Well, I get that it's something that it's something that comes natural to you, but they find that if they're not in a setting with a lot of people signing, it's considered rude to them. It's like someone listening to a verbal conversation over your shoulder. If that makes any sense?
They don't know that you don't know that you don't know. It's just that it's not something that's considered proper in their culture. Just saying that.
It's like she tells him to sit down, and he sits down on the ground, because he was standing up, and then she gets on his case for sitting on the floor. >.< Really. Talk about sending mixed messages! D:

Well it's understandable. It's just like any other culture gap after all.
That's true... but I find most verbal conversations are loud enough that I can't really ignore them either... and same with movement. I dislike movement out of the corner of my eyes too... (yeah I have a ton of issues I know)
Yeah I know, I'm still working on what's "proper" in a speaking culture at the moment so I'm pretty used to awkward moments...
Wait what? No wonder he doesn't listen. That's even worse... telling him to do something and then getting mad at him for listening? Basically what the child is probably thinking is "She's dumb, she punishes me for following the rules so I wont follow her rules"... end result, he's pretty smart because if listening and not listening both give the same punishment... he's just going to do what is more fun.
That's like "Good kitty, have a bath" it never ends well...

Which I can get - I don't handle parties for that reason. I do not like noise at all!
Exactly! I was there when she was doing it and I was like, instead of her getting mad at him as I pat the chair "Can you sit down over here with me?" Instead of confusing him. >.<

Yeah the only thing I'll play loudly is very certain music or if I'm alone I'll play music a bit louder.
And anything on a vinyl record
That's cute and simple. Kids really like when you say "With me" I've noticed, so I find involving yourself in what you do and require of them it puts you at their level. Then when you make a demand they know you actually meat it.

Oh, I can stand music if I have control over the volume, it's loud places with people talking too that I don't like.
Yeah, I try to get myself down to their level, and make it easier for them to get. And try to not send them mixed messages.

Agreed... I don't like blasted music o.o
Yeah I know so many parents who say "I'm superior to my child, why should I put myself at their level when I'm the adult and they are not?"
I simply answer "He's picking your retirement home later"
But in all seriousness... I see a major intelligence jump when people are a peer instead of a superior. Sure they have to know your word is final, but if you're their friend they will look up to you later in life.
Like for example, as a kid I was raised with this "I'm superior" mindset. I wont go to my parents for advice, I wont go to them for questions, and I keep almost everything about my life private from them. If they had treated me like a friend instead of a child that only needed disciplined when needed I would have been far more willing to bring up problems I was having in school and such.
On the other side, if a parent says "Don't do drugs" who are they going to listen to during the rebellious stage? A peer? Or a superior?

Poet: Gah! Sorry, I started spacing out yesterday and totally forgot to respond. xD
Yeah, you don't have to act like the bigger person for them to know that your word is final - well, you do, but not in a way that makes them not like you. Just don't send them mixed messages.
Ling: O.M.G. I LOOOOVE your avatar!!
Demi: I do hope that you are feeling better!

Haha all good :)
That's true. I mean you have to be firm at times and gentle at times. Of course you wont be gentle the whole time cause they wont be an angel, but they wont be rowdy all the time so you can be gentle sometimes. Really it's just a matter of how well your kid behaves, and they will slowly come to find they like how you treat them when they behave.
So how are you today hope? ^^
