Steve nodded. "Yeah. Well, I can't say I know what you mean, but I can imagine. There are some things..." He hesitated there, then shook his head. "Nevermind. I am sorry, though. About your sight."

"Thanks," Elaine said. "I manage alright, though, as long as nobody gets it in their head to screw with me." She shook her head. "High school was a nightmare."

"I can imagine. High school was bad enough without any disabilities." Steve grimaced. High school hadn't been fun for him either.

"I'm going to go out on a limb here and say high school isn't quite the same as you remember, Steve," Elaine said with a bit of a smirk. "Not quite. I'm just kind of glad I didn't have to see high school, I only had to hear it."

"It may not be the same, but I'm sure people haven't changed that much over the years," Steve said, his voice dry. "Teenagers especially."

"I'll give you that one," Elaine conceded. "Although I'll tentatively point out that modesty has taken a nose-dive since the forties. A day didn't go by in high school were I wasn't listening to one person or another get reamed for dress code."

"I have noticed that," Steve admitted. "Woman are much less modest now. And some men." Although men's clothing really hadn't changed much, something he was thankful for.

"I'm betting it's changed enough in the last ten years that I can't give too accurate an opinion anymore," Elaine admitted.

Steve shrugged. "There's too much skin," he said, vaguely uncomfortable. "And things are too short."

"You're used to tea-length being 'short', I take it," Elaine said. "Just below the knee." She reached out and patted his arm a bit, almost missing entirely. "Poor Steve. You'll get used to it."

"I haven't yet." Steve sighed and moved her hand absently to rest on his arm. He didn't mind. "I suppose maybe..."

"Eventually," Elaine said. She couldn't help but blush slightly when he moved her hand.

Steve stayed quiet for a bit, just drinking his coffee and sitting with her. It was nice outside, so he didn't mind sitting around.

Elaine was quiet as well, sipping her coffee, when she suddenly felt a sting on the back of her left shoulder. She jumped and barely muffled a yelp, one hand going to feel the spot. There was nothing there, but she could still feel echoes of the stinging.

Steve felt her jump and shifted instantly, looking around them while moving closer to her. "What? What happened?" He started scanning the crowds, his eyes narrowed.

"It felt like something bit me," Elaine replied. She slid her hand under the neckline of her shirt and felt around on her shoulder, but there was nothing there. "I don't know what it was... I don't feel anything." But she was suddenly aware of just how close she was sitting to Steve, and the notion made her face heat up just slightly.

"How do you feel?" Steve frowned, checking her over briefly. "Does anything hurt?"

"No, I feel alright," Elaine said, rolling her shoulder a little. She felt her face heat a little bit when his hands touched her shoulders.

Steve nodded after a moment, looking her over again before he settled back in his seat, frowning. He was still curious about what had happened to her, though.

Elaine settled into her own seat again, sipping her coffee. Her blush had faded when Steve took his hands back, but she was still acutely aware that he was sitting next to her.

Steve stayed quiet, still looking around. He sent out a quick text to the others to see if anyone had seen anything happen. And then he sent a text to Thor to see if he could feel any other gods around.

Thor had to poke at his new phone for a moment before he figured out how to respond to Steve's message.

They are here somewhere.

Clint also got one of the messages, and responded quickly with, She got hit.

Steve was tempted to swear for a few moments, but he didn't give in. Instead he sighed.

"Well, they're here somewhere," he murmured to Elaine. "Thor says they're here." He didn't tell her the other bit yet. He figured that could wait a bit.

"They are?" Elaine asked. "Did he spot something? Or did one of the others?"

"Clint did." Steve paused. "He said you got hit." Which he wasn't pleased about. At all.
