Elaine followed quickly.

"I don't know what happened," she said quietly to her friend. "This must have been magic, but I don't know how." She looked around and saw the strange looks they were getting. "We must stick out like nobody's business."

"Look around," Kae muttered. "Nothing looks familiar. This looks much... older." She eyed a car as it passed. "See, that looks like late 40's."

"So either alternate dimension, or time travel," Elaine murmured. "I don't like either of those options. And we still stick out." She ran a few ideas in her head for a moment. "I can make us look like we belong, but it'll just be an illusion."

"An illusion will be good enough until we can get to a store or something," Kae muttered, feeling uneasy. "And then we can figure out everything else."

Elaine nodded and looked around briefly to get a good idea of the clothing styles, and then ducked into an alley.

"Hold still," she murmured, concentrating. The ambient magic was a bit different than she was used to, but she managed to cast an illusion over the both to make them look more normal.

"There," she said. "That should hold for a while."

"Great." Kae stood still for a few more moments, thinking. Everything looked wrong here, and she wasn't sure what they should do.

"So what now?"

"I'm not sure," Elaine said. "We need to figure out exactly what's going on." And she had a sneaking suspicion that it was her fault. Clearly, the magic that had gotten away from her hadn't been a dud. "I'm really kind of regretting not doing a bit more research on the late 40s."

"Seriously." Kae frowned. "I wonder if SHIELD exists yet? We could go to them if they do exist at this point."

"I'm not sure," Elaine said. She thought for a moment. "Maybe we should go check out the warehouse again? Maybe there was something in that room that can help us."

"Yeah, maybe. We may as well go take a look. If there's no one in there." Kae got them back inside the warehouse, making her way back towards the room.

Elaine nodded and followed, keeping an eye out for anyone walking around. When they got to the door of the room, she tested the handle.

"Locked," she said. She made a face. "I can try to magic it open, but I'm not sure how well it'll work."

"Hold on." Kae looked at the door for several moments before she knelt down in front of the handle to telekinetically jimmy it open.

"I can't believe that worked, Logan teased me about trying that for weeks."

"You just unlocked a door with your mind," Elaine said, grinning a bit. "That was kind of cool."

"Thanks." Kae moved inside and started looking around for any sign of SHIELD or, really, anything helpful.

Elaine looked around as well, looking for any sign of what might have caused them to be dropped there. Because she still wasn't sure exactly why, even if she knew the how. She was so busy looking around that she didn't hear the door opening again.

Howard just looked at the two for a moment. Okay, finding them once he'd been willing to go along with, but twice? When he knew he'd locked the door? Something definitely wasn't right here.

So he shut the door and crossed his arms over his chest, watching them to see if he could see what they were looking for.

"I don't get it, why were we dropped here?" Elaine muttered softly to Kae, not yet noticing Howard. "It's just a warehouse..." She trailed off as it finally clicked. "A warehouse on the future site of SI, this is where the Tower's going to be. I guess that makes--" She cut herself off as she turned and noticed Howard, and she bit back a curse.

"SI? Future site of SI?" Howard raised an eyebrow at the two. "I think you ladies have got some explaining to do."

Whoops. Kae glanced guiltily at Elaine.

Elaine made a bit of a face.

"I don't think the universe likes us much right now," she muttered to Kae.

"I'm waiting," Howard said, still watching them.

"I agree," Kae muttered. Then she looked at Howard. "Well, there's an explanation for this. Um. I just have to think how to word it. Really."

"I'd love to hear it," Howard replied. "Really. Starting with whatever it was your friend was talking about." He looked at them both, and Elaine squirmed a bit.

"Okay. Sure." Kae paused for a moment before she shrugged and took the plunge. "Do you think time travel is possible?"

"With enough time and the right technology, anything is possible," Howard responded promptly. He looked at them. "You don't seriously expect me to believe that you time-traveled here. The technology doesn't exist."

"Not right now it doesn't," Kae said. "Who's to say it doesn't in the future? Besides, it's still... in the testing phases." That was close enough to the truth, sort of, if you replaced technology with magic.

Howard just raised an eyebrow.

"If that were true, you'd have gone back already, rather than exposing the secret to me," he pointed out. "Yet here you stand, breaking into my warehouse with no visible way of getting home. So I'd really like the truth, if you don't mind."
