She had to admit, Charles had done his best to make this experience rather romantic, candles lit all around them, the smell of lavender and cinnamon in the air. But she wasn't sure how much success they would have at trying to gain control over her power.

The whole idea made her rather nervous. She didn't like doing it in front of people and the last couple of times she'd punched or karaoke chopped Charles over a table being controlled by one of the first female wrestlers.

They sat cross legged on fluffy pillows on the floor.

"I dunno about this..."

Charles just patted her hand comfortingly, "Trust me. The only way to learn to control your ability, is to use it. If you hide from it your whole life, it will only chase you. Now, do as I do" he sat cross-legged on the pillow, taking a somewhat meditative stance and breathed deeply.

She was a little doubtful, she'd tried getting a hang of it before but nothing seemed to help. "Alright..." She followed suit and breathed deeply.

"In the past, when the others come forward, your mind seems to retreat" Charles observed, "I think it is because you are trying to protect yourself from the unknown. This time however, I'll be here with you. I will use my own ability to stay connected to you and we can face the other one together. In time this will help you learn how to do it on your own. Now, try to relax." he told her gently as he began to creep into her mind. It was as though he was wrapping his arms around her consciousness to protect her while inviting the presence of someone else.

The feeling of another person in her mind was rather odd and over the next 10 mins Violet got more and more uncomfortable. She felt like it was getting harder and harder to breath. "No. I can't-" Violet threw her hands up in the air, opening her eyes.

And that's when she was them, her eyes widened as she stumbled back into the wall. Translucent people, walking throughout the room as if there were no walls. "Ohmygodohmygodohmygod..." She panted heavily. Her eyes fixed on a figure behind Charles. A woman, with a short red haired bob and an unmistakable yellow outfit.

"Violet-Violet" Charles called, trying to get her attention on him again, "Breathe, in and out. Try to relax, I'm here with you."

"It's her! It's her!" Violet couldn't take her eyes off of the girl. She was starting to hyperventilate. The girl was smiling down at Charles, her hair flowing lightly in an invisible wind.

"Woah, woah" Charles moved forward, cupping Violet's face in his hands, "calm down, show me what you see" he looked into her eyes, connecting to her mind to see what was happened through her eyes.

Charles had just enough time to see Jeanie wave before Violet's powers switched off as she finally broke eye contact and focused on Charles.

Violet steadied her breathing, staring into his eyes, her hand clutching and unclutching the fabric on his shoulder. "Charles!" She wrapped her arms around him and held tightly. "There was so many of them..." She whispered, terrified.

Charles was a bit startled at what he saw but he didn't let it show. He stroked Violet's hair, trying to calm her, "it's alright, see? Everything's okay"

"That's never happened before..." She sat there for a good while, feeling rather drained from the experience. Her breathing slowed down to match Charles, her cheeks flushed. He smelt nice.

"Well, that's what happens when you try something new" Charles replied, "new things happen."

"T-Thank you for helping me try something new..." She looked deep into his eyes, "Has..anyone told you your eyes look as deep as a solar system?-...That came out wrong.."

Charles just chuckled a little, "I've never heard it put quite that way, no. Though I understand your meaning"

She looked away, rubbing her arm. "Sorry, I'm a little out of it... I'm think I'm done for now."

"That's alright" Charles assured her, "we can try again later. In the mean time, care to grab a bite to eat?"

"Yeah... I'd like that." She got up. "I still can't believe how nice your place looks." She commenilmented.

"Well, I had a little help" Charles smiled, "I hear sushi is a big thing with kids-or, people, just y'know, these days, people our age I guess... I've never really given it a shot. What do you think?"

She rocked on her heels and smiled, "To tell you the truth... I haven't tried it either. Shall we try something new together?" She asked holding her hand out.

"Excellent" Charles agreed, leading the way out.

"Why thank you." She said as he held the door for her. She rather liked being treated this way. She'd had a few relationships in the past but none of them treated her so welly. He was such a gentleman. From holding the door open, to getting up when she entered a room. She felt almost like a princess. It really threw her for a loop how being so close to him got her all a flutter. Something she was not in anyway use to.

They held hands as they took the bus and walked downtown. But as they headed down, Violet was seeing people that Charles couldn't. It wasn't till Violet stopped walking and started talking to a pole that Charles knew something was up.

"Excuse me..." A larger man with floral printed shirt and a pair of sunglasses on his head. "Can you help me? I'm lost."

Violet stopped and turned, still holding onto Charles' hand, "Sure, where are you trying to go?"

The man scratched his head, "I'm trying to find Miller street."

"Oh, you're not far off." She let go of Charles' hand and pointed down the street, "You're just two blocks off. Head down Aperture St. for two blocks and you're there."

Charles blinked, looking at Violet and then where she was directing her attention, "... Violet" he spoke curiously, "would you mind if I tried to see through your eyes again?"

Violet looked at Charles oddly, "Umm... Sure I guess." As soon as Charles entered her mind, a flew of people who hadn't been on the street before appeared. But there was something different to them... They slightly shimmered when they moved.

Violet turned back to the man.

"Thank you. I'm already late. Jen will have my head for being late again."
"Not a problem."
"Good-by-..." All the shimmering people paused what they were doing and stared at Charles. "Oi, where did he come from?" The floral shirted man asked.

Violet tilted her head, "What do you mean? I was walking with Charles when you stopped us."
"No he wasn't. He just appeared. Like magic."

"I've just connected to Violet's mind" Charles explained, greeting him, "I suppose that now I can see you and so you can see me."

The man looked oddly at them, "Mutants huh? Well, thank you for the directions." And off he went.

Violet turned and blinked, "You couldn't seem him till you linked into my mind?"
