Brit nodded at their applications. She would definitely like them on her team. They had good recommendations, and they looked like they were used to the job, both of them tanned and muscled and yummy...

Shaking that thought out of her head, Brit picked out their two applications and then three more. Those ones were the ones she definitely liked and wanted on her team if she had a choice. The others she would like to talk to more.

Well. Write. Communicate. Whatever.

Hazel held on to the five applications, and let her attention start to wander a bit. Now that she was pretty sure Brit had the selection under control, Hazel started to get distracted by the rest of the expo. She'd never been to one before, after all, and she wanted to see what there was.

Brit pulled out her notebook again. If you want, you can put a sort of hold on those five. Lets others know that you were here first and you're fairly seriously considering employing them. Keeps someone else from snatching them up.

Hazel nodded.

"Alright," she said. She looked around for a moment, and then took the applications to the table at the front to put a hold on them. There was a down-payment for it, but it was negligible and she took care of it easily.

Brit waited patiently for Hazel to finish with that, her gaze straying to the brothers again. Then she shook herself and looked at Hazel.

What now? Would you like to look around some? Brit had to admit she was really curious, and wanted to do some looking around herself.

"Sure," Hazel replied. She wanted to wander around for a little bit and see what was going on. "What did you want to look at first?" She'd seen more creatures than she'd ever known about before, and some of them had caught her attention more than others.

Shall we go look at all the creatures first? Brit suggested. She figured she could always take notes and see what caught her attention, and Hazel's. And maybe even get a few new things for the Menagerie.

The thought hadn't quite occured to her yet that she could actually get a pet of her own.

Hazel nodded and gestured for Brit to lead the way, although they didn't end up getting far. Hazel had ended up distracted by a pen of nekomata kittens. She almost leaned in for a better look, but Lyra dug her claws into Hazel's shoulder with a little growl.

"Relax, sweetling," Hazel murmured, petting Lyra. "I have you. They just have the cuteness factor going for them, that's all."

Lyra just huffed slightly.

Brit did pause and coo over them a little silently. They were all very cute, and they looked playful. But Hazel already had one. So unless Brit got another for breeding...

She jotted the idea down, but she figured that wouldn't be happening right now. Maybe next expo. She did pick up a business card from the breeder, though.

"Lyra's jealous," Hazel commented as she stepped away from the nekomata breeder. "So note to self, stay away from any more felines." She glanced at her pet. "Furry little tyrant, she is."

Brit nodded and kept walking, looking around. She had to pause when she saw the fairy dragons. One breeder had three out and about, all three very well behaved and not straying very far. One of them fluttered over to investigate the two girls, butterfly wings flashing and changing color in the light. Brit grinned.

Hazel was immediately intrigued as the fairy dragon flitted around them. It was oddly beautiful, and easily pet-sized, although Hazel didn't need another pet. Still, it was fascinating.

Brit watched the fairy dragon flutter around them before darting back to its breeder. She picked up one of those cards, too. Just in case. She was definitely looking forward to seeing all the rest of the animals now.

Hazel wasn't as interested as they passed a few species that she already had on the ranch. She was used to those. She did stop completely, though, when she came across a selkie breeder.

Brit's eyes widened in awe as she looked at the pond stretching behind the breeder. At least three selkies swam around in the water, a fourth lounging in the sun, gray-green skin glistening a little still.

Okay. That was freaking awesome.

Now they had Hazel's undivided attention. She knew for a fact that there were no water-species in the Menagerie, and to be honest, it might not be a bad idea to get some. She glanced at Brit before she said anything, though, to see what the other girl thought about the selkies without Hazel's influence.

Brit looked completely fascinated, and moved a few steps forward to get a better look at the selkies. She wanted to go see them, go see how they swam and get a closer look at them. But she didn't approach that much, staying on the designated pathway.

"Isn't there a pond on the ranch?" Hazel asked as Brit stepped a bit closer to look at the selkies. "I could have sworn there was." And if there wasn't, well, that was easily-enough fixed.

Brit nodded. There was a pond. It backed on the unicorn corral, and it was fairly deep. She'd have to find out more about the selkies to find out about their space needs, but she figured they could get at least two. Which would be kinda awesome.

"If we have the space, I don't see why we can't get any selkies," Hazel said, unknowingly echoing Brit's thoughts. The Menagerie was hers now, after all, so why couldn't she start getting animals that she wanted, rather than what her grandfather would have liked?

Brit nodded. That's what she was thinking. She pulled out her pad of paper, starting to scribble.

I can get more information on their needs if you want, she offered.

Hazel nodded.

"Go ahead," she said. "Let me know what they need that the ranch may not have, and I'll make sure it's taken care of." She was a much more attentive owner than her grandfather was, clearly, and she had no intention of letting the place slide again.

Brit nodded and went to go communicate with the breeder, getting a whole sheet of specifications. She looked them over swiftly before she went to go meet the selkie laying out in the sun. The selkie looked up and sniffed her before snorting and laying on the ground again, totally relaxed.

Hazel watched, although she hung back a bit. Brit knew what she was doing; Hazel was only there as the money, for the moment. Absently, Hazel fiddled with the nametag she'd been given, proclaiming her name and her status as a ranch owner. Lyra's tails whapped her in the face a couple of times, making her grin and pet the nekomata for a bit.

Brit got all the information she needed and inclined her head to the breeder before she returned to Hazel. She was already thinking of what they'd have to do to make the pond useable for selkies.

And the breeder had hinted that selkies got along pretty well with kelpies and hippocamps. Now Brit was really curious.
