Always girls. Mostly because i envisage myself in the game, so it's more apt for me to play as a female.

I do like playing my own gender. These results make me laugh though, apparently there's more gamer girls out there than popular culture seems to believe! haha!

im a girl that chooses to play as girls, i like having something nice to look at while gaming.^-^lol
i typically choose somethign other then humans though. elves are so much more pretty. but i dont always have to go for something that attractive...like guild wars 2 im gonna have an female elemental but also a female charr, they are sooooo cool looking.^-^
so i guess you could say i pick females characters that are badass/sexy/ cool all in one.^-^
and yes i love skimpy outfits for my characters, but there is nothing wrong with having fullplate with spikeys and blood drips off of it.;3

It depends on the game. If its the guy version I have no choice and if its the girl version same option. However, if there is a guy and a girl option I make one of each. So to see how the game flows though out the game play.

I always play as a female character if given the choice. I am a female and I want to play as a female. Plus, they're hot. Why would I want to be some burly man or a girlie boi when I can be a sexy female that usually has huge knockers and a nice butt. It's just more visually appealing. Plus, girl power! Nothing like kicking butt in a game being a girl and playing a girl.
Games that don't let the player choose the gender turn me off. Now I know older games it's just how they are and some games you play a male because that's just the focus of the story but in games where it can obviously be an option and isn't annoy me. Like TF2, fun game but all men...

I'm a boy, and I think it's purty awkward to be playing as the opposite gender. I can see why some people do it, but I think it's still weird. So yeah, I play as a male.

I'm a girl, and generally I stick with a female character. I like pretend to be part of the world as I play my games, so I try to dress my characters after me. Sometimes I just like dressing them up pretty and cute and seeing how well-dressed I can make them, but I mostly just try to make it look like me ((Or at least how I wish I looked XD)).
However, there is a random exception:
I will occasionally make male characters based on characters from other series I like ((Hetalia characters, Professor Layton characters, Sherlock characters, Kuroshitsuji characters, etc.))
There was also that one time I made a character in this one gangster game that looked like Piers Morgan, which was all kinds of funny XD
So over all, I'll say it depends. I mostly go with a girl, but I'll pick a boy any time I feel like I need a little change

I'm a girl, and I definitely lean towards female characters when the option's available, but I'm not that picky, so if it affects the stats I'll make my decision based off that (which usually means male). And I prefer single-player games; if it was for a multi-player game, I'd probably choose a male character unless I was sure the other players would leave me alone as a female.

I'm a girl and I always go for males first.
If I replay the game i'll end up making a female eventually, but always male first!

Depends on how the character looks. If the male character is hotter, I'll play as him. If the female character is hotter, I'll play as her. If I do pick female though, she has to be super bad-ass. I can't stand weak female characters.

If it's a solo RPG (Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout, etc) I have a tendency to go female. I always feel like the male character's customization options took a back seat to the females, and due to my personality I want to twist and tweak everything I can do to take the character I've thought of my head and "put on paper."

If I can I usually play a female, I have no problem playing a game that doesn't allow character customization though. In fact I'm an Assassin's Creed addict XD.

Normally the only games where I get to pick are Pokemon-related, but I like to play as the male, me being a male and all. But if I ever nab Skyrim, I will play as the female.

It all depends on what I'm playing.
If it's a fighting game, I'll go with what character I'm best as, regardless of gender.
If it's an MMORPG, I'll go with whichever gender has features I like more (I'll play fem in most any MMO but in SMT: Imagine I roll dude because I think they have a cooler outfit design.)
And with games where you can't customize your character, I'll just go with whichever character has the better design.

For me, I actually play evenly. Seriously. If in one game I was a male I'd play a female in the next. I dunno why but I try to keep things balanced, like if there's not enough guys in the game I will play as one of the dudes. Soooo yea.

I usually play as a male, and I'm the opposite. I just like to xD Sometimes it's cause I don't like the way the girls are dressed, other times it's for the guy eyecandy LOL. Plus, I'm a girl every day of my life. It's fun to (when there's the option) choose being a male instead of defaulting to female.

I'm female and I've been choosing male character more because I've always chosen female characters. I'm pretty bored of having same gender characters sometimes. I do whatever I feel like at the moment of character creation.

A lot of the time, I choose to play as a female character. I'm a girl, and a lot of the games I play tend to limit you to playing as a male, so when I have the option, I play as a girl. :)

I play females whenever they're available. Gender locks annoy me, though mostly on MMOs. For console games I don't mind (if it bothered me that much I wouldn't be able to play more than half of what I like). Though a couple times I did purposely make a male character due to boredom. It also depends on the class, possibly...
The example of what I mean I guess is when I played Trickster. Between the two magic classes (represented by animals or something) are female 'sheep' or male 'dragons'. The female one looked cute and all, but, come on... dragon wins. It never caused any awkwardness since whenever I did find interaction they easily guessed I was female, so I guess a lot of girls liked the dragon better.
