Definitely. Us Ravens have the smallest house on Pottermore and yet we're actually doing pretty decent in the house cup race. Unlike the Puffs who have the second largest house and are dead last.

You know, I'm really just enthralled by the houses. I mean, people are complex and faceted, but on the other hand, it's sort of amazing how neatly so many people fit into houses. And I include myself in that, I'm such a textbook Puff. I really want to do some studies on people who are "in" particular houses, see what kind of themes emerge, or if the personality types can be completely debunked.
|
Really? You're enthralled by the houses? o.o
I have a friend on another avatar site who's obsessed with wands, and when I joined and was nearing chapter five where your wand chooses you she was getting like super excited over what I would have. >w>
Then once I got it and she explained in depth what my wand meant, I was in shock cause it described me to a tee. Which was kind of eerily odd, and a little creepy. owo

I'm a Ravenclaw myself. :)
And I do find the wands quite accurate to their owners if you interpret the combination of the descriptions for the wood types, core types, flexibility and length together. I enjoyed doing that when I was still active.

I am totally a textbook ravenclaw. Its totally true. Just the simple fact that I would rather read a book then watch a movie says it all.

Its on the website, there is an entry that explains the cores and woods...lemme find it.
http://www.pottermore.com/en/book1/c...nt4/wand-cores
Quote:
Unicorn
Unicorn hair generally produces the most consistent magic, and is least subject to fluctuations and blockages. Wands with unicorn cores are generally the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts. They are the most faithful of all wands, and usually remain strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether he or she was an accomplished witch or wizard.
Minor disadvantages of unicorn hair are that they do not make the most powerful wands (although the wand wood may compensate) and that they are prone to melancholy if seriously mishandled, meaning that the hair may 'die' and need replacing.
|
http://www.pottermore.com/en/book1/c...hs-flexibility
Quote:
Most wands will be in the range of between nine and fourteen inches. While I have sold extremely short wands (eight inches and under) and very long wands (over fifteen inches), these are exceptionally rare. In the latter case, a physical peculiarity demanded the excessive wand length. However, abnormally short wands usually select those in whose character something is lacking, rather than because they are physically undersized (many small witches and wizards are chosen by longer wands).
Wand flexibility or rigidity denotes the degree of adaptability and willingness to change possessed by the wand-and-owner pair - although, again, this factor ought not to be considered separately from the wand wood, core and length, nor of the owner’s life experience and style of magic, all of which will combine to make the wand in question unique.

Redwood
Wand-quality redwood is in short supply, yet constant demand, due to its reputation for bringing good fortune to its owner. As is usually the case with wandlore, the general populace have the truth back to front: redwood wands are not themselves lucky, but are strongly attracted to witches and wizards who already possess the admirable ability to fall on their feet, to make the right choice, to snatch advantage from catastrophe. The combination of such a witch or wizard with a redwood wand is always intriguing, and I generally expect to hear of exciting exploits when I send this special pairing out from my workshop.

Yeah, but this friend of mine was able to kind of predict what I'd be doing once I finished the HPPS story/book. And she was right. >w>
Which was kind of creepy, but cool...

This is what she says:
Quote:
See, while the length is important for use in taller people, it's also a mark of a bold or uhm... what's the word... a powerful personality, the kind that gets attention, good attention. He's probably a lucky individual, and with a bit of support, able to make it through just about anything thrown at them. Probably reliable, but again, that bit of support will bring them up to the heights they really should be. Only trouble is they /may/ be a little stubborn about getting that help.
[12-06-18 1:17:39 PM] o - o how's that sound?
|
Also: She was totes jealous about your wand's length. XD

No problemo. :3 I know it's been discussed before, but we never reached a consensus. So it's not a bad idea to bring it up again, since the "staff culture" has changed. (ie: Inso's edict of being a little more easy going has had time to sink in.)
EDIT: Just saying that to mean something along the lines of, "The reason we couldn't reach a consensus last time was because we had conflicting opinions, but nothing solid enough to make an official policy with." So it could still go either way, but it needs discussion to see which way it goes.

That's cool. I know right now the current policy is that announcements will only be made for user run events that have been fully planned and that that is the only time that users can have announcements made. But what you're saying about the discussion is fine. I don't mind waiting to hear what you guys decide on.
And not to make my agenda seem all important, but I don't think it would be such a bad thing to allow user announcements if they're justifiable in their means. Some users plan great things and put great effort into building up their threads so that users will come to participate with them. And I know that my little PM thread is kind of dinky now because I haven't had enough time to make it look super pretty or anything yet, but Project Mene has been around Menewsha in some form or another since early 2008 when Donna first started it, and I think that it just needs a little polishing to make it shine again and with the help of new users coming to visit and see what the thread is about, it could increase activity. I know just starting this thread, I've made more posts in a month than I've probably made all year combined*. I just want a way to let users know about the contest on a large scale is all.
*Please note that as of this post, I've made 78 posts in this thread.
