I think Melody, what would happen is that a person steadily looses a little hope in actually getting a job resulting in putting out applications less, etc.. But that's just IMO.

@Serenus: Yeah i know how you feel. I started going a little stir crazy with not being able to keep busy. But then again i've been stuck at home a lot. I don't have a college degree though and not much work experience. I haven't really decided on what i want to go to college for and i'm kind of terrified that i won't be able to handle college as i slacked off in high school a bit. Considering trying to go to college within the next year or so though. It'll be a bit late considering most people go right after high school and here i am 22 and don't have a degree but i was always told i would make more money with a college degree.
@Projectwolfie: I know i get really discouraged when i'm applying for jobs and continuously don't hear back from them but then again the results vary depending on if you call the places after you apply. Sometimes it's useless to call back and sometimes it helps. I've called a couple places back after applying and it didn't necessarily get me the job like i've been told it would. And sometimes it's just about timing. Wrong timing in applying for that job. Maybe they've already gone through the interviewing process and hired someone.

It's never a bad time to go to school actually.
I had tons of friends that were older than me that went to college. I knew a lady who was in her 60's!
You know getting a degree is just something under your belt. When the economy picks back up again it will be something great to have.

I've been thinking about applying to this college nearby. But i'm under 24 so needing my parents tax information has been a huge hassle for me. My dad has the ability to take forever to do things that really need to be done. So this simple act of helping me fill out my FAFSA has been procrastinated three months already.
Now if we could get on the same page for once then i would gladly be able to apply both for my financial aid and this college.

I understand the frustrations that everyone feels, believe me. I was just recently laid off and have been searching for a job since, even going back to ones that I've applied to before to see if they have other openings. It gets harder as time goes by because employers could (not that I agree with it or believe that they should be looking at it this way) see it as what in the world has this person been doing during this timeframe, or see it that the potential employee has been goofing off. I don't know. I know in between searchings and the interviews, and stuff, I'm working at getting myself back in shape.
I'm glad you found a job Literally. There is one more place that I haven't seen mentioned yet. I know where I live, they have a one stop center, where one can look for jobs and help for resumes and that kind of thing. I'm not sure other places have it as well, but it's worth a look.

The job stinks. :(
It's super tiring and there's never enough people there. People are always impatient.
We're understaffed so alot of the times we're not up to speed on the orders. We're supposed to be under a certain time but it's hard when you're understaffed.
That and i don't get a break for nothing. 7-9 hours on my feet.

Believe me, I know exactly how you feel. At one of my previous jobs it was the same thing. At least you have a job, and you can still search for another, if need be.

I have been searching for a job for what feels like forever, and have had no luck. I have had a few interviews, but the places always end up hiring someone else. Someone once told me that they would call me back in another week, but never did. That kind of ticked me off a little, as I would have liked for them to have kept to their word. I mean they could have at least called to tell me that they had found someone else. I don't know, I guess I just don't like when someone tells me that they're going to do something and then never do it.
Anyways, job hunting stinks. I don't know how many applications I have filled out, only to remain unemployed. It can be very discouraging in the long run. Luckily I am also going to college, so I have plenty to keep me busy. At least I can train for a future career.

I hear you on that. I'd get some promising leads, but they always hire someone else. I know how you feel about someone telling you if you got the job or not. If you don't hear from someone, you'd think you still have a shot.

I'm going through the job search thing myself, and it's difficult not get disheartened. I was attending college, but
dropped out last semester because I couldn't justify the financial strain when I wasn't doing very well, and I wasn't sure
what I wanted to do. It just wasn't worth it anymore. It's times like this, when I'm struggling to find a job, that I almost
wish I hadn't dropped out, even though I know it was for the best. I've been thinking about doing some volunteer work
though, and I think I'm getting on the right track with the job search. There is a workforce center here that provides resources
such as job postings, classes, and resume help that I'm taking advantage of. It's getting really difficult financially wise, so I'm
hoping I can get something soon. I really am desperate.

I got super lucky awhile ago, and managed to sneak my way into a program at the YMCA - Youth Employment Program... I didn't really fit their demographic, but because of the area I lived in they let me in! [Kind of offensive, as I'm surrounded by subsidized living apartments.... xD] Basically, it was the tester for the program. I have no idea where they get the money - but they find you a summer job or 'apprenticeship' and THEY pay you to work somewhere else. My employer liked me, so they hired me on afterwards - I even got a raise... But that's because I always try go above and beyond what is expected of me.
But I find employment centers really helpful - if you have any in your area! They can get you any certification you need [Like Smart Serve so you can be a server! Or food-handlers, which makes you more likely to get a job in a restaurant!] <-- Really helpful in my opinion.
They also tend to help with resumes, and always have a list of job opportunities that are open at the time.
...Though, once I go to University I'm unsure of what to expect... I'm going into Nursing, and I hope that by the time I'm done it'll still be in high-demand. From what I've heard, PSW's are also in high demand, and after my first year of nursing I can be certified as one so I can work part-time while I'm in school.... The whole thing just seems to...daunting, as all I've done so far are the usually babysitting/yardwork jobs along with making salads at a restaurant. :X
But good luck to everyone! Hope you all find a job that you don't hate! :]

Yes, employment centers are very helpful, as well as certifications. I don't know if it's only in my state but there
is something that is kind of like a SAT or ACT but for job hunters/employees that highlights their skills so that they
can present a certificate to the interviewer. The workforce center also lets you put your resume on their site so if an
employer is searching for certain skills, your resume will come up. :3
