"Yeah. I'll be back soon." Steve smiled a little and pulled the covers up over her again before going to change and get going.

"Alright," Elaine murmured, snuggling back in. Hey, she wasn't the one used to getting up that early.

Steve smiled a little and went for his run. By the time he got back, Kae was in the kitchen, as was Tony.

"Morning," he greeted. "How are you feeling?"

"Fine." Tony shrugged. "Need more coffee." He expertly ignored the look Steve gave him.

The next few days were a bit tense around the tower, although things were steadily settling into something resembling normal. At least, they were, right up until the point was brought up that someone needed to replace Tony in battle until he was back to a hundred percent.

Tony looked pissed but didn't actually argue the point. He knew they needed someone, after all.

"There's always Spider-Man," he pointed out.

"Yeah, but we don't have his number," Kae said.

"On it." Tony's eyes unfocused in the way that meant he was going through computer stuff.

Elaine watched, a bit fascinated.

"I wonder if he knows he's muttering," she commented quietly to Kae.

"Probably not," Kae said quietly. "He never does, and he does it when he works sometimes too."

"Moreso now, though," Elaine pointed out.

Kae nodded, watching Tony for a few moments.

"Got him," Tony said. "Or his cell phone, anyway. He's over by Oscorp labs, clearly he has no taste."

Elaine rolled her eyes.

"Give me his number, I'll call him," she said.

Tony rattled off the number easily, looking over at her briefly.

"Thanks," Elaine said. She grinned. "Don't think I missed the fact that you managed to trace a phone with your number in it, rather than the other way around. That was pretty cool."

Tony just grinned. "Hey, I could be king of the world if I wanted."

"Good thing you're not, because you'd suck at it," Kae said. Tony just grinned.

Elaine snickered.

"Then it's a good thing we have a pair of legit princes in residence," she pointed out, grinning. "Now, I need to go see about calling Spider-Man, so I'll be back in a sec." With that, she went out to the balcony where it was quieter, pulled out her phone, and dialed the number.

"Hello?" Peter answered after the second ring. He didn't recognize the number, so he wasn't quite sure what to expect.

Elaine had been listening carefully for when the person on the other end picked up. She knew she would recognize Spider-Man's voice if she heard it again. So when the call was picked up, she grinned.

"Good, this is the right number, then," she said. "Since I'm pretty sure this is your personal number, I'll make sure to keep names out of it. I'm one of the people who helps look after the Avengers. One of the guys is benched for a while, so we seem to be one pair of hands short right now, and your name came up as a possible replacement. Drop by Avengers Tower when you get the chance so we can fill you in a bit more."

Peter blinked a few times at that. Okay, that was weird. He hadn't expected a call from anyone Avengers-related.

"Uh, sure," he said after a moment. "I can be there in fifteen minutes."

"Alright," Elaine replied. "Whenever you can get here, I'm sure someone will be here for you to talk to."

"Great, I'll see one of you soon." Peter hung up and put his cell phone back in his backpack before he headed for Stark Tower.

Elaine hung up the phone as well.

"Spidey in fifteen minutes or so," she said as she walked back into the main room.

"Right. I'll go wait for him." Tony got up.

"I'll go too." Steve looked at Tony, who shrugged. Steve felt like it was his job, since he was team leader, unofficially.

"Do you want either of us to go with you?" Elaine asked. "You know, standard question and all."

Steve shrugged. "If you want to see him you can," he said with a brief grin. "Otherwise, I think we'll be okay."

Elaine shrugged.

"Like I said, obligatory question," she said. She went over and gave Steve a quick kiss. "Let me know if you need anything, although I doubt you will."

Steve smiled a little and kissed her again quickly before he and Tony went upstairs and outside to wait for Spider-Man.
