Just a few days till the kickoff of London 2012! Are you ready?

There's plenty to fuel the imagination, from the official website, party ideas, to innovations, like the green measures that have be implemented this time around, and the London Eye being used as a mood ring

How do you feel about the Olympics in general? Personally, I have next to no interest in sports overall, but I do love the Games, for the pageantry, and the Fraternity, for me it's more about the coming together of disparate nations in a shared spirit, rather than competition.

Hey Guys, if you want to talk about details of the opening ceremony, I'm going to ask you to put it in spoiler tags til you are reasonably sure it has had the chance to be broadcast worldwide (most areas are waiting til the evening to show it)

honestly, the only thing I like about the olympics, is the history. Yay Ancient Greece, and Mario and Sonic Olympic Wii games.

Other than that, it takes over the time slots of the few tv shows I watch which annoys me.

I've never much cared for the Olympics or any big sporting event. When the Super Bowl was played in Dallas the only thing that changed for me was the traffic x3. Grrrr...

I absolutely love opening ceremonies. That's just a thing that I find awesome. Other than that I'm a little indifferent, simply because I don't watch sport.

Yeah, the main draw for me are the opening and closing ceremonies, the rest is mostly a background experience, a nice enough one, but in the background none the less.

It's different in the winter olympics though. Somehow those sports are just cooler. Even curling is more exciting than watching people run track.

I love figure skating, always have, so that does get my attention. In the summer olympics I might watch some of the riding events, but that's not a necessity.

If I watch anything it's the gymnasts. They're impressive.

I think all it's done is be a bother personally, They opened up these "Olympic Lanes" for the athletes and "Executives to use" and it's just caused massive blocks across London. Also yesterday a reporter disguised themselves as a German tourist and asked members of the public directions to the Olympic park and 9/10 people didn't know how to get there. Oh and the security issue as well, 10,000 were promised, and they got 6,800 (i think) so the military have had to be brought in to fill the gaps, and about 30% of the G4S staff can't speak or read English. Oh and the fact that a lot of British citizens haven't been able to get tickets and they announced recently that there were around 600,000 tickets left... For me, all it's done is make me want to bang my head into the wall.... :/

There was a bit on the Daily Show last night about the hurdles that the organizers were having getting things in order before the games, such as only two of 80 security guards for the athletes showing up, and others not being concerned about knives and a handful of stabbings.
Then there's the land to air missiles being mounted on residential buildings around the event venues...

I love watching the Olympics, but only certain events.

I love running and swimming especially, but basically any sport that isn't judged is awesome. The talent of gymnasts and the like just amazes me, but I don't like how their scoring is subjective.

I missed the opening ceremony and the first day because I was in France. I'm back now, I watched a video of the opening ceremony and it looks pretty normal and not exceptionally grand. Pretty much looks like celebrations for the new year or something. I loved the Beijing 2008 Olympic ceremony though! That was amazing. I reckon they could've worked better on improving the opening ceremony and making it more interesting.

Bejing sure went big, didn't it? I think the general concensus is with that man power, and money (and maybe a sense of having something to prove) you can never top it. I guess I don't remember it that well, because I remember liking it, but not being overwhelmed by it. London's sure was goofy at times, but I liked it, and felt that somehow, in the aesthetics themeselves, more of the host nation's spirit came across. And it had nods to some of my favourite british things (corgis, Billy Elliot, T.Rex, Shakespeare, British comedy -Blackadder and Fawlty Towers-, ISAMBARD KINGDOM BRUNEL) so I got a lot out of it. This is not to diminish China, and all that it's innovations and history. It was sweeping and grand. This just had quirky, personal soul.

i didn't get all of the beginning part of the opening ceremonies.
i wanted more like the doves entering the olympic arena,
to be honest.
i did love the runner in lights going around the stadium.
and i loved the lighting of the olympic flame,
though i like it to be high so most of London can see the fire burning.
but, that's just my opinion.
*tosses in my two cents*

Yeah I liked the theme, I mean London is a city with centuries of history and its very nice to see that the history and past can still be admired and brought back to life.

Hummy I totally agree with you. I wish they included a bit of ancient Greece history too, as that is where the Olympics first originated from. I love the idea of the doves! And the fire.

I personally prefered Bejing ( yes I'm as patriotic as a brick, you can move along now, pip pip) some things in London were good and other things I was like No!! People won't get that! Like the eastenders theme at the beginning, and where was the Olympic song (if you haven't heard it go on over to the music section and you'll see my thread about it) I stayed up watching the countries parade around the outside waiting for the song and it never turned up, I wasn't very happy with Mr Boyle at that point :/ It better be inthe closing ceremony because if not im having words with people... Mark my words... Mark them!!

yeah, i didn't get a lot, GG♥.
i sort of drifted off a bit,
like in history classes.
*ish not a history buff*
but, if it had some of Greese's history it might of been more known.
i just was a little lost and our announcers were SOOOO boring.
*yawns*
they didn't make me feel like i understood it any better.
b~b~but what i really want, what i reallyreally want.....
i'm excited to see the closing ceremonies with the spice girls reunion.

Love your Olympian inspired avatar Cardinal Biggles! (it is, right?) :)
I really like the spirit of the Olympics, I always like the opening ceremonies. The sports have grown on me. I prefer watching sports that are judged for example the Gymnastics and Weightlifting, but also water themed ones like Diving and Swimming.
I'm watching the Synchronized Diving right now!

Its actually amazing and so was the opening ceremony I was really worried that britian would have a terrible opening ceremony, i mean we're a small place witha small popularion inplaces like beijing for example they had more people to chose from toahve in their performance but GB did something completely different.

I still want to punch everyone in the face who said "It was too British" Hello, this is Britian.

And people who were like "I don't get it" there's not much to get really :'D LOL And if parts of it were only really recogniseable to the british - Good. :D everyone else can learn a bit of culture. And british soaps like eastenders are a big part of our culture.

Although Paul Mcartney? (sp) at the end? D: worst singing I've ever heard he was only there because he's a piece of british history, but oh gosh that was awful!! *cringe*

next year Rio has it and I can already imagin what their opening ceremony will look like.

also I think we should have had a GIANT scone and cream and jam as a centre piece that had explosives in it so near the end it exploaded and the audience are covered in crumbs cream and jam!

in defense of people, like me, who didn't get it.
it was about Britain's history, which i know very little of,
and OUR announcers were very boring about explaining it.
they were history lesson like, in my opinion.
i meant no disrespect and truly do not want to be punched,
just because i didn't get it.

Fair enough, our presenters explained a couple of things to us too, incase we didn't fully understand everything, but most of it made sence.

Is there anything I can clarify for you? I missed the first half an hour. I still can't believe the queen was acting in it with JAMES BOND!! O_O this never happens, its afirst the Queen, the REAL QUEEN has acted in TV.

Personally, the only thing about the Olympics that interests me are the opening ceremonies.
I'm not a very big sports fan, the only thing remotely close to sports that I watch weekly is WWE Wrestling.

But I have a ton of respect for all the people who make it there.
