Ooh okay. o.o Sounds like the name of an evil bad guy.
HoH?
Ah I hate when people compare kids. Every kid is good at something.

Sorry for the delay - mom kicked me off the computer.
Yeah, it gets weird looks sometimes.
And he's not really evil, he just loves dragging things out and stringing us along.
Hoh - Hard of Hearing Sorry, I'm too lazy to type it out now.
Yeah, I've met the kid that she watches and sure he's not as smart as Luke, but he's smart in his own way and he's so stinking cute!!

No problem ^^ I got distracted about that time anyways.
I really don't know why... though I'm sure I would be staring at the hands. Makes it way easier to avoid eye contact...
It's okay, I'm learning abbreviations >w<
Really? What makes her think he's hard of hearing? Sounds more like "selective hearing"... most kids have it

To be honest, staring at the hands is rude - you are supposed to make eye contact, because it's not just the hands, but it's the whole body. So yeah... Avoiding eye contact in Deaf Culture is considered way rude.
That's what I told her, he has selective hearing... That's all. He's not HoH - I've been around him a bit, and he listens to me just fine.

Really? Then how do you read the signing? o.o
That would be a huge problem for me because I can't do eye contact... horrified of it most of the time.
Haha... well he probably doesn't like her if he ignores her...

You look at their face, you can see signing too. Never been a problem for me at all.
Well, I am just telling you how it's supposed to be in the culture, what is expected.
You learn... like the fact that I may be hearing, but I do not have a personal bubble anymore because of Deaf Culture.
I have people who act like it's just weird - but in deaf culture you can't have a bubble, they're so much more touchy feely - hugs, touching, not in weird ways - it's hard to explain to someone who's not in the culture... but having a bubble is not a good thing. You get used to meeting someone, and then the next time you meet them, they hug you. Or people you just met hug you. Or getting up close, closer than I know my hearing friends would be comfortable with.
Also with interpreters, you talk to the deaf person, and don't look at the interpreter. They see that as rude too. Because it's like you're not acknowledging them, you're only acknowledging the interpreter. If that makes sense.
Also if you ever see anyone signing in public, do not stare. That is rude as well.
She can be controlling at times. Always telling him "Don't do this. Don't do that." instead of finding a way to be like "Do this instead." >.<

Eep! o.o I like my personal bubble... touch... causes a sort of a "ghost effect" for me which I feel their hand for hours after and it's really freaky...
I can understand that, I would be bothered by that too because I'd feel sort of "pushed aside".
Ah yeah I don't really "stare" so much as just glance off and on. Partly because I'm curious what they're saying.
Oh a bossy lady... yeah he's just ignoring her... my niece listens to me 90% of the time because I don't boss her around constantly.

I used to not like it - but I'm to the point now that I do not mind it.... I jump still if someone comes up behind me and I don't hear them, but that's only because I was scared, not because of them sneaking up on me. If that makes sense... I'm just telling you this, not that you need to know it. There are quite a few things that are different - so so different - than hearing culture.
No, don't even do that. That is considered rude. And eavesdropping, not something you want to do.
Yeah, she needs to let him do what he wants and not act like nothing he does is wrong. If that makes sense?

Well you never know when you need to know something. Knowing they don't really have a personal bubble is a good thing to know @ [email protected]
Well my goal isn't to understand them per se. Partly that I have taken linguistic anthropology so it's interesting to see how their language changes things. Plus I've had to do that for years because I have a really hard time learning proper body language so I have to "listen/watch" in order to learn because it didn't come natural to me at all...
Well if he does wrong then yes he should be told do "this" like if he stole or something, but odds are he hasn't. I know especially with naps people love to force children to take naps. I don't. I actually have managed to get her to go take a nap without my niece pouting at all because I made it fun instead of a command. I let her flail around in the middle of the bed and have fun after which she was really tired and eventually nodded off at her own pace.
