"Making the tea." Jeane smiled a little, still unnerved. "I was thinking of making chai from scratch." Because that was a bit more involved than just making normal tea and would distract her for longer.

Khalid nodded. She figured that was the case.

"Everything you need should be in the kitchen," she replied. "Let me know if something isn't, and you'll have it." Standing up, she settled Alexander against her shoulder. The boy made little noises in his sleep, but didn't wake up. "I'm going to put him in his room."

"Okay. Take as much time as you need." Jeane moved into the kitchen, starting to get things out so she could make the tea. And then she texted Robin while she waited for things to simmer properly. Which ended up with him calling her.

"Okay, how did you know he knew that?" Robin demanded. "You haven't been talking to the other pucks, have you?"

"No," Jeane said, sounding very small. "I knew. Robin, Khalid was singing to Alexander in her language, and I knew."

Robin started swearing colorfully and violently in at least three languages. Which got the attention of probably half the bar until he started glaring them all away.

Khalid walked back into the room in time to hear the colorful swearing. She understood most of it, although Robin did lapse into a language she wasn't fluent in, but she could tell by the look on Jeane's face that the historian was understanding almost all of it.

"Robin, stop talking about goats and gods and start talking." Now Jeane was sounding just this side of really panicked.

"I wasn't sure if you'd get that effect or not," Robin admitted grudgingly, still grumbling to himself. "It happens sometimes with what you went through. Not all the time, but sometimes."

"What happens?"

"You took his life, now you're absorbing his knowledge, too."

Khalid watched as Jeane blanched a bit, and took the phone from her gently.

"Explain to me what's going on," she said to her puck. "Jeane is a little... unsettled."

"Jeane's absorbing the puck's knowledge. Everything he knew, all the languages, all the information... If she's already started, she's got maybe a year before she knows everything." Robin shrugged. "I'd get her lots of tea and a ton of aspirin if I were you, love."

"She's distracting herself with making chai right now," Khalid replied. She sighed a bit. "I'll make sure she's alright."

"Good. You need me to head back? I can see if I can help." Because Robin knew that Jeane was likely to freak out more than once over this whole thing. And hopefully she wouldn't inherit the puck's memories too, for her sake.

"I can look after her for now," Khalid replied. "Making chai and playing with Alexander for a while later will distract her well enough. No need to interrupt your peri-watching." Okay, she couldn't resist that little tease, only because she knew she was right. And if he wasn't ogling Ishiah, then he was probably at the car lot getting people to sell their souls, and there was no real way to tease about that.

Robin snickered. "Yes, I know. It is fun to watch the peri, you must admit." He grinned when Ishiah gave him a droll look and then went back to work. "Let me know if you need anything else."

Khalid rolled her eyes.

"I'll let you know," she said. "Try not to get distracted with Ish on your way home tonight."

"Oh don't worry," Robin said cheerfully. "We're waiting to get home, and then we're going to distract you."

Khalid snorted a bit. She could just hear the leering grin on his face.

"You keep planning that," she replied. "I'm going to go keep an eye on Jeane."

"Alright. Let me know if I need to drag Cal over there to carry her home." Robin grinned and hung up.

Jeane had managed to find somewhere to sit, her head still all knotted up over the implications of what Robin had said.

Once she hung up, Khalid went to sit next to Jeane.

"You'll be alright," she said softly. She put an arm around Jeane's shoulders.

Jeane leaned against her side, staying quiet for a few long moments.

"This wasn't supposed to happen. I wasn't supposed to be able to know everything he knew. I mean, what if I start getting his memories too or something?"

"Robin doesn't think it will go that far," Khalid replied, keeping her arm around Jeane. "Memories are personal. Knowledge isn't."

"But this still makes no sense." Jeane looked at her, looking more than a little lost. She had not been prepared to deal with this.

"Anyone can have the same knowledge," Khalid explained gently. "Any number of people can learn a language, for instance. Knowledge like that is designed to be shared. But memories are personal, unique to the individual. No two people can have the exact same memory of an event, it just doesn't work that way."

Jeane nodded after a moment. She felt a little better at that, but not much. She was still too freaked out to really be okay with any of this.

"Relax and enjoy your chai," Khalid said softly. "Robin and Ish won't be home for a while, and Alexander should be napping for a little while yet as well."

Jeane nodded but didn't make a move to get up and finish making the chai just yet. She was still a little too out of sorts.

And not looking forward to telling Cal. At all.

Khalid let her sit there for a little while, just offering comfort.

"You're going to be one hell of a historian now, you know that," she teased gently.

Jeane laughed a little. "Yeah. I'll be able to translate those ancient texts with no problem now." Her smile slid a little, but she was a little more comfortable now.
