Steve paused for a moment. "Well. He's a god, right? I know Thor's mentioned that he can hear when people call him intentionally. Maybe it works the same way with Cupid?"

"I don't know," Elaine said. "It might." She bit her lip a little. "It's worth a shot," she said hopefully.

Steve nodded. "Do you have any ideas how to actually get their attention?" Because he was not in the habit of summoning ancient gods and he was not about to start.

Elaine shrugged slightly.

"I have no idea," she replied. "Maybe ask Thor." She paused. "No. Ask Loki, he might be curious enough to actually answer. Thor probably doesn't know."

Steve made a face. "I'm not talking to Loki," he grumbled. "He and Tony were arguing yesterday. I don't even know what about, or what started it, but Thor had to get involved." He paused for a moment. "Although it was worth it to see Tony being told off by Kae."

Elaine couldn't quite cover a snort.

"I would have liked to have been there to hear it," she said. "What happened?"

"I'm... not sure," Steve said with a little shrug. "I heard something about teasing and books and testing a myth. And something about a horse."

Elaine let out a rather unladylike snort when she heard that.

"Oh my," she said, struggling to hold in giggles. "He didn't."

"Like I said, I don't know. But I'm sure we'll be finding out." Steve smiled then.

"But I'm sure you can see why I'm not willing to ask Loki."

"Obviously, if Tony was teasing him about the horse..." Elaine said. She resisted the urge to facepalm. "We need to break Tony of the habit of baiting immortals."

"Are we sure that's possible?" Steve asked dryly, shaking his head. Because he sure didn't think it was.

"No," Elaine replied. "But we can try." She smiled a bit. "Like a dog and a rolled-up newspaper."

Steve snorted at that and shook his head. "I think we'd need something more substantial than a rolled-up newspaper."

"Given the amount of technology Tony has, I'm sure you can find something," Elaine replied. She went quiet for a moment. "I suppose I have to get back home, then, if we're going to talk to Thor and his brother."

"It would probably be better than testing Thor's newest cell phone for any length of time." Steve smiled a little. "I'd like to give you a ride back, if you're willing."

Elaine bit her lip for a moment.

"How long is the ride?" she asked.

"A few hours," Steve said carefully. "If you want, I can call Tony and have him bring a car, or I can call Kae."

"No, a couple hours shouldn't be too bad," Elaine ventured. "I have a bag with me, though, will that be a problem?"

"No, not at all," Steve said with a little smile. "I can manage it. I'm ready to go whenever you are."

Elaine smiled.

"Alright," she said. Reaching out, she groped for a moment before she found his arm, and she gave his sleeve a tug. "Come on inside so I can get my things."

Steve blinked at the invitation but didn't say no, instead letting her lead the way inside.

"Your cousins?" he asked quietly when he caught sight of one of them. He remembered Tony saying something about that.

Elaine nodded.

"Yeah," she replied. "Their dad is my dad's younger brother." Trailing her fingers along the wall, she navigated her way to the office. "Uncle BJ, a friend of mine showed up, so I'm going to head back home." There was some shuffling in the office, and a ma emerged from within.

"You sure?" he asked. He glanced at Elaine's 'friend' and did a spectacular double-take. "Uh, Lainey? Your friend, here, do you know...?"

"Uncle BJ, I'm well aware," Elaine replied, amusement clear in her voice. "Trust me, I'm not that kind of blind."

Steve smiled nervously, staying a respectable distance back. He still wasn't used to the whole publicly famous thing, and he wasn't like Tony, who would have been sucking up the attention by now.

"It's an honor to meet you," BJ said to Steve, reaching out to shake his hand. "Benjamin Morrissey. I wish my niece had said something about being acquainted with you. It's not every day you meet a real hero."

"Slipped my mind," Elaine muttered.

Steve nodded and shook his hand, looking at the man quietly for a moment before he smiled a little. "Thank you," he said quietly. "But I'm just doing what I have to do, sir."
