It just depends. Pencil skirts are medium length but they ar more well fitted rather then has folds. It has wrinkles instead of folds.

I see. I never knew that. Are those the ones that people often can't bend with?

To me I don't make my clothes like such.
Just well fitted. Not too tight not to loose.

I see. I've not tried loose fitting cloths just yet. Mostly tight fit besides a bit of extra fluff in a dress.

I suck at most clothing so I just do whatever
orders I get.

Meh. I try. But I think I'm more fit for sketches and not pixel art.

Well I thought the same thing really, but I have found that working on much smaller bases helps me improve a lot more than the larger bases do, because you have less room to work with.

I'd likely struggle pretty heavily with a doll that size let alone mene sized.

Small bases are too small for me.

Yeah. And bigger bases give me more room to work.

Medium bases help as well. Just gradually up the
size of the base you work on.

I've read a shading tutorial that explained it and I just can't get the shading right.
It always looks off to me and looks not real at all.

Ah yeah I have that problem a lot... i think the primary thing for me is the folds. Like at the arm and hip area as well as a few other places. I know mark crilley did a good drawing tutorial on how clothing works at one point.

I can do folds but the shading to me is off.
And I don't know if its the palette or what.

Hmm I don't know, have you tried looking up pictures of real shirts with shading?

It's understandable to be nervous.
I was too. But you eventually learn to basics the more you practice.
Some of the WIP's i've done look great. I seem to only be good with four color palette.
But usually you should have six or seven.
