That was something that hadn't even crossed Vanessa's mind yet, really.

"I... I think..." She nibbled the inside of her lip. "I think I'm going to keep it."

Talon nodded slowly. Then, he stood up, and said, 'Well, in that case, I guess we'd better tell our families,' he said.

Vanessa groaned slightly.

"Don't remind me..." she mumbled. "I can just imagine how my parents are going to react..." One of her hands went to her stomach, feeling the slight bulge there. It wasn't noticeable, at least to anyone else, but she knew it was there. She looked at him. "Are you sure you're... okay with this? I mean... we don't really even know each other."

Talon shrugged a little, and gave her a small grin. 'Maybe not, but that's a little bit of me in there, and I want to meet it.'

Vanessa blushed slightly when he grinned at her.

"Then maybe we should work on getting to know each other," she said, grinning back a little. "I think we skipped a few steps. I mean, we've already jumped to having a baby..." She rubbed her stomach absently. "I found out yesterday, when I went to my doctor for a routine check-up. According to her, I'm ten weeks along, maybe closer to eleven."

Talon nodded, doing some mental math. 'That would probably make it mine. At this point, we could do a test to see if it's mine.'

"I'm pretty sure it is yours," Vanessa nodded. "There hasn't been anyone else... But I wouldn't object to a test, if you want to be sure."

'Well, in that case, we don't really have to,' Talon said. He sighed, and stood up. He put his hands in his pockets and fumbled with them for a bit, then said, 'Well...I might as well take you to my place. We should start telling people.'

"Back to your place?" Vanessa repeated, surprised. "I thought you would want time to yourself. I mean, to come to terms with everything, to talk to people without interruption, that kind of thing..." That, and she'd thought she would do the same thing. Heading home sounded good, although she wasn't so sure she wanted to be alone at the moment.

Talon shrugged. 'If I was alone at this moment, I'd probably drive myself crazy,' he said, with a grin. 'I won't end up believing this until I tell a few people.'

Vanessa wasn't sure how to take that.

"Do you wish I hadn't told you?" she asked cautiously.

'Oh no, this is definitely the sort of thing I should know about. I'd just start thinking too much about this,' Talon said, chuckling slightly.

"Are you sure?" Vanessa pressed. She hadn't wanted to make things difficult for him; she'd only felt that he should know about his child.

'I'm sure,' Talon said. He grinned reassuringly at her. 'Hey, Mum's been telling me I need to get my act together. Maybe now I'll finally manage it.'

Vanessa certainly hoped so, although already she'd gotten more than she'd hoped for. He hadn't taken off in the opposite direction, after all. She opened her mouth to say something else, but closed it again. There was no way he would want to go shopping with her, she was sure, not even for jeans that would fit her. The ones she was wearing were already riding a little low on her hips, since her stomach wasn't quite as flat now as it had been a few weeks ago, so she needed at least one pair of jeans more to tide her over until she was showing enough to justify real maternity clothes.

'Anyway...should we start telling people? Or do we need to sort some things out first?' Talon said.

"I think sorting things out might be best," Vanessa replied. "I mean, there are all sorts of things I need to do before I have this baby..." she trailed off, not sure how to ask how willing a partner he would be. She'd heard stories about how some men just left everything to the woman and didn't do anything to help or make things easier, and she wasn't sure how to figure out if he would be that kind of person.

'All right. Uh...' Talon checked the time. 'Wanna discuss it over lunch? I haven't had anything really substantial yet.'

Vanessa blinked, surprised, and then nodded.

"I wouldn't mind something to eat," she replied. She blushed slightly. "I haven't been able to hold much down in the mornings, so I haven't had much to eat today, either."

Talon grinned a little. 'Do you like Japanese? There's a place just up the road.'

Normally, Vanessa liked Japanese, but right at that moment the mere thought of it made her want to hurl.

"Maybe something else?" she asked tentatively, looking the faintest bit pale.

'Sorry. What would you suggest?' Talon asked.

"Somewhere... Somewhere I can get something bland," Vanessa replied, still looking a bit queasy. Clearly, the last eleven weeks hadn't been kind to her where her morning sickness was concerned, even though she hadn't realized what it was at the time.

Talon, who's teeth were fairly crooked, ran his tongue over one particular tooth as he though. 'Well...there's a deli a block down that's got chicken soup and those salty cracker things. Wanna try there?'

Vanessa nodded.

"That should be okay," she said. If nothing else, she could snack on the saltines until she felt better.
