Wisely, Steve kept his mouth shut on the issue.

"Regardless," Elaine broke in as she fished around in her purse, "you are both more than welcome to stay, if you'd like to make use of the rest of the day. There are still a few more hours, at least."

Tony shrugged. "Up to the Captain," he said, with only a little sarcasm. "He is the leader after all." And it's not like Tony really had to be anywhere. He did whatever he wanted, and at the moment he didn't care if he ended up hanging out at the library or going home to fiddle with mechanical stuff.

Steve considered it for a moment before nodding.

"Sure," he said. The library was calm and quiet, after all, which was always a nice change.

Elaine grinned a bit.

"Good," she said as she finally managed to find her key to the front doors. "Then we won't have wasted digging out one of our college textbooks for you gentlemen to look through." Because yes, she'd taken Classical Mythology in college with Kae, and they had kept the textbook. It was even a real one, too; it was far too expensive to get in Braille and Kae had needed a copy, anyways, so there was no reason to try to get a digital copy.

"A textbook? Really?" Tony snorted as he followed them inside.

"Yup. We had fun with our college classes, most of the time." Kae shrugged as she made her way back to the desk to dig out the book. "We might be able to find some other resources that this library doesn't have, maybe borrow them from the central system or something."

"Kae and I were in the same literature class in college," Elaine explained as she made her way to her desk, dragging her fingers along the wall delicately to place herself. "Classical Mythology. It's really Kae's textbook, since I didn't see the point in getting it when we were both in the class, but it might be helpful."

"Anything you think might help us would be great," Steve said. Unconsciously, he kept pace with Elaine, staying just to her left.

Kae noticed that and smiled a little. "Well, let us know if you need anything else," she said. "I think we both know the textbook pretty well by now, so if you have questions, feel free to ask."

"I will," Steve promised. He couldn't speak for Tony; the genius would likely do something with his phone to get the answer before he would ask a real person.

Kae nodded and settled back behind the desk to go back to her inventory stuff. She didn't much like doing inventory, but it was easier for her to do it than Elaine, and it kept her busy. Because no one knew what would happen if she was left to her own devices for too long.

Elaine booted up her computer and let it run a few updates while she pulled a few returns out of the return tray. Checking things in and out wasn't hard for her; there was a barcode reader that did most of it for her, so all she had to do was scan the barcode for each book she was checking in and give it to Kae to put away. That is, once her computer was ready.

Finally, she was able to give the check-ins to her friend.

Kae made a pile of books to be returned to the shelves, glancing over at the guys. They seemed to be busying themselves, which was good.

Finally, during a lull almost half an hour later, Kae pulled out the envelope and opened it, looking at the single sheet of paper inside. Her eyes widened and she damn near almost dropped the paper.

"Lainey? I think I need to get home." Even her voice sounded odd, almost stifled, but not choked up. Just small.

"Kae?" Elaine asked, turning to face her friend. Kae sounded strange; not at all as confident as she usually was. "What's wrong?" Getting up, she followed the wall to her friend. "Talk to me."

"I..." Kae couldn't even admit to herself yet what the paper said, let alone tell Elaine. "Can we talk about it at home? Do you mind closing up early so we can go? I can't... not here."

Elaine barely hesitated as she nodded. The only people in the library at the moment were Tony and Steve, and even they looked like they were getting ready to head out.

"Yeah," she said. "We can leave early. Are you okay?"

"I... think so. For now." Kae grabbed her things. "I'll let those two know, and then we can get going."

"I can do it," Elaine replied. Kae still sounded shaken. "You just get your things, I can close up on my own. If I need eyes for something, I'll yell." Turning, she made her way over to the two Avengers.

Kae nodded, still to shaken to argue, and gathered up her things and Elaine's.

Tony looked up from playing with his cell phone, looking at Elaine. "What am I being accused of now?"

"Playing Angry Birds," Elaine replied with a slight grin. She could hear the noise from his cell phone, although she only mentioned the game by title just for fun. She had no idea what he was actually doing. She could still hear the faint, persistent humming that typically accompanied Tony, although she still had no clue as to its source. "I just wanted to let you both know that we decided it's probably a better idea to close up now and just reopen tomorrow morning." No sense in telling them that something upset Kae.

"We were just getting ready to go anyways," Steve commented. "Thank you for letting us stay."

"No problem," Elaine replied.

"It's not Angry Birds," Tony said. "I'm beta-testing my Sims game." He grinned, not offering any more information than that. But he did put his phone away as he got up.

"What did you do to it that it needs a beta-test?" Elaine asked. She vaguely knew about the Sims games; she'd never played one, but they had been around since before she went blind. She wasn't totally clueless.

Steve, on the other hand, was. And he made it a point not to try to figure out what Tony was doing with his little gadgets, it only served to confuse him more.

"Made it compatible for my phone and made a few custom items." And characters. And houses. And, hell, the whole neighborhood was custom. His phone was having a few problems with all the data it had to keep up with for the game.

"I can't imagine the data that eats up," Elaine commented. She was interrupted, though, when her phone went off, alerting her to the time. She had it set on weekdays to wake her up in the mornings, an alert for noon, and and an alert for three. She'd managed to have a custom ringtone set made: songs from the old gameboy color pokemon games. This particular one was the Lavender Town theme. Quickly, she pulled out her phone and reset the alarm.

Tony recognized the music before she turned it off, though, and he started laughing. Oh yes, he knew that music very well, having played those games many times. Hey, they were pretty fun. And pretty fun to cheat at.

"Most people wouldn't get it," she said. "It was the only generation I got to play, though."

"You didn't miss too much. The newest gen sucks. They made one that's literally a walking trash bag." Tony rolled his eyes. "Although there are some neat cheats for the others..."

Elaine snorted.

"How many gens are there now?" she asked. "Last I checked there was five, but now I hear about these 'twos' coming out, so is it six now or what?"

Steve just looked terribly, terribly lost.
