"Some of it," Katherine said as she put her own shoes on. "A lot of it was Uncle. His place and all. But I decided on some of the colors and fabrics and such."

Leila nodded. That made sense. "Alright. Well I like it. The bed is certainly comfortable." She pulled on her jacket and settled her purse over her shoulder. "Ready to go?"

"Just a second," Katherine replied, grabbing a hair tie. When she moved to pull her hair back, though, she winced and lowered her arms. "Damn... Lei, could you help me with this? My shoulder's still not what it should be."

"Yea, sure." Leila moved behind her. "What do you want me to do? A braid, or just pull it back?" She slipped a hairband onto her wrist.

"Whatever's easier," Katherine replied, tilting her head back to let Leila work.

Leila nodded and brushed through Katherine's hair briefly before braiding it and tying off the end.

"There. All done."

"Thanks, Lei," Katherine said. She slipped her phone into her pocket and grabbed her purse. "Ready when you are."

Leila nodded and headed out the door and down the stairs again.

"Alright, you're in charge here. You know what's going on."

Katherine nodded and gestured for Leila to follow her. They would have the driver drop them off in town, and pick them up again later on.

"How late do you want to stay in town?" she asked her friend. It was a legitimate question.

"Through dinner? So maybe an hour after dark?" Leila shrugged. "That should be okay, I think."

Katherine nodded.

"Fine with me," she said. "I'll let the driver know to come and get us then." She grinned when they got outside and she saw the driver waiting there with an envelope. "And look, he's got the money for us that Uncle promised."

Leila snickered. "At least your uncle doesn't seem to mind," she teased with a grin. "How often do you do this?"

"Not often," Katherine admitted. "I really am American born and bred. Uncle dotes on those of us who visit, but a lot of the family likes to keep to their own little bits of the world." She accepted the envelope from the driver and gave him instructions in careful, slightly-broken Romanian. "Although really, we only call him Uncle because it's easiest. It's a different degree of relation for all of us. For me, I think the closest thing I could call him to the truth would be more like 'grandfather'."

"But that makes him sound really old. Which I suppose he is, but Uncle sounds better anyway." Leila nodded her understanding, slipping into the back seat of the car. "Well, that sort of makes sense."

"Like I said, different degrees of relation." Katherine shrugged. "I know some people who would call him 'father' and others who would call him 'ancestor' because there are too many 'greats' to keep track of."

Leila snorted. "That's kind of scary, actually. The world is a scary place now."

"The world is no different than it was last week," Katherine replied. "You just know more about it now." She grinned and nudged her friend. "I could do the cheesy B-movie thing if it'll make you feel better." She let her fangs show a bit and gave the cliche, over-dramatic "I vant to suck your BLOOD~!" And then promptly ruined the effect by giggling.

Which, of course, made Leila start laughing. Yup, that helped.

"Oh god, I can't imagine your uncle doing that," she gasped.

"I've heard he has, once or twice," Katherine said between giggles. "Right around the time that movie was made. I never saw it for myself, though."

Leila giggled. "Oh man that would be fun," she said with a grin. "Think you can get him to do that too? Just once?"

"I can try," Katherine replied with a grin. "No promises, though."

Leila grinned, much more relaxed now, and got out when the driver stopped in town. She looked around for a few moments before she smiled.

"I like it. It's kind of quaint."

Katherine pulled an insulated thermos out of the chilled center compartment of the car, and tucked it into her purse. Then she got out to stand with Leila.

"It's a cute place," she agreed. She grinned and slipped on a pair of sunglasses.. "Come on, let's go see what there is to see."

Leila nodded and started walking, for the moment entertaining herself with simply looking at the shops and the town square and things. It looked like an old town, and she couldn't help but be very pleased with it overall.

Katherine walked with her, letting Leila dictate their pace. The town was small, but there seemed to be plenty to do, so she was nowhere near bored.
