Anna got up earlier than normal the next morning, getting dressed but leaving her shoes off for the moment before she headed up to the roof, watching the sunrise. Briefly she thought she heard movement inside, then dismissed it as Altair getting up. She was pretty sure the Arab only slept once in a while, and that he mostly scowled his weariness into submission.

Iris got up a bit later than Anna, actually sleeping until the sun was actually up rather than thinking about it, and she made sure her shoes were on before climbing up to the roof to see where everybody was.

Anna was still perched there, watching everything get going. She already knew the route to Leonardo's, but she wasn't a hundred percent sure that's where they were going, so she was waiting for Ezio.

Altair was up, but he figured the girls weren't actually going anywhere so he didn't need to keep them in his sight just at the moment. Instead he looked over at Ezio, raising an eyebrow curiously.

Once Ezio was sure the girls were up and about, he went to find them.

"Come with me," he said to them both. "We need to see a friend of mine."

Iris raised an eyebrow, but glanced at Altair to make sure he was aware of the field trip.

Altair nodded and made shooing motions. He'd follow behind them anyway. Anna rolled her eyes but got to her feet, grabbing her shoes and pulling them on. Since Ezio gave her looks whenever she went around in public without shoes on.

Once the girls were dressed decently enough to go out in public, Ezio gestured for them to follow him and he led them to Leo's workshop. Iris tried to memorize the route, since it was somewhere new, and she wanted to be able to get there later to explore.

Anna perked up a little when she recognized the route, but she didn't say anything. Altair was trailing behind the group, already knowing where they were going, since Ezio had told him.

Ezio walked into the workshop without a second thought. Leo's assistants knew him by now.

"Leonardo?" he called, glancing at the girls to make sure they'd both kept up.

"Ezio!" Leonardo beamed as he walked over, hugging Ezio. Again. As usual.

Anna's eyes widened as she put two and two together and made five. "Oh god he's gay," was the first thing she said when she saw the two.

Altair just blinked.

Ezio just returned the hug, like usual. He was used to Leo being like that.

"Leo, the apprentices I mentioned yesterday," he said, gesturing to the girls.

Iris also put two and two together to get fish, and her eyes widened more than Anna's.

"Oh god it's da Vinci," she blurted, looking at her friend.

Leo blinked when he looked at the girls and then looked back at Ezio. He knew Ezio's reputation all too well.

And then he heard his name and blinked. "Yes?"

Anna wasn't quite sure what to say. She exchanged looks with Iris before her mind put up the "out on coffee break" sign and she stepped forward.

"I'm Anna."

And that's about all time she had to say because with the introduction Leo felt that, as they were Ezio's apprentices, they deserved the same familial gesture that Ezio got. And he hugged her too.

Iris just gaped like a fish for a moment or two. Holy Shit. Leonardo da Vinci. Her mind spazzed just a little before she managed to regain control of most of it.

"My name is Iris," she managed once Anna was released from the hug. Then her brain shorted out again when she was hugged in the same manner. Holy Shit. She was being hugged by Leonardo da Vinci.

Ezio couldn't help but snicker just the slightest bit at the girls. Just a little.

Leonardo stepped back after hugging the two girls. He could see Altair in the back, but Altair was giving off all the intimidating vibes he had, so Leo decided to forgo hugging him. Instead he returned to his work table, holding up to new hidden blades. "Done!"

Anna blinked as she looked at them. Hey, those looked like what Ezio and Altair had on all the time.

"You are a miracle worker, Leo," Ezio replied, inspecting the blades. Yes, exactly like his own. He wanted to make sure of that, especially since he'd noticed that Altair was missing a finger.

Iris was still a little shorted out, and she glanced from Leonardo to the blades to the rest of the workshop. She did a doubletake when she noticed a painting near the opposite wall, still obviously unfinished but clearly recognizable.

"Anna, the Mona Lisa!" she whispered, nudging her friend. Oh god, they really were living history.

Anna just had to stare for a few moments, her brain short-circuiting. Okay, yeah, she was just reminded exactly when they were. "Oh god..."

Altair looked at the blades curiously but didn't say anything. He'd noticed the design was slightly different from his own, but he didn't ask. Perhaps that's simply how it was done now.

Ezio noticed Altair examining the blades, and glanced at Leonardo.

"Ah, Leo, before I forget, this is a comrade of mine, Altair. He uses the original design I showed you," he said. That would give Leo something to focus on for the moment, he knew.

"It's not done," Iris said to Anna. "It's the Mona Lisa, and it's not done yet." She looked at her friend, a little hysterical. "Should we tell him to add eyebrows?"

"Ah." Leonardo moved over to Altair, looking him over briefly (mostly to note the differences in his weaponry and attire). "May I?"

Altair glanced at Ezio, but the younger Assassin seemed relaxed, so he slipped it off and handed it over to Leonardo. He tinkered with it for a few moments, testing it and looking at what he had attached, before he handed it back.

"There. See if that works better."

Altair slipped it back on and actually blinked when it released faster and more easily. Huh. Okay, this Leonardo person was good. He nodded his thanks.

Anna had to bite back a slightly hysterical giggle at that. "Oh this is just too good..."

Iris blinked and looked at Anna.

"The inventions," she whispered, wide-eyed. "The--the flying machine and the tank and everything else..."

"Leo is good with things like this," Ezio commented to Altair. "He created and modified mine from a sketch I had, and it has served faithfully."

"Oh god the flying machine." Anna shivered. "And... oh god how many of those designs does he have made yet?"

Altair nodded. He would have to keep that in mind, in case he needed anything else for the duration of their stay in Venice.

Leonardo smiled and moved back over to his work table, shuffling things around and stuffing a few designs away in various places where he'd eventually find them again. "You didn't mention your, ah, apprentices were female, Ezio." And now he was teasing, just a bit.

"These two are... unique," Ezio replied, not rising to the bait. "In fact, Leo, you might get along with them, when they finish gawking at your little bubble of chaos."

"I don't know," Iris replied, glancing around. "Do you think we can ask without sounding insane?"

Anna didn't get a chance to reply. Leonardo snorted and moved over to the two girls.

"I take it you have not seen an artist's workshop before."

"No, not exactly." Anna looked over at him, still a little boggled by the fact that she was talking to Leonardo da Vince.

"Ask whatever you'd like. I do not mind."

"Does the flying machine work?" Iris blurted without thinking.

Ezio blinked. How did she know about that?

Leonardo paused. "...Yes, but he had to fly over a fire to get up far enough."

Anna nodded. "Ah, yeah. Makes total sense."

Leonardo blinked. "How did you know?"

"Hot air rises," Iris replied in a matter-of-fact way. "Birds catch thermals to go higher without wasting energy, it's the same concept." She blinked when she realized she just explained basic physics to a fifteenth century painter, and she looked at Anna. "Did I really just do what I think I just did?"

"Yes. Yes I think you did." Anna watched as understanding gleamed in Leo's eyes and he looked back at the flying machine he hand hanging up in a corner thoughtfully.

"Where did you get these two, Ezio?" Leonardo looked over at his friend.
