way but if they changed the location, I am dead. And Max, I'm sorry but I haven't had time to really think of how to help you. Maybe I will find some clues at this meeting." Rose blinked, her icy blue eyes looking into his.

"I, I have a bad feeling about tonight. Like, someone I know and trust will be hurt. I can't tell you to stay here but I can tell you to be careful. I don't know if it's going to be you but you're my only friend now."

Max gently let her go. "I'll protect you." he said as he looked into her eyes. "You can't go." he said softly. Max had a feeling that she might die either way. "I want to keep you safe. I figured something out." he said. "something about you and I." he said as he pulled away. "I don't care if you can't help me, but I need to keep you safe." he said softly as he touched her cheek. He then looked to the tent. "There here." he said softly as he snuck out of the tent. He ran back to the forest and watched as the Queen walked into her tent. "I have to keep her safe..." he whispered to himself.

Lilly let her lover put the last bit of armor on her. She looked to him and forced a smile on her face. "I love you." she said softly touching his cheek. "I love you to." he said as he gently brushed her cheek with the back of his hand. "I love you a lot." he said as he kissed her, and pulled her into closer to him. "Shall we be on our way love?" he said as he looked to into her dark green eyes.

Rose had no idea what came over Max although she blushed a deep crimson when he vowed to protect her. Max was her only friend and perhaps, she meant something more to him. But she would have to put off speculating the true nature of their relationship until after the night was over. She might be dead and then it just wouldn't matter.

Rose whispered a soft goodbye as he ran from her tent. She would need to look out for him that night, to make sure he stayed alive. She couldn't shake the feeling of dread that was washing over her.

She finished getting dressed, made sure all her weapons were snug and secure. On her back was her ornate High Elven bow and quiver of ornate arrows, the last thing that connected her to her past. At her side was a sword. In her boot, her dagger, and strapped around her waist, under her tunic, yet another dagger.

She then carefully pulled her hair back. She wore it up during battle, otherwise someone could grab onto it and use it against her. She braided a few long strands in the front and brought it all back to be tied in the back. The tie she used for her hair had small, sharp needles poking out of it so that if someone did try to grab her hair, they would be in for a painful surprise.

She had just finished when she heard the horn calling the army to muster. She exited her tent and fetched her horse. Her horse, named Quenya, was her trusty mount. He was midnight black but for one star shaped patch of white between his eyes. She mounted her horse and rode towards the rest of the army. The Queen, upon seeing her, beckoned her up front to join her.

In her ear, the Queen whispered, "You better not fail me," before turning to the rest of the army and waving for them to pull out.

Lilly took her lover hand and followed close behind. He had been her guard for as long as she could remember, and he was by her side no matter what. He gently squesed her hand. "everything's going to be okay, you'll see love." he said softly. They met up with some of the other guards, and off they went to the darkest part of the High elves forest. They began by talking about there war stratage and how they had to change it.

Max followed close behind the queen, he wasn't going to let anything happen to Rose. If the queen was going to try to kill rose he would kill the queen first. He had the best aim out of all the elves and he knew who Rose really was. He watched as they headed into the dark forest. "Rose." he said softly, he knew she wouldn't be able to hear him, he just wanted to hear her name.

Rose could feel the Queen staring at her as she lead the army towards their destination. As positive as she was that this was what she needed to do, she couldn't help but worry about the bad feeling she had. She prayed that her sister had not risen up in power after Rose left and would be attending this meeting.

It was a long journey, but they were finally arriving at the meeting place. She flashed her hands to halt everyone behind her and the Queen pulled up next to her.

"About half a mile more and we will be there. You are the Queen and your generals know their attack strategy. So from here, I will fall back into line as you lead the attack," Rose stated. She knew that giving the Queen all the credit for the attack would put her in a better position to live if this did work out.

Rose knew that Max had followed her and the army. She hoped that he would be alright during this battle...but she couldn't see him and did not know where he would be so she could protect him.

She heard the Queen's General give the signal to gallop....

"Here goes nothing," Rose muttered as she followed along with everybody, her bow strung and ready to shoot.

Lilly walked with her people as they talked about what to do next. Her lover senced something running threw the forest. "I'll be right back." He whispered into her ear softly. Lilly shook her head. "Please don't go." she said softly back to him, but before she could get out the words he was gone.

Lilly's lover ran along the edge where he spotted a single dark elf. "This was a mistake coming her dark one." he said with a half smile. The High elf silently walked towards the dark elf, as he got his bow ready to shot. He watched the man really closely to see what he was going to do next.

