That's not shading that is just coloring. Shading in art depends on the light source.
You have shadows from wrinkles/folds of the clothing and where they lie and you have highlights also.
I am a digital artist. I do pixel art mostly but I am only good with hair.

Yeah I have. I know what the tutorials tell me but I just can't seem to do it.

Is it possible to get a new random word to assassinate my target with? They never say it, and I've tried really hard to lead them into it. But they never bite.

Well I am just not sure how to. I understand what folds, wrinkles in clothes, shadows and high lights are in the clothes. But when I try to do them myself it just looks very wrong or off.
I have never been good when i comes to shading clothes. I try different shading styles but I never really learned any.
None of my WIP's have any folds in clothes. All my WIP's have finished hair and no clothes. XD

Could it all be just... self conscious? like... artist are always more aware of their own artwork than other people's artwork. As in, they would feel something is wrong/weird...?

I don't know. But when I try shading and all of that jazz it always is off.
But I am testing if it is just self consciousness. I am making a doll of my character Scarlet.
She wears a plum ball-like dress and she is a neko.
So if this doesn't go well not sure what I will do. Probably keep trying. xD

Did anybody else you show the art too said that something wrong is with your shading?

They usually say add more contrast or add more shadows or high lights
but I don't practice a lot so that is also a big pointer to why
I am so terrible at clothes. XD
I am mostly good with hair but since I have 11 commissions that should give me enough practice.

I hope you'll work something out, Desi! Sometimes it's just nitpicking but I understand that we are always the hardest on ourselves.

That is awful lot! I am already feeling 'pressure' and embarrassed when I have 3!

It's just hard to know if I am a bad or good artist as no one really gives me CC >.<

@Desi: Alright, I looked upon your deviant art and find that you may want to work on just starting to do a naked-ish, bald doll and then 'cover' it instead of drawing on it, if that makes sense. Like hair is supposed to have volume and clothes, no matter how skintight always have at least a fine layer separating it from the skin. Does that help?

You color well, however, and your lines are clean so I would just work on that and as for shades, pick a source of light and picture how it would affect your doll.

I already know all of that.
