Thor was happily downing his coffee, until he spotted Loki. With a grin, he bounced over.

"Brother!" he said cheerfully. "You should try this 'coffee'!"

"I don't think so," Loki said, eyeing the cup mistrustfully. Thor was, if at all possible, even more hyper and cheerful than normal. He was definitely not touching that coffee stuff.

Tony snickered. "And the caffeine rush has just hit," he said with a smirk.

"I blame you, Mr. Stark," Elaine said as she listened to him walk by. "I blame you for that entirely.

"Just a taste, brother," Thor wheedled, holding the cup out to Loki. "It's surprisingly good."

"I'm not surprised at all," Tony said, smirking. He'd already read the family tree, but he didn't say anything to Kae, just picking up his coffee and Steve's and heading back to the meeting room.

"Why?" Loki sounded almost petulant, staring at the to-go cup.

Steve, to his credit, didn't openly come out to watch the spectacle. Oh no, he hid back in the meeting room, so he could claim not to have known what would happen.

"You knew that would happen," he said to Tony as he accepted his coffee. "You knew he would get that way."

"Just try it!" Thor said again, pushing the cup at him. "It's wonderous!"

"Of course I did. He's never had caffeine before." Tony grinned. "You have to admit, it's amusing."

Loki sighed. He knew his brother, and he knew his brother wouldn't give up until he tried it. So he took the cup carefully and took a sip. It was... interesting, at least. Not as sweet as mead, and too warm for his tastes. So he handed the cup back.

"I think I prefer this tea."

"Then it's your loss, brother," Thor said boisterously as he took the cup back. He drained it in one shot. "I must figure out how to get some of this back home to Asgard."

"Just watch that he doesn't start throwing sparks or anything," Steve said. He wasn't going to outright admit that he was amused, but he wasn't going to tell Tony off, either. This time.

"Nah, he'll be fine," Tony said with a careless shrug. After a moment he set the envelope on the table, thinking about getting Steve's opinion on it.

Loki shrugged and took another sip of his tea, glancing through the mythology section again. It wasn't bad, for a human establishment.

Steve glanced at the envelope, and raised an eyebrow when he saw 'Kae King' written on it.

"What's in it?" he asked. He didn't have to ask if Tony had opened it. That was a given.

"A family tree," Tony said after a moment, pushing it over to Steve. It was easier than trying to explain, anyway.

Intrigued, Steve took the paper and studied it for a few moments. The longer he looked at it, the more his eyebrows went up.

"Where did this come from?" he asked, looking over the top of the paper at his friend. "And what do you plan to do about it?"

"Must be the thing Fury sent down for her yesterday," Tony said with a shrug. "And I don't plan to do anything. Why should I?"

Steve just gave Tony a Look.

"The girl is a relative of yours and you're just going to let it lie," he said. "That's not like you."

Tony shrugged. "She's distantly related. Besides, she hasn't asked for anything. What would I do, Cap? Offer to let her move in with me or something?" He snorted in derision.

"Honestly, Stark..." Steve resisted the urge to roll his eyes. "Of all people, you should know that maybe a little recognition can go a long way. Hell, you should be grateful to have cousins, however distant. I would be." Okay, that one might have been a little below the belt, but sometimes that's what it took to get Tony to listen to anything.

Tony shot him a withering look. "Alright, Steve. What would you do if you found out you had a cousin?" Because while he could figure out what she was to him technically, 'cousin' worked well enough.

"I wouldn't ignore them, that's for sure," Steve retorted. Of course, he also tended to work under the assumption that, while contact once in a while was all well and good, it was likely best not to get close to anyone 'normal.' Being one of the Avengers meant you tended to accumulate enemies quickly. But Tony didn't have that issue, in this situation: Kae already knew about SHIELD and what the Avengers did. She was already 'close.'

"I don't ignore her. I make quips with her over coffee." Tony smiled sarcastically, taking a sip of his drink. "See? She's not being ignored."

"It's not the same and you know it," Steve replied. "Look, all I'm saying is that maybe she deserves better than your smartass remarks, now that you can justify it."

"You sound like you have something in mind, Steve," Tony said, his voice quiet. "What might that be?"

Steve was quiet for a moment.

"When I was in the service, I saw a lot of good men lose limbs," he said finally. "Most of them had a hard time getting back to their normal lives after that." He tilted his head towards the main part of the library. "She seems like she's doing okay, but you can't tell me you haven't noticed when she has problems sometimes."

Tony nodded. He had seen that. It was kind of hard not to; between Elaine being unable to see, and Kae missing a leg, he was surprised the two were doing as well as they seemed to be.

Then what Steve was suggesting caught up with him, and he blinked.

"So you're suggesting I give her a leg?"

"You're the genius with the 'high tech prosthetic,'" Steve pointed out. Oh yes, he'd seen the video of the press conference where Tony had called the suit a prosthetic. "I'm suggesting you might be able to figure something out."

Tony was about to shoot that idea down when he actually paused to think about it. It wouldn't be that hard, really. He'd built the suit, and a single limb would be easier than that. It wouldn't even require an external power source.

Of course, now that he'd started thinking about how he could build it, he was going to. Just to prove he could.

Steve could practically see the gears in Tony's head turning. That was good, it meant he was puzzling out the issue. Or part of the issue, at least.

"So what's your take on Thor bringing Loki back?" he asked after a moment. Now that they had finished their argument, he wanted Tony's opinion while they still had relative privacy to discuss it.
