I mean, if a friend comes up to you and tells you you can never ever ever have any other friends ever, JUST them, forever, or they'd leave, you'd consider them a really shitty friend and not exactly be too bummed when they did leave, right?

...well, basically, we apply the same standard to other relationships as well, besides the "shitty partner" thing because most people just aren't used to the idea (though we do, in some ways, apply it to ourselves).

@ Stel - Yeah... it's more about being loyal than being together with JUST them. Though after my divorce I may be a lot more strict about it. Though thankfully I'm a rare exception for my current partner in the romance department.
