Steve listened to everything Coulson had to say before he went to go join Bruce on the Quinjet back to the Tower so he could go make sure Elaine was okay.

Although he was a little worried about Kae, too.

Elaine managed to keep Kae busy in the gym for a while, thankfully. She called a stop to practice when she heard the elevator open and footsteps approach.

Bruce let Steve go first; he knew better than to get in the way of Steve when he was worried about Elaine. Once Steve was out of the elevator, Bruce went to Kae.

Steve moved over to Elaine quickly, checking her over briefly before he hugged her tightly.

"You okay?" he asked quietly.

Kae relaxed a little when she saw Bruce but she didn't run over to him, instead rubbing her temples.

"Fine," Elaine said, snuggling into the hug. "Just-- worried. About Tony."

Bruce went over to Kae and gathered her into his arms without a word, just holding her.

Steve nodded. "He'll be okay," he said without confidence. He didn't know himself, after all. "Clint and Natasha will bring him back."

Kae rested against him silently, closing her eyes and shaking just a little. Now that she wasn't busy trying not to fall on her face, she was once again almost panicking about Tony.

"They're the best there is," Elaine agreed. She huddled close to Steve.

Bruce just held Kae closer, rubbing her back gently. He may not be good at actual comforting, but he knew a thing or two about calming.

Steve held her there, rubbing her back gently. He'd make sure Tony would be okay. They could get through whatever had happened.

After a few minutes, Kae matched her breathing to his, trying to stop shaking at least. But she wasn't so freaked out that things were floating.

"Let's go upstairs," Elaine said after a few moments.

Bruce let Kae take her time in calming down, just doing his best to be a solid, comforting presence.

Steve nodded and led the way upstairs, trying to give her time to settle down some.

Kae eventually relaxed, just resting against him. "I hate this," she muttered.

"I hope he's okay," Elaine murmured as she cuddled into Steve's arms. "I've never heard of anything that could put him out enough he needed to commandeer all of Jarvis before."

"I know," Bruce murmured back to her. He kept holding her. "We have to believe everything will be alright."

"We won't know what happened until they get back," Steve said quietly, rubbing her back. "But Tony's tough, I'm sure he'll come out okay."

Kae nodded silently and stayed there, though after a bit she moved back a little.

"Let's go back to your room," she suggested.

Elaine nodded and stayed close to Steve.

Bruce blinked, but nodded, leading Kae upstairs and to his room. The place was rather sparsely decorated, since he still didn't have much by way of personal items, but it still felt like 'his.'

Steve just held her, still thinking of ways to make sure that everything would turn out okay.

Kae settled down with him there, keeping one hand curled in his shirt.

It was almost another sixteen hours before Natasha, Clint, and Phil brought Tony home. Phil had called to let the others know that they were on their way back, but it was really Claudia who warned them when she mentioned that Jarvis was back online in the tower.

By that point Kae had baked a small mountain of goodies, since she'd been unable to really settle down properly, and she was waiting anxiously for them. But she did stay inside rather than go out to the landing pad.

Tony ambled in next to Coulson, almost leaning on the other man from time to time. He looked paler than normal and tired, his eyes flicking all over the place.

Bruce promptly went over to help Coulson with Tony when they came in.

"You're still in one piece," he commented quietly. "That's good."

"Sure doesn't feel like it," Tony rasped, leaning on Bruce now. He made it to a couch and practically collapsed, closing his eyes as he got used to the new level of tech-buzz in the back of his brain. "Do me a favor and keep the others from asking too many questions just yet?"

"As long as I get to ask my own questions," Bruce replied softly. "I can keep them off your back once I know what's going on." He let Tony collapse on the couch. "You look terrible, Tony. What happened?"

"There were... extenuating circumstances," Tony said with a grimace. "I've been injected with the Extremis virus." With a lazy wave, he brought up all the information on the Extremis virus, because he could now talk to computers and do that sort of thing.

Bruce's eyes widened.

"The Extremis?" he asked. He'd heard of it, sure. It was another one of those super-soldier-serum attempts. "Jesus, Tony."

Tony smiled blandly. "Deity worship is every other Wednesday, Bruce, you know that." He closed his eyes and leaned his head back against the couch. "But, hey, I'm not dead."

"But we have no idea what the Extremis could be doing to your system right now," Bruce pointed out. He had to restrain himself from trying to get Tony into the lab for testing. He helped the genius to his feet instead. "Come on. You need sleep, so let's get you to your own room."

Actually Tony did know what it was doing to his system, but he wasn't going to tell Bruce just yet. Instead he let the other genius help him to his room, and he collapsed on his bed face-down, not even bothering to shed any clothing.

"Let Kae know that I'm okay," he said quietly before Bruce left. Because knowing Kae she'd been worrying. A lot.

Bruce looked at Tony for a moment, and then nodded.

"Sure," he said. He made a mental note to come back up to check on Tony soon, and then left to go back downstairs.

Tony managed to pull a blanket over himself before he basically passed out, still kind of in information overload.

Kae was upstairs pacing the kitchen, looking at Coulson and away again approximately every five seconds.
