So you'll hear plenty of people confess that, as a child, they thought teachers lived at school. And of course, many of us believed in things like Santa, the Easter Bunny, boogie men, and all other sorts of outlandish fictional characters.
But for every run-of-the-mill silly belief you had, you had a few that were just totally out there. Maybe you thought goldfish would eat your fingers off if you stuck your finger into their bowl or maybe you thought eating too many blueberries would turn you blue.
You had these crazy thoughts, so now it's time to share them with your fellow Menewshans! It'll be a good laugh for us all.
I'll start! I thought DNA was a single organ in the body. Like I just imagined the big twisty ladder existed somewhere in your torso.

My mom taught me that lady bugs bite, so I was terrified of them until I was 13 ;)

Oh wow! I will tell you, though, they'll pee on you. Well, maybe it's not pee, it might be some sort of defense mechanism. But either way, they expel some sort of liquid that is just foul smelling. We used to have a poorly-sealed room that would get infested with lady bugs* every year, and sometimes one would land on my hand and just freakin' pee on me. >:(
* To be fair, they're not actual lady bugs. They're some sort of asian beetle that looks just like a lady bug, except it's a bit larger and is orange instead of red. But they get mixed up a lot and I don't remember their proper name so, meh.

In Thailand, instead of the boogeyman, our parents would scare us to sleep with Tokay geckos and told us that if we didn't, they'd come to eat us. They are huge and they would make these incredibly loud sounds at night. We lived in the jungles and they would just be everywhere. @ [email protected]
You CANNOT sleep with one of these things on your window let alone being told they're going to eat you if you don't sleep.

I believed the moon and the sun would follow our car around, especially on the express way.
My parents always told me if I misbehaved or if I stayed up late instead of going to bed that the
llorona, weeping lady was going to come for me and take me away. Not only that but I also got
told of the Chupacabra, duendes which are evil gnomes, and a lot of other urban legends which seemed real at the time.
Around 7 or 8 I convinced myself that these guys are probably too busy to come and drag me
somewhere scary because I probably wasn't the most misbehaved kid.

How are you supposed to fall asleep when you're scared?! That's some weird logic your parents have there.

Awwwww.
Yeah, I tried to reason with my fears too. I believed in monsters, but at the same time I knew they weren't real. But I figured that if there were monsters, there had to be one big ultra monster. That idea scared me, so I decided that this ultra monster had to run around the world 15 times before he could come get me. I figured that made me safe since I thought I'd be old enough to not believe in monsters anymore by the time he finished.

Lol. When I was little I thought that a girl got pregnant by a little button inside of her tummy. So when that got pushed a baby was made.
I also believed that as long as there was a source of light- (Be it the flashing 12 on my VCR) A monster couldn't get me. All I had to do was look at the light and the monsters would go away.

Because I never really believed in Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny I had to make all that up somewhere. I thought you had to pay for watching paid programming (informationals).

When I was younger my cousin told me when we were at a lake in a motorboat that if I put my hands out of the boat the plants floating in the lake would grab my hand and drag me under to the bottom.
I also thought that toll dolls would give me a wish if I rubbed their plastic jewel.. o_o;

LOL omg I used to have ladybugs invade my room all the time! There are still pee stains on my ceiling.
Anywho, when I was kid, someone told me that Pokemon lived in China, and I believed them. I even tried the whole digging my way to China deal. Come to think of it, I dug a lot of holes when I was little... I was also completely hung up on the idea that there were a bunch of dinosaur bones in my backyard. Luckily it wasn't very pretty to begin with because I spent several hours just digging.

I believed my dad when he told me that eating too much soy sauce would turn your skin black back in kindergarten, so for the longest time I didn't want to eat anything that had soy sauce in it. It wasn't until I was in like high school or something until I found out that that wasn't true. Gee, thanks for not letting me being able to enjoy eating dumplings due to having to dip them in soy sauce in order to taste good for so many years, dad. =___=

The only belief I can recall was that Virgin Mary was God's wife. My mom was heavily into Christianity and Church when I was a child and even had me read a kid's bible.

Ha, I was certain there were dinosaur bones in my backyard too! One time my mom bought this little excavation kit with tiny plastic dinosaur bones and hid them in my sandbox for me to find. I was so shocked and confused.
I also thought my house had secret passageways. I'd go around knocking on the walls trying to hear a different sound (I had no clue what sort of sound I was looking for, I just had seen it on TV ). We didn't even live in an old house or anything like that, we lived in a small trailer where the internal walls were about three inches thick and every inch of space was well accounted for. There wasn't exactly room for a secret area.

I thought that the holes to wear earings grew in your ears. It was because when I asked a girl at school how she had the holes for ear rings she said that they had grown in when she was a baby. Of course I then went home and asked my mom when my holes would grow in . My parents still bug me about it.
Also when I was little I thought the world use to be in black and white because all the old shows were black and white. I was a weird child.

I once convinced myself I'd be able to launch myself to space in a giant bubble. I don't even remember how that idea came about.
I also thought the Gushers commercials were literal before the first time I tried the things. I was really disappointed when I didn't have a giant fruit head for the next hour.

I used to not believe in fiction.
Even now, I think the line between fiction and reality is a lot blurrier than we like to think, but...I believed in cartoon physics, just to name one of the more extreme examples I used to believe.
A few of my childhood injuries came from me trying to run between elevated platforms by not letting myself notice when I left the first.

I've read that diamonds and coal are practically the same-- diamonds are coals under high pressure after a long time, right? And the further down the earth you are, the more pressure there is. Thus, if I dig a hole deep enough in our backyard, I could grow a diamond and sell it when I'm grown up! (2 feet is deep, right?) I'm pretty sure there are still undiscovered coal to this day in my childhood house. Hey, I believed in SCIENCE as a kid! I thought I was pretty smart to put two and two together <<;
I remember my dad saying that the tooth fairy pays more for teeth that were taken out at home instead of at the dentist, so I should just keep wiggling my loose tooth until it was time to pry them out in front of a mirror. Dear sweet nostalgia, that SHOULD have traumatized me-- but I had too much fun learning about pain tolerance and thresholds and there was money involved so I was a happy child. I sometimes wonder if that stunt would have been allowed in this day and age XD
I got two or three of my baby teeth out at home, so it must have been a lot of money (for a child) indeed. I sadly don't know what I did with the money.

My big brother tricked into believing that we had a Xenomorph up in the attic. He had this sound clip of rattling chains that he said was the sound of it trying to break out. I feel really foolish now for believing him. -_-
I also believed that playing music when I went to bed would keep monsters from getting me, so I played music when I slept up until I was about 16. Now it's hard for me to sleep with sound in my room because I've gotten used to sleeping in the quiet.

When I was little I use to believe toys and pictures came to life as we slept. I thought they could see me when I changed and slept, really scared me as a child so I never hung up pictures or had toys. I'm not sure how I started to believe that, I just know cause of that. I'm not one for decor.
When I also little, believed my house was haunted and that a night light would keep all the evil spirits in the dark. I'm so use to night lights, I still sleep with one in my room. :)

I really didn't have any strange beliefs aside from things I thought were sins because of my school's teachings.
Like playing with my food.
Being a kid in general.
I really did believe a monster would get me when I had to go pee during the night.
I'd have to wake my mom or dad and get them to take me.
