"We'll see what happens," Clint said.

Steve nodded and went back to his drawing, this time working on Clint, sitting on the back of the couch in the middle of a video game.

Clint grabbed a controller and started up a game, perching himself on the couch and settling in for the moment.

Steve couldn't help but smile at how cooperative Clint was being without even knowing it and worked on his drawing some more.

The first day or two in Malibu were normal and relaxing. It was the third day or so that things got a bit... weird. And for once, Elaine was pretty sure Loki had nothing at all to do with it.

Kae noticed something was off when she woke up. She blinked a few times and sat up, looking down at Bruce. And then she froze.

"What the hell?" She blinked down at Bruce, who was suddenly not male anymore for some reason.

Days like these she hated magic.

Bruce woke up when Kae spoke, and immediately noticed something wasn't right.

"Kae?" he asked, and then stopped. That definitely wasn't his voice. Slowly, he looked down at himself and froze. Definitely not right.

Elaine woke up in a similar way. When Steve wasn't up all night from nightmares and actually slept well, she was awake before he was. She jumped when she turned on her implants and saw Steve, but she wasn't able to say anything before she heard a resounding "What the hell?!" echo through the house. Okay, so apparently Steve wasn't the only one. Cautiously, she reached out and shook 'his' shoulder.

"Steve?"

"Okay. Um." Kae blinked, looking at Bruce. "Let's not panic. There has to be an explanation for this."

Steve woke up when 'he' heard the yell too, and 'he' paused when 'he' noticed 'his' weight was distributed differently. Or rather, her weight.

It wasn't in Seve's nature to swear, but he gave in to temptation just this once, letting out a violent burst of expletives he definitely learned from Tony.

Bruce took a moment to stay calm. It was far too early in the day for a Hulk-out, and Hulking out was just a bad idea with Kae so close.

"So you don't know what happened either?" s/he said.

"Okay, so my eyes are working right," Elaine commented. "Okay. We'll figure this out."

"No. Sorry," Kae said with a little shrug. "But we'll figure it out and get things back to normal soon enough."

Steve got up, glanced down at himself, grimaced, and grabbed a shirt. "Yeah. Where's Loki?"

"Let's hope so," Bruce muttered, getting up and putting a shirt on.

"I don't know, I just woke up myself," Elaine said. She watched 'him' put on a shirt and got up herself. "Let's go and see what's going on, I'm guessing at least one other person woke up in the same state."

"Okay so far?" Kae asked carefully, grabbing some clothes and pulling them on.

"I'm guessing so," Steve muttered. "Let's go see who else we can find awake." 'He' headed for the door, trying really hard not to be uncomfortable.

"The Other Guy is grumbling," Bruce said honestly, still not used to 'her' new voice, "but not upset yet. So far, so good."

Elaine nodded and pulled on an open cardigan over her tank and shorts, then headed out into the main room of the house. When she saw a blonde she vaguely recognized as Thor sitting on the couch looking distinctly uncomfortable next to a woman who was obviously Loki, she sighed.

"Oh this isn't good," she muttered. "This is not going to be pretty."

"Okay." Kae looped her arm around 'her'. "Let's go see if anyone else is up yet, shall we?"

Steve's eyes narrowed at the two Asgardians on the couch. As much as s/he would love to blame Loki, s/he figured that Loki wouldn't turn himself (now herself) into a woman as well.

"What happened?" s/he asked instead.

Bruce just nodded and accepted Kae's subtle assistance.

"We... do not know," Thor replied, 'her' voice now a rather husky alto. "In truth, I do not believe Loki had a hand in this." Because 'he' know 'his' brother's handiwork, and this didn't seem quite right.

Kae headed up to the living room with 'him', keeping a grip on 'him' both for her own comfort and to try and ensure Hulk didn't decide to start smashing.

"As much as I would like to take credit for this, I can't," Loki said, quite comfortable as a female, crossing her legs at the knee and smirking. "It is, however, endlessly amusing."

Steve sighed. "So what do we do?" she asked, eyes narrowing in frustration when her voice didn't respond quite right and shot up almost an octave.

Elaine stayed near Steve, keeping one hand on her shoulder even as she glanced over at Kae and Bruce.

"Bruce too," she commented, "okay. So it's safe to assume Clint and Tony are somewhere around here freaking out."

Tony picked that moment to storm in, already swearing a blue streak, barely pausing to glare at Loki.

"Don't accuse me, Stark," Loki said gleefully. "I didn't do it, I'm just enjoying the view."

Tony replied with some choice phrases not fit for human ears.

"Tony," Elaine said, "Sit down and be quiet so we can figure this out."

And that was about the point that Clint and Natasha came in. Clint was swearing just as violently and creatively as Tony, while Natasha looked very much like 'she' wanted to kill someone, and it was obvious why. While Clint had been made a woman, Natasha had been made a man.

"And things just got worse," Elaine muttered.

"Of course they did," Kae said evenly. "At least we didn't get changed."

"Yes, it is fortunate that someone still has their wits about them," Loki agreed with a grin. "Would you like my opinion?"

"No," Tony snarled.

"Yes," Steve said with a resigned sigh.

"Tony, I told you to be quiet and sit there," Elaine said. "Just for now. Please." Then she turned to Loki. "I know this wasn't you. It has someone else's fingerprints all over it. But that's about all I can tell."

"Indeed. Someone on this coast, used to this magic," Loki agreed, leaning back. "I cannot discern who simply from the spell, but if I felt the person using a spell I would know."

"Can you undo it?" Steve asked calmly.

"Perhaps. I will need time to study the spell." Loki turned his gaze to Elaine. "Any thoughts?"

"Well," Elaine said slowly, trying to sort through the magic she could feel, "it all feels connected, so it seems like it should all unravel at once, if we can get it to." Her brow furrowed as she tried to pick through it. "Hold on." Turning off her implants, she 'looked' again. "It seems ridiculously complex, so I'm thinking whoever it is has been at this for a while. They know what they're doing."

"Very good," Loki praised, smiling. "What else can you tell about it?" Because she'd be damned if she didn't turn this into an impromptu lesson.

Elaine frowned a bit as she concentrated.

"It feels like it's on a sort of... timer, I guess? It might wear off on its own, if it isn't broken first, but I can't tell how long."
