I'm pretty sure I posted this same exact thread topic a few years ago, but I don't remember. BUT, I've been feeling nostalgic lately, and today it just kinda washed over me full force.

I'm a junior in college, and things are getting pretty tough now, so I've been missing being younger lately.

I don't know how I did it, but I started listening to Hilary Duff songs this afternoon and have been playing them for awhile now. When I was around 13-14 I adored Hilary Duff, and it makes me feel so happy hearing something from when everything was so much easier.

I have other nostalgic things, too, but what are some things that bring out the nostalgia in your heart?

Nostalgia's been coming at me in all sorts of ways lately. I'm a Junior in college as well, we might just be in the same sinking ship x3. Now I can't say I ever liked Hillary Duff (unfortunately did have a Britney Spears CD though) xD.

I started playing Pokemon Blue and Emerald a few months back. It felt really nice to go through the motions again. In retrospect I've started to realize nostalgia hits hard the most when I think about things in the past that I feel like I might have lost. Then I really not too many of them are totally lost. I save my pennies and my time and find room for my favorite video games, new and old. If I'm lucky I can cut out the occasional weekend to just lay about in total laziness (plus I just had five days of nothing, after over a year of 40-50 hours of work a week and 18 hours of school).

I guess what I've realized is it's not so bad when I find enough time to unwind and a little money to help. I'm still basically doing the same things I was doing years ago in one shape or another (plus a few newer hobbies), and that's something I feel really fortunate to have.

Ah, man. Our generation was/is so obsessed with Pokemon. I know so many people that still adore it, but I was never allowed to watch it...or Power Rangers...so I didn't fall into that one. If you're wondering, my dad hated those shows and thought they'd screw up my brain, so that's how that happened. XD

I have rewatched the Disney movies several times over the last year, and that's kinda been my lazy Saturday night thing. Pop in an old cartoon and watch it while I'm doing some other thing. Over ten years later and I still laugh my ass off at some of the jokes in those movies.

Maybe your father had the right of it, I'm still rather interested and the why stays unexplained. Pokemon's basically one huge animal cruelty case waiting to happen and yet I have no moral objects to it. Because it's a ten year old x3.

I never really watched that many Disney movies. I'll trade you Pokemon for Disney and we'll both round out of childhoods. When I was ten I was watching The Wire. Not exactly your most normal childhood xD.

I get the same way with Backstreet Boys or NSync hahaha
Oddly enough the Thong Song, too.
Harry Potter stuff, my mom and I were super into it. tShirts and notebooks and everything.

@Nonsense: Haha. It's not the weirdest childhood I've ever heard of, either, though.

I don't blame you for not watching Disney. Most of those were chick flicks. I mean, seriously, the only good boy movie they had in there was Peter Pan. Everything else was pink fluffy cats and princesses.

@Viki: Ahhhhh. Backstreet Boys! <3 I still love some of their songs to death.

Viki - I remember Nsync, Backstreet Boys, and 98 Degrees. All those boy bands xD.

ElysiumFate - I have nothing wrong with chick flicks, simply poorly made movies. Gilmore Girls is one of my favorite shows, I want to re-watch it after I finish Boardwalk Empire.

I actually completely agree with you there--you took the words right out of my mouth. I don't like most chick flicks simply because they're awful movies, but the good ones are good because they're just a good movie in general.

Usually, I feel nostalgic about my old photographs as a kid, the letters I received and kept for years with those blotting letters, some accessories, my school papers from grade school and high school.

I'm not sure if this counts, but I haven't had romantic feelings for any person in about 6 years, I kind of miss that feeling of 'falling in love'.

Awh. That's a good one, Chen. I get nostalgic about love when I watch rom coms, so I kinda can't watch 'em anymore.

I live on the opposite side of the world from where I grew up, so occasionally I become gripped with nostalgia in unexpected ways. The other day I was walking along a street and passed a school that had a bunch of bushes/trees that smelled exactly like the kinds that grew in my grandma's yard where I used to play.

