"Lots of smoke, but it's coming from another part of town," Kae reported dutifully. "Tony's the only one I've seen so far, but I bet the others are heading that way." Kae was quiet for a few moments.

"Depends on where everyone was," Elaine mused. "Clint and Natasha probably needed to get their jet, and Bruce is probably with them. I have no idea where Thor is, but Steve was probably at the tower, so not far."

"Yeah. But I can't see the square from here, where the attack is, so I can't tell." Kae shrugged, watching the sky. Tony darted back and forth a few times before he vanished from sight down closer to the ground. "And now we'll have to wait for the news reports to figure out what happened. Or just head back to the Tower and demand answers later."

"Why is it always the square...?" Elaine wondered aloud. She sighed, and then pricked up again. "I hear the jet. That'll be Clint and Natasha. I almost want to go find out what's going on."

"We can get closer if you want," Kae offered, looking over at Elaine. "Granted, not in the thick of things, but closer."

"Let's try," Elaine said, nodding. She kept a hand on Kae's arm so her friend could take the lead.

Kae nodded and led them both closer, though she was careful to stay out of the range of the firing.

"There's Steve," she said quietly. "I don't see Thor yet. Dr. Banner has gone Hulk. Whoops, there goes one bad guy. Through two walls, I think."

"I can hear the Hulk," Elaine said, nodding. It was hard not to hear him. She jumped slightly when she heard the distinctive ring of something hitting Steve's shield. "Sounds busy. Is there any sort of rhyme or reason to what's going on?"

"Not that I can tell. Distinctly less gunfire than I would have thought." Kae was silent for a few moments before she hissed suddenly.

"Someone's coming our way, and I'm not sure if he's a friend or foe."

"Then I'm thinking we need to get out of here," Elaine said, backing up a bit. She couldn't go far, though; she couldn't tell where anything was.

"This way." Kae led the way away from the battle, only to let out a startled shriek when someone dropped down in front of her, grabbing Elaine first. A second minion grabbed Kae, and both started running, each jabbing a little needle into the girls' necks before continuing to a pre-appointed meeting place.

Elaine jumped and shrieked when she was grabbed by someone unfamiliar, but she didn't get the chance to do more than that before she was jabbed in the neck and passed out.

She had no idea where she was when she woke up again. That scared her more than anything. Someone had grabbed her, and taken her somewhere.

"Kae?" she called cautiously.

Kae groaned quietly when her name was called, blinking a few times, trying to work past the headache.

"I'm here," Kae said, scrambling to get to her feet. She was only partially successful; her prosthetic was gone, and she almost fell over again, feeling the beginnings of panic.

"Elaine, you okay?"

"I think so," Elaine said, although her voice was shaking. She felt around for a moment. "My purse is gone. My cane and everything. What do you see? Do you know where we are?"

"Not much, and no," Kae said quietly. "We're in a room, maybe twenty by twenty by ten? It's all made out of rock, except the is metal bars, like in a prison. There's a little window, and it's night." Kae felt a moment of panic at that. "I don't know where we are, though."

Elaine bit her lip, fighting back a more-than-slightly hysterical giggle, and patted her pockets down. She found her phone, but when she tried to use it, nothing happened. "My phone is dead," she said. "Something's wrong with it."

Kae was quiet for several moments, fighting back panic. At least there was enough light for her to see.

Then she blinked and pulled out her own phone. "Yeah. I got nothing." For a moment she wanted to chuck her phone at the wall, or maybe cry. "Crap."

Elaine felt her way to the wall and sat against it, pulling her knees to her chest. She was barely a heartbeat from freaking out herself.

"Damn. Elaine, what do we do?" Kae asked, her voice quiet and not quite hysterical. "What if they don't know? Fury gave us the day off, what if no one tries to check in? What if no one knows where we are?" She looked over at Elaine, starting to tremble just a little.

"I don't know," Elaine said. "We're not supposed to be back to work until Monday. And if our phones don't work, Tony can't track them, right?" Her voice shook more as she spoke, and her fingers gripped her arms tightly.

"I don't think so," Kae said carefully. "I mean, damn, Stark's a genius, but he needs something to work with, and we're not exactly GPS-chipped like some dogs." She took a long, shaking breath, trying to calm down. "Oh god I don't know how they'll find us."

"I don't know, either," Elaine said. She tightened herself into a ball, trembling.

It took Tony two days to find them, and he didn't even start until a full twenty-four hours after they'd been taken. He'd called Kae to get her opinion on something, and then Elaine, and then he knew something was wrong.

But he was going to personally destroy whoever had taken those two and hidden them well enough that it took Tony goddamn Stark two days to find them.

But when he and the team got there, they were already expected.

"Well, well. If it isn't the Avengers," Magneto said with a condescending smile. "I've heard about you. But this wasn't meant for you." He moved just enough to let them see that Kae and Elaine were up on top of an eight-story building, both near the edge, two minions keeping them in place.

Elaine was NOT a happy camper. After three days of being exposed to an electromagnetic field so strong she wanted to hurl and made her dizzy as hell, she was being poked and prodded with sharp things to keep her in one place on what she assumed was the roof of a building. And, judging by the wind that kept tugging at her clothes, she was unsettlingly close to the edge.

"What the hell do you want?" Tony asked, glancing between the girls and Magneto. He was rather concerned; he could tell that both girls were unbalanced, and after a moment he noticed Kae didn't have her prosthetic. Very briefly he saw red before he forced the rage back down, Steve tense and silent next to him.
