Leila had gotten into bed, sprawling out from the center of the bed, one leg out of the covers as she snored quietly. Clearly she'd just conked out as soon as she'd gotten comfortable, world-view-shattering happenstances or no.

Katherine smiled slightly when she saw her friend was asleep, and went to settle herself in the overstuffed reading chair. No sense in disturbing Leila; Katherine could rest anywhere.

Leila did actually feel better in the morning, although she still wasn't okay with everything. But she felt better. She even got a real brunch (since she'd slept in late enough to call it brunch rather than breakfast).

Although once she sat down to eat and think, she started wondering why Katherine could go around in the daytime. That went against all the legends she'd heard. And, of course, that also brought up the question of if anyone else would be out and about. Which made her just the slightest bit nervous.

Katherine managed to carefully patch up her shoulder before she got dressed the next morning, and had managed to get herself a glass full of her own breakfast by the time she found her friend.

"Morning, Lei," she said as she sipped from the glass. The glass itself was dark, to disguise its contents, but she knew Leila wasn't stupid.

Leila only grimaced when she saw the glass. "Morning. Should I be expecting anyone else to be up and about today if I go wander around?"

"Uncle, maybe," Katherine replied. "I don't know if anyone else from the family is here, but the servants around here will probably be in and out. I don't remember how many of them are on daytime duty." She sipped from the glass again, and then blinked when she realized it. "I'm sorry, I don't mean to make you uncomfortable, Lei..."

Leila shook her head. "It's fine. It's just something I have to get used to now. Give it time, and I'll get over it." Likely, anyway. Fortunately she was done eating anyway.

"Still, I'll try to be more careful about it," Katherine said. "I remembered to take a dark glass, at least." She gave Leila a hopeful look.

Leila snorted. "Yeah, that does help," she admitted. "At least I don't have to look at it." She stretched her legs out briefly.

"So, what all is there to see in this place?"

"Plenty," Katherine said, glad for the change of topic. "There's a town nearby we can visit, or we can take a trip out to any of the historic places around. We're in what used to be Wallachia, since it's Uncle's territory, so to speak. We're not far from Bucharest, either."

"Okay." Leila thought that over for a few moments, absently drumming her nails against the counter top. "Hmm. Well, maybe today we can explore the town? Just kind of look around, maybe do a bit of shopping?"

Katherine nodded.

"Sounds alright to me," she said. She smiled a bit. "Make up for the shopping we weren't able to do yesterday."

"That's what I figured. Besides, it'll give me a chance to get outside and walk around some more, too." Leila smiled. It wasn't quite her normal smile, but she didn't look so freaked out, either.

Katherine grinned back, and glanced over when Vlad drifted in. She gave Leila a 'watch this' look and made her way over.

"Morning, Uncle," she greeted brightly, glass still in her hand.

"What is it you are going to ask for, little night bird?" Vlad asked, giving Katherine a bit of a Look. He glanced at the glass in her hand. "And what is it you have for breakfast?"

"O-positive," Katherine replied, handing it to him. "Have some."

Vlad accepted the glass and took a sip, still watching her.

"What are you asking me for, little bird?"

"Uncle, I want to take Leila shopping in town, can I have some spending money?" Katherine turned up the cute-factor a bit and looked at him through her eyelashes. "Please? Just a little?" Vlad looked at her for a little while longer before sighing and handing back the glass.

"A little," he conceded. Katherine grinned and hugged him, being careful not to spill her breakfast.

"Thanks, Uncle!" she chirped. Then she went back over to Leila.

Leila was having trouble hiding her grin. Okay, yeah, that was just way too reminiscent of a spoiled niece or grandchild, and she couldn't help but be highly amused.

Even if she was dealing with vampires.

...Nope, still amusing. Still very amusing.

Katherine sat down next to Leila as Vlad continued on into the kitchen to get his own breakfast.

"And now we have money to spend in town," she said to her friend. "Maybe the equivalent of a few hundred dollars, not too much." She grinned a bit. "Uncle tends to spoil us sometimes."

"I can see that." Leila grinned. "Well, that'll certainly be enough to get lunch out and probably a few souvenirs." She paused. "Er. Lunch for me, I guess. Crap this is a lot to get used to."

"Just worry about lunch for you," Katherine replied. "I can take care of myself, if the need arises." She grinned a bit. "After all, how long have we been friends?" She'd been able to take care of her own needs just fine up until now, so she was confident she would be able to continue to do so without making Leila uncomfortable.

"This... is true. But still awkward. How many meals did you sit through and not eat anything?" Leila looked over at her as she got up, picking up her plates to take into the kitchen.

"Technically? All of them," Katherine admitted as she followed her friend. She quickly downed the last of her breakfast. "You know that black plastic cup I always use? The one I don't let you touch?" She had one cup at home in particular that she never used for anything but blood, and she always used it to keep up the appearance of having dinner with her friend. She would sit with Leila and sip from the cup, and she could claim she had dinner and not lie.

Leila snorted when that worked itself out in her head. "Clever. Very clever. Well, I guess that was better than just sitting there and not eating, er, drinking anything."

"Close enough," Katherine assured her when Leila stumbled over the words. "The word you use really doesn't matter, it's the same difference."

"Okay." Leila let out a breath. This was going to take so much getting used to. "Okay. Well, I'm going to go grab shoes and a jacket and then I'll be ready to go. And tell your uncle he needs a better heating system, your room is freaking freezing." Because she still refused to call him Vlad. That was just a little too much.

"There's a fireplace," Katherine said thoughtfully. "I'll ask one of the servants to build a fire for you." She walked with her friend back to the room. "Of course, if you like, we can give you your own room. I don't mind sharing mine, though."

"I think for now sharing is fine." Leila grabbed her jacket and purse, pulling her shoes on. "I like it apart from that, though. Did you decorate it yourself?"