This week I started watching a YouTube series called "Game Grumps" that reminds me of how my friends used to play and joke about video games. If there's one thing that's incredibly different about Japanese and American culture, it's sense of humor.

I love watching Spongebob. I'll watch it any time to relax, but I especially like it when I'm feeling a bit too stressed by adult-type responsibilities and problems. Since the show's still on, there are episodes I've never seen before, but it still offers that childhood familiarity and simpleness.

I've also been enjoying Adventure Time lately. That definitely wasn't on when I was a kid, but it offers its own sort of imagined nostalgia. Basically, I like children's cartoons when I get stressed.

What a time to reply to this thread! I'm cleaning my room and getting rid of my old stuff. But there are just some things I can never throw away! I get a lot of souvenirs from my friends who are overseas but its taking up a lot of space in my drawers so... some of them would just have to go >.<

I took out old postcards of when we did not have email. I would send some to penpals overseas and they'd write to me back. Reminds me of how I lost contact with almost all of them >.< I doubt they would remember me now ^^"

I also have a lot of old photographs of people who meant a lot to me. People who have since passed away. I keep their photographs separately. The ones that get to me most are those of my nanny of whom raised me until I was probably a teenager and of a close university friend who was one of my best friends and even though Iv hated uni life, he made it a little better... Makes me cry thinking about the times we spent toigether...

I have a lot of movie stubs too. Haha! I throw most away now since the ink has faded...

And purikura. Those Japanese print stickers! I keep them and remember how I am now too old to do that anymore XD

Older movies and songs give me nostalgia.

I can't think of anything right off-hand.
But I hate the feeling of nostalgia.
It's just a reminder of something I can't get back.

Sometimes I get the urge to play my Pokemon Yellow, I did earlier this year. I started a new game and got all the way to Fushia City. For some of it I even had to use my old gameboy color while I awaited delivery of a new charger from Amazon for my SP as I could not find mine(I think I must have tossed it one time I was doing some organizing not realizing what it was).
I will always think the first two generations the best, it's certainly the best in the anime. I stopped watching the anime when Hoenn came out, it killed it for me. Although I play all the games.

Not long ago I wanted to watch an old Jhoto episode I used to like but I could not find it online. XP
(anyone know any good places to stream Pokemon?)

I also bought the DVD a month or so ago too of an old favorite film, Babe. It was only like $5 at Target so I decided what the hell and the next day I watched it with my mom (whom I had no idea loved it too). I used to ADORE that film as a child.

If I ever become a mother I will be the best when it comes to taking my kids to see children's movies. I just love 'em so much. Little will my kid know I'm not just doing it for them.

When I was growing up I noticed that many adults or people older than me 'outgrew' animated and children's movies. Now that I'm grown up, I still don't get it, because it hasn't happened to me. Although I suppose these days I'm a bit more selective of which ones I enjoy but still love them in general.

Oh hell YES!
I am so going to expose my children to the classic children's movies of my own childhood not the crap they've got now.

For the most parts I still love the same movies/shows I did when I was a kid. I'm totally going to make sure my kids see them if I do have kids.

I also never grew out of kids movies. I mean, yeah, I like adult movies now, too, but kids movies are just so much more fun.

I never really grew out of kid shows, or movies...though the kid shows I tend to still catch every now and then are just replays from when I was a kid.

I see all of the current kids movies at some point or another, but not the t.v. shows. I hate this modern kid's television. Even the new Spongebob stuff is garbage.

I like early Sponge Bob, but I can't say that I've seen any recent episodes. But definitely a few seasons in, things got just plain weird. There were a lot of strange episodes with random and kind of creepy stuff happening.

I think there are some good shows on now, but also some bad ones. Same with any generation, really. If you go back and rewatch all of your old favorites as a child, you'll probably discover that a lot of them were really stupid. XD Some are timeless and well thought out despite the target audience, but then there's just a lot of average shows that filled the gaps.
