Christine shook her head. "I just... I can't imagine that." She frowned a little, poking at pieces of his Desert Eagle.

"What? That I might actually do something useful with myself?" Cal asked as he deftly handled the pieces of the gun.

"No. I can't imagine killing things for a living." Christine made a face at him. "Or needing something this big." She poked the pieces again.

Cal shrugged again habitually.

"Explosive rounds," he said. "Need a big gun for them."

Christine opened her mouth, paused, and then shook her head.

"I'm just going to stop now while I'm still ahead," she muttered.

Cal just grinned a bit and put his gun back together.

"Still feel like coming with us?" he asked.

"Maybe. I still feel like finding a hotel room, and I don't feel like putting up with the shit Kali and Tam are gonna give me if I don't go somewhere I know someone already." Christine made a face.

"That's only two of them, though," Cal pointed out. "The third not care or something?"

"Bahiti will likely let those two fuss and scold and then she'll offer me a beer and calmly tell me that next time I pull a stunt like that she'll put a tracking device in my neck or something." Christine grinned fondly.

Cal couldn't help the snort that escaped him.

"Suddenly, I like her more," he said, smirking. "Enough so that I bet Nik is probably crushing on her already."

"She's also the one that likes explosions and beer and other such fun things." Christine grinned. "You should have seen us I think four years ago, we had the best Fourth of July, we had all the fireworks."

"I guess odds were good that at least one of them knows how to have fun," Cal commented, grinning. "Though I can't imagine having a drunk sister in your head is any fun."

"She's usually pretty careful not to get drunk, but when she does and one of the other two is out, they've described it as very similar to when she's out. Just a little less queasy and quieter for me." She grinned.

"So one gets drunk and they all do," Cal said. He shuddered a bit. "That's not right."

Christine snickered. "Bahiti's kind of a lightweight," she said, grinning. "I can drink her under the table any time. I stopped because the other two complained too much."

Cal snickered.

"Yeah, you'll do fine in New York," he said.

"As long as you guys have a decent kitchen and there's a good grocery store around, I'll be fine." Christine grinned and nudged his leg under the table. "I won't stay with you, but I will happily steal your kitchen."

"You can't just use our kitchen," Cal protested. "It's ours." He paused for a second. "You have to stay with us to use the kitchen."

Christine blinked at that. Wait a minute. He was practically telling her to stay with them.

"Well, I guess that's fair," she said after a few moments, hiding her smile. "Guess I'm stealing your couch and your kitchen, then."

"Guess so," Cal replied, glancing at her.

Christine was still grinning, pleasantly surprised. She leaned back in her chair to watch him finish with the Desert Eagle.

Deftly, Cal put the gun back together once the parts were clean, and he put it away again.

Christine shook her head and got up. "You should go get some sleep," she said quietly, stretching out. "We'll be in the car for a while tomorrow."

Cal snorted.

"We've taken long rides before," he said. He carefully didn't mention that most of those long rides didn't end well.

Christine just shook her head. "I'll take my car and follow you two back," she said. She paused for a moment. "Unless you wanted to come with and give me directions?"