Max could feel the presence of the high elves but what he failed to realize is that one was right on his tail, he looked an saw the man. He drew his knife but it was to late the man had already drew his bow. "I didn't even see you." he said with a smile. The high elf smiled as he drew his bow back and looked at the man. "This is your fate." he said with a smile.

Lilly watched as the dark elves took over there secrete meeting place she grabbed her sword, but it was to late. She looked to the dark elves and saw the elf she once called her sister. "How could you do this to us..." she said. But before she could do anything she was fighting with one of the dark Queens guards.

Rose took in the scene before her. It was chaos at the High Elven War Council. They were completely taken by surprise and they were falling fast. Most were retreating as fast as they could for they knew that if they were all killed or captured, the Dark Elves would win not only the battle, but the war as well.

For one brief moment, Rose locked eyes with her sister. A flood of emotions ran through her. She wasn't supposed to be there but she couldn't protect her anymore. Lilly had grown up and made her own choices as much as Rose had made hers. She wanted to call out to Lilly but before she could do so she heard a familiar voice call out her name.

"Max!" She whispered as she whipped her head to the right towards the voice. She took off towards Max and could see a High Elf barreling towards him, his death certain. Looking back at this moment later, Rose would never understand what came over her. As quick as light, she flashed her bow up and loosed an arrow towards the High Elf. In an instant, the arrow struck the elf square between the eyes and he dropped to the ground in a sea of crimson, dead.

Lilly finally over came the dark elf that was on her. She took her dagger and shoved it in his throat. He coughted a little as the blood tickled down his neck. She turned around to see if she could see her lover, and what she saw was her sister draw back her bow. "No..." she cried out as she ran towards her sister, but she was to late. Lilly watched as the arrow pearsed threw the mans eyes. "Jay..." She cried out. Her whole world going into slow motion as she ran to her lovers side. He gently touched her cheek, but shortly after drew his last breath. "No no no..." she said softly as she rocked back and forth with him in her arms. "You can die..." she said softly. Tears running down her cheeks she looked up at her sister. "How could you." she said softly. Before her sister could even answer Two of the Queens guards snatched Lilly up. The Queen walked up to her and touched her fair skin. "I've waited a long time for this." she said as she motioned her guards to take Lilly away. Lilly tried to fight it, but was to week. "Jay..." she said softly. She was about to be broken Jay had been there her whole life, from a child to the princess he always was. She looked to her sister as they took her away.

Max looked up at Rose. He stood to his feet. "Thank you." he said as he watched the queen take the other girl away. "I'm sorry it had to come to this." he said softly to her as he gently touched her shoulder. "Soon the people will need a new leader." he said as he walked away from her.

Rose didn't know what had happened. She didn't know that her sister was going to be so devestated. She must have know the high elf, she must have been close to him. Tears streamed down Rose's face as the dark elven guards took her sister away. Lilly was the last person she had wanted to hurt. Lilly was innocent, she didn't deserve to be caught up in all this.

Rose was about to go charging after the Queen to demand she let her sister go when she realized Max was talking to her. She suddenly remembered that she had saved him from the high elf. It was either Lilly's friend or hers who would have died in that instant.

And Rose was glad Max was alive.

She wanted Max to stay with her but she knew that he had to leave. She knew that if he stayed with her he would be caught and be in prison alongside her sister. And she couldn't lose them both in one day.

She couldn't remember the rest of the battle after that. Afterwards she was told that 5 of the High Elves had been killed. Two, including her sister, had been captured, and the remaining elves had gotten away. Overall, it was a successful battle.

She had no idea what was going to happen next but she knew that the Queen would, at least, not kill her tonight.

The guards put Lilly in a separate dungon from all the rest of the elves that were in there. The other high elf was placed with the other dark elf prisoners. Lilly drew her legs up to her chest. The two people who she cared most about were now dead to her here. her feet were chained to the floor and her arms were chained to the wall. She looked about to try to find someone, but she was the only one in this dungon, she was finally all alone, though it was nothing she had ever wanted. It was something she always had a nightmare about.

The queen looked at her guards and smiled. "A job well done." she said with a smile. "You may now take your leave. I shall be fine for now." she said with a dark smile. The guards did as she was told. Max snuk in the window. "You as well as I know your not the rightful Queen." he said as he looked at the empty room. She smiled. "but our dear princess was taken so many years ago." she said. Max smiled. "ahh but she's back now." he said with an even greater smile. "And you know that as well as I do. You can feel it, and its only a matter of time before the people feel it to." he said with a smile. The queen called for her guards, but Max was already gone before they were there.

Max went to Roses tent and looked to her. "Are you going to be okay?" he asked knowing that the princess was really close to Rose. "Was that your sister in the forest." he as gently looking into her blue eyes. He wanted to be there for her if she needed it.

