Kaladin shrugged. "I can go with you. I've fed the snakes already, and their cage is clean. I was going to see if anyone else needed help or just go sit with the snakes for a while."
Honestly he hadn't had anything planned, and he hadn't been she'd want him to go with her, since he was just an employee.

"Are you sure?" Hazel asked. "I don't want to pull you away if you still have things you need to do. It's just hard to fit a suit if you're not there, if we manage to find one. And I thought, since I need to get my gown anyway, maybe we could take a look." She was assuming things all over the place, she knew, especially using the word 'we', but she couldn't help it.

Kaladin paused to consider what he had to do before he shook his head. "As long as we come back at least briefly before the party then I will be able to accompany you."

Hazel nodded. She could make sure that happened.
"Of course," she said. She would have to go back to the manor, anyways, to get ready herself. A ball gown wasn't easy to put on by yourself, she knew from experience.

Kaladin nodded. "Alright. Let me go change and then I'll be ready to leave when you are." He could walk around in the suit, but he'd prefer not to.

Hazel nodded and let him go. Gathering her things, she went and put them into the carriage. She'd already warned her driver to be there early, and he was there waiting when she went outside.

Kaladin got back into his normal clothes, albeit a clean set, and went outside to join her in the carriage. He had to think for a moment before getting into the cab with her. He was used to sitting up front.

Hazel hadn't thought twice about him being in the cab with her. Once the door was closed, she signaled to her driver to take them into town, automatically bracing herself for the small lurch as the carriage started moving.
"It shouldn't take us too long to get there," she commented to Kaladin.

Kaladin nodded. "That's fine," he said quietly. He looked out the window, watching things go by. It still felt odd to be in the cab, but he didn't say anything.
"What time are you supposed to arrive at the party?"

"Half an hour after sunset," Hazel replied as she picked at a stray thread on her skirt. She was used to carriage rides being a bit boring, but this one would be thankfully short.

Kaladin nodded. That gave them plenty of time to go out and get whatever she needed and then get back so he could get ready and check on the snakes again.

The carriage stopped a few minutes later, and the driver came around to open the door. Hazel was ready to get out of the carriage when the door opened and stepped down to the ground, one hand holding her skirts just slightly off the ground. Then she turned and waited for Kaladin.

Kaladin got down awkwardly, nodding to the man before looking at Hazel for instruction. This was her territory, not his, and he had no clue where they were going.

Once he was with her, she turned and went into the shop that the seamstress ran.
"Ah! Miss d'Loncré!" The seamstress said as Hazel walked in. "Come for your gown?"
"I have," Hazel replied. "Is it ready?"
"It is!" the seamstress replied. Going over, she pulled down a bag hanging from a hook on the wall. "It is perfect!"
"I'm sure it is," Hazel replied, smiling. "You haven't let me down yet." Pulling out her purse, she rummaged around in it for the money when she noticed a nice-looking suit on a mannequin. She went over to it. It was a nice suit, of good quality, and it looked like it might fit Kaladin.
"Ah," the seamstress said, "That was commissioned and then abandoned." She glanced from Hazel to Kaladin and back. "If I may presume that the young man is your escort, Miss d'Loncré?"

Kaladin looked at the seamstress briefly before he nodded. He moved over to the suit, looking at it briefly. It looked nice, and was probably more comfortable than his current suit. But he didn't say anything, letting Hazel make the decisions.

"It would look wonderful," the seamstress said. She gestured to it. "Would the young master like to try it on?"
Hazel looked between Kaladin and the suit, before nodding.
"I want to see it, at least," she said. The seamstress nodded and took the suit from the mannequin before handing it to Kaladin and steering him towards a curtained alcove to try it on.

Kaladin let himself be steered along, waiting until the curtain was shut before he stripped and pulled the suit on carefully. The arms were a little long, and the pants were the tiniest bit short, but it fit fairly well otherwise. He pulled back the curtain and moved out of the alcove for the ladies to inspect him.

"Oh very nice," the seamstress gushed as she turned him this way and that. "Very nice, it only needs minimal changes."
Hazel nodded as she looked him over critically. It looked much nicer than the other suit. After a moment, she nodded.
"I like it," she said. She looked at Kaladin. "What about you?"

Kaladin considered carefully for a few moments. "It's nice," he said after a moment. "A little more comfortable than my other suit." Which was true. This one fit him a little better, except for the minor changes that needed to be made. But it was also higher quality material, which felt much nicer against his skin.

Hazel nodded again, which the seamstress took as her cue. She ushered Kaladin up onto a stool and immediately set about altering the suit.
"You'll be wanting this for tonight, right Miss d'Loncré?" she asked as she let out the hems and adjusted them for Kaladin's proportions.
"Right," Hazel replied. She was already sifting around in her purse again. She didn't mind getting the suit this time; it was nice, and it would be just fine for the party.

Kaladin stood there, watching the pointy ends of the pins. He could work with just about any creature, but get him near pins or needles or anything small and pointy and he headed for the hills. But he made himself hold still, clearly wary.

Once the hems and sleeves were pinned properly, as well as a couple of seams on the sides of the jacket, the seamstress had him step down again and pointed to the changing area again. She couldn't sew them while he was wearing them, and she wanted to get them done quickly so that Hazel could take them along with the gown.

The seamstress waved a hand at them.
"Go," she said as she sifted through her spools of thread for the perfect shade. "Come back in an hour or so, it will be ready then." And it would be done right, or else she couldn't call herself a seamstress.
Hazel nodded, although she hadn't planned on having an hour to kill. She turned to Kaladin.
"If you want to go back to the ranch," she said, "I can have someone bring it to you when it's finished." She paused, almost hesitating. "Unless you want to go and get something to eat?"

"I wouldn't want to impose," he said quietly. "Especially not after you bought that suit."