Rose was staring blankly in the darkness of her tent. She hadn't bothered to start a fire or light a lantern when she returned. She sat, still clothed in her armor, weapons still strapped to her body. When Max entered the tent, she looked up at him, capturing his eyes with her own, hurriedly wiping away her tears.

She was supposed to be this tough, brave traitor. She wasn't supposed to cry. "I'm sorry," she stated as he moved to sit next to her. "Lilly is the one part of my past that I would love to change. She means the world to me and I wished she had come with me," she sighed.

Rose's hair was a tangled mess on her head for she hadn't bothered to untie it when she got home either. Just then, her belly growled in hunger. Ignoring it, she turned to Max, "What do you think the Queen will do to her? Will she hurt Lilly?"

Max Stood up and started a fire. "you'll freeze if you don't have a fire." he said as he looked to her. "I'm sorry about your sister she might not have been excepted like you are." he said as he looked to the flames. "I'm not sure what she'll do. The queen has been known to be a bit evil." He said softly. He walked over to her and sat beside her. He gently let her hair down. "Let me help you with your armor." he said, as he began to unstrap her armor. "I heard from a guard that the other high elf is going to be put to death." he said softly, but I think the queen would rather have your sister as a slave." he said as he finished the best plate. He then moved to her legs. "I think she'll be safe as long as she does what she is told." he said.

Lilly was left in the dark. She longed for the light, and as she did some guards with the queen came down to her. "she looked at them and didn't say a word. They had striped her of her armor, and instead of letting her keep her white dress they put her in rags. The queen didn't say a word she just smiled at the view of a lonely little elf.

Rose nodded gratefully as Max helped her undress her armor and weapons. She was so weary, emotionally and physically. She didn't think she could handle any more surprises in one day. Already, she was hatching plans to try to rescue her sister. Even if she couldn't convince her that the High Elves were the real enemy, she could at least get her sister free from any harm the Queen or the Dark Elves might cause her.

Her loyalties were to the Dark Elves but she just couldn't let her sister suffer. When they were younger, Lilly had always been the tough one and Rose had been the quiet and meek one. Lilly protected her as they grew up. Rose didn't remember falling asleep but she must have done so while sitting up and Max still undressing her. In her dreams, she dreamed of Lilly.

"Hey you! You dumb elf! Why don't you just quit school and go wander off in the forest and die. That's all you're ever going to be good at!" The young elves taunted Rose. She remembered this event clearly. They were still young, children. And her schoolmates always picked on her because she was so quiet. Rose just hung her head and tried to walk away. One of the young elves grabbed her wrist to prevent her from doing so. Rose couldn't break free and all she could see were the wicked grins of her peers.

Just then, the elf holding her wrist dropped to the ground. He had been hit with a rock on the back of the head. Lilly came charging towards them and the other young elves scattered away.

"That's right! Don't pick on my sister!!!!" She yelled after them. She then turned to Rose and made sure they hadn't done any real damage before stating, "You really need to stand up for yourself Rose. Stand up for yourself and what you believe! I can't always be here to save you!"

Rose woke, startled. She was laying down now, covered in a blanket and still in her clothing from earlier sans her armor and weapons. Max was sitting by the fire, his eyes aglow from the warm light.

"I'm sorry...was I out for long?" She inquired. Max simply shook his head, "No, but you needed the rest. Even if it was short." Rose had half-expected him to have left while she was asleep.

"So, did you...find any useful information to help yourself at the battle?" Rose asked him, blinking sleep out of her icy blue eyes.

Max smiled as he stoked the fire, he then walked over to the edge of her bed and looked at her. "No I didn't, but soon it won't matter." he said softly as he looked down at her. He was glad to have meet her and he knew what she was. "Do you remember anything before having Lilly as your sister?" he asked hoping that something in her wold be triggered. Max and the queen both knew who she was, and he was ready to kill for the rightful Queen. Max gently placed her hand in his, "There's something I need to tell you." he said softly as he looked into her eyes and softly smiled.

Lilly looked to the queen. "Why are you doing this? Your not going to get anything out of me." she said as she spat at the queen. The queens smile faded as she whipped the spit from her face. She let out a growl and then back handed the little princess. Lilly smiled. "It nice to finally get a reaction out of you." she said as her eyes softly glowed in the dark. "My people with come for me." she said as she closed her eyes. When she did close her eyes the image of her lover being slane came back to her. Tears filled her eyes as she tried to force the memories from her head. The Queen smiled and took a few steps back. "Guards have your way with her... I have no use for such a soul." she said as she walked out of the dungeon. The guards where going to do just that. They smiled at the beauty of the high elf.
